A month later, I started my new job at the client company of Original Company, attending an industry launch event as the product manager.
Before I even entered the venue, I ran into some familiar faces—Wu Zhifeng and Zhang Yuanliang from Original Company.
"Well, if it isn't Li Siyue?" Zhang Yuanliang raised his eyebrows dramatically. "I heard you went to a competing company?"
I smiled and remained silent.
"The speed of outsourcing plagiarism is impressive; they can churn out a version in just two weeks," Wu Zhifeng boasted.
"Your user research is way too slow," I replied.
Zhang Yuanliang chimed in, "Exactly! Our efficiency has improved significantly. We don't even need to copy ourselves; we just hire an outsourcing team."
I noticed their weary expressions.
Zhang Yuanliang's suit looked wrinkled, and Wu Zhifeng had darker bags under his eyes than when I left.
"Li Siyue, if you're smart, you won't go in there. You won't last long at your new company," Zhang Yuanliang blocked the entrance to the venue.
I maintained my smile and waited quietly.
Sure enough, the Investor Representative soon appeared in the hallway.
Seeing this scene, their expressions were complicated.
"What product are you planning to launch today?" the Investor Representative asked me as they approached.
"A truly user-centered product," I replied with a smile.
Zhang Yuanliang and Wu Zhifeng's expressions instantly darkened.
"I look forward to your presentation," the Investor Representative said, gently nodding and ignoring the obstruction from Wu Zhifeng and Zhang Yuanliang.
I calmly walked past them towards the podium.
"How can you let her take the stage!" Wu Zhifeng shouted from behind.
"Because she deserves it," the Investor Representative said coolly.
Standing on stage, I looked out at my colleagues from the Original Company, who were staring in shock.
Wu Zhifeng and Zhang Yuanliang were frozen in place, clearly taken aback by this moment.
"Li Siyue has actually become the product lead for a competing company?" someone whispered.
I adjusted the microphone and scanned the audience.
"Good afternoon, everyone. I am the newly appointed product lead for the unicorn company T Company."
"Today, I will be showcasing a product that truly addresses user pain points."
The Investor Representative sat in the front row, his eyes sparkling with approval.
Wu Zhifeng and Zhang Yuanliang's faces grew increasingly grim.
"Before we begin," I paused.
"Let's first take a look at how users are evaluating similar products currently on the market."
I opened the PowerPoint presentation. "There is a company whose product has serious architectural flaws."
Technical expert Zhang Gong stood up, pointing to the data on the screen. "The backend architecture of this product is completely unreasonable, with numerous security vulnerabilities."
I continued, "What’s even more interesting is that 90% of this company's product was developed by outsourced teams. And..."
I paused for effect. "A large amount of the code has been plagiarized from other companies."
A wave of murmurs swept through the audience.
"Li Siyue! What are you talking about?" Wu Zhifeng finally couldn't hold back and stood up.
"Talking nonsense?" I laughed. "Then may I ask, how does your company plan its product development?"
Zhang Yuanliang stammered, "We have complete..."
"Complete what? Outsourcing documents?" I interrupted him.
Wu Zhifeng hurriedly tried to smooth things over. "This question should be answered by Product Director Zhang Yuanliang."
Pushed to the forefront, Zhang Yuanliang struggled to articulate a single coherent sentence.
"Let me tell everyone," I said as I opened another document.
"This is the complete investigation report, including all evidence of plagiarism, outsourcing contracts, and... some interesting financial transaction records."
Wu Zhifeng's face turned pale.
"As professionals in the industry, we all know that product quality and user experience are fundamental," I surveyed the room. "Yet some individuals, in their pursuit of quick profits, are willing to trample on these principles."
I took out a lawyer's letter. "We have gathered complete evidence of these violations. Relevant authorities will soon intervene in the investigation."
Wu Zhifeng panicked. "What do you want to do?"
"Nothing," I replied with a smile.
"I'm just reminding everyone here that there are always a few bad apples in the industry, obsessed with plagiarism and taking shortcuts. These individuals will eventually pay the price."
The room fell silent.
"By the way," I closed my laptop, "I forgot to mention one thing."
Everyone turned to look at me.
"Your funding may be in jeopardy."
