Lin Ning gently placed the rubble back atop the grand hall. The two of them evaded the guards' watchful eyes and, seizing the moment, Lin Ning grasped Yuan Yueming's hand and leaped down from the hall. Hidden among the flowers, they quietly slipped away from Hong Taiji's palace. Approximately two kilometers southeast of Hong Taiji's palace stood Min's residence. They tethered their prized horses to a withered tree trunk in the open space outside the estate. After removing their disguises, they returned to their true appearances. Entering Min's residence, Lin Ning followed Yuan Yueming to the room where Wen Hui resided.
Upon entering, Lin Ning saw a middle-aged noblewoman dressed in white, adorned with a snow-feathered shawl over a creamy pink satin gown. The gown was intricately embroidered with rust-colored patterns and adorned with gold and silver threads, giving her an elegant appearance as she leisurely sipped tea. Despite her age, she possessed graceful brows and autumn-like eyes, with smooth crimson lips that exuded an air of elegance and beauty reminiscent of poetry: "Beauty eclipses both ancient and modern times; the lotus blushes before a jade face." It was easy to understand why Min was infatuated with her.
Wen Hui was particularly delighted to see the Princess of Yue Ming County. She rose from her seat, exclaiming in surprise, "Yue Ming! I heard from the soldiers after the battle at Ningyuan that you were captured by the Ming army. I was so worried about you!"
Yuan Yueming replied coldly, "Is that so? Did you truly worry for my safety? If that were the case, how could you sit here leisurely drinking tea?"
Wen Hui's expression changed slightly at Yuan Yueming's words. Hesitating, she glanced at the Princess of Yue Ming County and said, "Yue Ming, what’s wrong? I only worried for your safety..." At that moment, Yuan Yueming could no longer contain herself; she shouted, "Please stop pretending! You are not my mother, and I am not your daughter! Why have you deceived me all these years? How long do you intend to keep this up?"
Yuan Yueming's fiery gaze fixed intently on Wen Hui, whose face paled dramatically. She trembled and instinctively stepped back until she bumped into the tea table, causing cups to crash to the floor in a shower of white porcelain shards. In a hoarse voice, Wen Hui said, "Yue Ming, what’s wrong? I don’t understand what you’re saying!"
Yuan Yueming replied sharply, "Stop playing dumb! You are not my real mother; my true mother is the heroine Shen Chen, and my father is Yuan Qingtian, the leader of the Sun Moon Gang—am I right?"
Wen Hui was taken aback by this sudden revelation; cold sweat trickled down her forehead as she slumped into her seat, weakly saying, "Yue Ming, so you know everything!"
Seeing Wen Hui admit her identity so readily ignited Yuan Yueming's fury. She exclaimed angrily, "We are all subjects of Song; we are true Han people! Yet you covet Later Jin’s riches and glory—betraying your country for personal gain! Min caused my parents' deaths while you abandoned your husband and daughter to willingly aid him in his tyranny! You made me live as a thief’s daughter for over nineteen years! You are truly a wicked woman!"
Wen Hui's face turned pale as she shook her head repeatedly. "Yue Ming, things are not as you imagine. I had my reasons; I was forced into this!"
Furious beyond measure, Yuan Yueming shouted back, "You have no shame! The facts are right before us—do you still wish to argue? I want to hear what excuse you have left."
Just as Wen Hui opened her mouth to explain further, there came a rapid knocking at the door. Wen Hui rose to answer it; standing there was Min's personal guard. The guard spoke urgently to Wen Hui: "Madam, there’s trouble! The Young Prince has been imprisoned by the Great Khan for questioning! Furthermore, there is an edict stating that no one may visit him without his command."
Upon hearing this report from the guard, Wen Hui's expression shifted slightly but quickly returned to calmness as she replied nonchalantly, "Alright, I understand. You may leave now." The guard noted her indifference regarding Min's imprisonment and felt puzzled but refrained from questioning further due to her status.
As he took his leave, Wen Hui’s lips curled into a barely perceptible smile filled with contemplation. Yuan Yueming scoffed coldly: "How is it that your good husband is now in trouble yet you show no concern for his life or death?"
Wen Hui shook her head and said, "Yue Ming, I have no feelings for Min; my marriage to him was out of necessity!"
Her words only fueled Yuan Yueming’s disdain further: "You fickle woman! It’s utterly despicable! Now that you see Min in distress, you begin to despise him just like you once did your husband and daughter. A woman like you disgusts me; I don't have time for your nonsense! I'm going to the prison right now to kill that traitor Min and avenge my parents!" Without waiting for Wen Hui's response, Yuan Yueming turned and slammed the door behind her. Lin Ning anxiously followed closely behind her.
