Suddenly, a loud voice shouted from outside the cell, "Not good! There are assassins! Quickly catch the assassins, don't let them escape!" Lin Ning led the charge; his formidable inner strength and unmatched martial arts quickly scattered the guards. The two soon broke free from the cell, only to find themselves surrounded by a dense crowd of soldiers at the entrance. In the dark of night, the torches in the soldiers' hands flickered brightly, illuminating the surroundings as if it were daytime. Although there were many soldiers, most of them were mediocre in martial arts. Lin Ning and Yuan Yueming quickly broke through the encirclement and dashed westward. As they executed their lightness skills, they could see they were getting closer to the western wall. Suddenly, flames erupted outside the western wall, surging like a tidal wave; clearly, the enemy had surrounded the entire palace to prevent their escape. Lin Ning said, "Not good! These palaces were historically known as the Five Palaces of Chongde. The Central Palace was Qingning Palace where Empress Xiaoduanwen Zhe Zhe resided; she was the daughter of Menggu's Khorchin Prince Mangusi and was honored as Empress in Qingning Palace. The Eastern Palace housed Consort Hai Lan Zhu in Guanju Palace; she was the daughter of Khorchin's Zhai Sang Prince and was honored as Consort in Guanju Palace. The Western Palace had Noble Consort Namuzhong residing in Linzhi Palace; she was originally Lin Danhan's wife from Chahar and was honored as Noble Consort in Linzhi Palace. The Secondary Eastern Palace had Noble Lady Batema Zao residing in Yanqing Palace; she was also originally Lin Danhan's wife and was honored as Noble Lady in Yanqing Palace. The Secondary Western Palace housed Consort Zhuang Bumubutai; she was Khorchin's Zhai Sang Prince’s youngest daughter and was honored as Consort Zhuang in Yongfu Palace—later known as Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang.
Yuan Yueming was about the same age as Consort Zhuang Bumubutai; they got along very well despite their different statuses and were like close friends who shared everything. Ever since Bumubutai married Hong Taiji, every time Yuan Yueming visited the palace for fun, she would definitely seek out Consort Zhuang. Thus, when Yuan Yueming brought Lin Ning to Hong Taiji's harem location, she intended to find Consort Zhuang for refuge. However, when they arrived at Yongfu Palace, they found it completely dark inside; it seemed that Consort Zhuang had already gone to bed since it was late at night. As soon as her words fell silent, Guanju Palace's door quickly opened. As Lin Ning and Yuan Yueming stepped inside Guanju Palace, Yuan Yueming discovered that Consort Zhuang Bumubutai was also there. After calming herself down a bit, she stepped forward and grabbed both of Lin Ning’s hands saying excitedly, "Lin Ning! How is it you? Don’t you recognize me? I am Bumubutai!" Hearing these words from Consort Zhuang made Lin Ning take a closer look at her for a moment; although she had grown significantly taller than years ago, he could still recognize her by the heroic spirit reflected in her features—she truly was that little girl he rescued from the wolf pack back then.
