Suddenly, a loud voice shouted from outside the cell, "Not good! There are assassins! Quickly catch the assassins, don't let them escape!" It turned out that the guards had come to change shifts, and the new eight guards discovered the previous ones lying haphazardly on the ground, realizing that someone had broken into the prison. Lin Ning hurriedly said to Yuan Yueming, "Junior Sister, leave Min's life to Hong Taiji! He is arrogant and has committed many evils; Hong Taiji will not spare him!" Yuan Yueming glared at Min with gritted teeth and said, "Fine, let Hong Taiji deal with this demon!" Lin Ning and Yuan Yueming turned and rushed towards the prison door. Min crawled to the door of the cell, extending his hands out and shouting desperately, "Yue Ming, don’t go! Please save me..." Yuan Yueming hated Min to the bone; she thought to herself, "You deserve to die. It’s already a favor that I, Yuan Yueming, haven’t killed you myself."
Before Lin Ning and Yuan Yueming could burst out of the prison, soldiers from Later Jin had already stormed in. Lin Ning led the charge; his formidable inner strength and unmatched martial arts quickly scattered the guards. The two soon broke free from the cell, only to find themselves surrounded by a dense crowd of soldiers at the entrance. In the dark of night, the torches in the soldiers' hands flickered brightly, illuminating the surroundings as if it were daytime. Although there were many soldiers, most of them were mediocre in martial arts. Lin Ning and Yuan Yueming quickly broke through the encirclement and dashed westward. As they executed their lightness skills, they could see they were getting closer to the western wall. Suddenly, flames erupted outside the western wall, surging like a tidal wave; clearly, the enemy had surrounded the entire palace to prevent their escape. Lin Ning said, "Not good! We are surrounded." In truth, it wouldn’t be difficult for Lin Ning to break through given his high martial arts skills; however, Yuan Yueming was much weaker than him. If anything happened to her, he would feel guilty for a lifetime. Although Yuan Yueming had been pampered for nineteen years in Min's household, she was after all a descendant of heroes. The blood of bravery flowed in her veins, allowing her to remain calm in times of crisis. She steadied her mind and said to Lin Ning, "Follow me!" Yuan Yueming turned and led Lin Ning northeastward. In the darkness, they quickly passed by Hong Taiji's Grand Council Hall and continued north toward Hong Taiji's harem.
These palaces were historically known as the Five Palaces of Chongde. The Central Palace was Qingning Palace where Empress Xiaoduanwen Zhe Zhe resided; she was the daughter of Menggu's Khorchin Prince Mangusi and was honored as Empress in Qingning Palace. The Eastern Palace housed Consort Hai Lan Zhu in Guanju Palace; she was the daughter of Khorchin's Zhai Sang Prince and was honored as Consort in Guanju Palace. The Western Palace had Noble Consort Namuzhong residing in Linzhi Palace; she was originally Lin Danhan's wife from Chahar and was honored as Noble Consort in Linzhi Palace. The Secondary Eastern Palace had Noble Lady Batema Zao residing in Yanqing Palace; she was also originally Lin Danhan's wife and was honored as Noble Lady in Yanqing Palace. The Secondary Western Palace housed Consort Zhuang Bumubutai; she was Khorchin's Zhai Sang Prince’s youngest daughter and was honored as Consort Zhuang in Yongfu Palace—later known as Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang.
Yuan Yueming was about the same age as Consort Zhuang Bumubutai; they got along very well despite their different statuses and were like close friends who shared everything. Ever since Bumubutai married Hong Taiji, every time Yuan Yueming visited the palace for fun, she would definitely seek out Consort Zhuang. Thus, when Yuan Yueming brought Lin Ning to Hong Taiji's harem location, she intended to find Consort Zhuang for refuge. However, when they arrived at Yongfu Palace, they found it completely dark inside; it seemed that Consort Zhuang had already gone to bed since it was late at night. Just as they were unsure of what to do next, Yuan Yueming noticed that Guanju Palace across from Yongfu Palace was brightly lit. Without thinking much about it, she quickly rushed to Guanju Palace's entrance.
"Knock knock knock," a series of urgent knocks followed by a voice from inside asking who it was: "So late at night, who is it?" Yuan Yueming hurriedly replied, "I am Princess of Yue Ming County; I have urgent business with Consort!" In fact, Yuan Yueming did not have much interaction with Consort Hai Lan Zhu usually; to put it accurately, they merely knew each other. She had no idea whether Hai Lan Zhu would help her or not. But at this point, she could only take a chance with Lin Ning.
As soon as her words fell silent, Guanju Palace's door quickly opened. As Lin Ning and Yuan Yueming stepped inside Guanju Palace, Yuan Yueming discovered that Consort Zhuang Bumubutai was also there. It turned out that Hai Lan Zhu had just given birth to Prince Eight a month ago for Hong Taiji; Consort Zhuang and Hai Lan Zhu were sisters discussing their plans to visit Guanyin Temple soon to express gratitude for a safe delivery.
Lin Ning saw that one of Hong Taiji's consorts was stunningly beautiful with skin like snow and an elegant demeanor while another had eyes like deep black jade with delicate skin and a tall figure that resembled finely carved jade—each movement exuded an air of heroism. For some reason, upon seeing Hong Taiji’s second consort, Lin Ning felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity as if he had seen her somewhere before.
This second consort was Bumubutai—the girl he had saved from a pack of wolves on the Southern Mongolia grasslands years ago. However, girls change significantly over time; Bumubutai was no longer that innocent girl but now an immensely noble consort.
Seeing Consort Zhuang here brought joy to Yuan Yueming; she quickly exclaimed, "I didn't expect you would be here too! My brother and I are being hunted down by Great Khan’s soldiers; we hope you can help us!" Upon hearing this statement from Yuan Yueming, Consort Zhuang looked surprised; she only knew that Princess of Yue Ming County was Min’s daughter but had never heard about her having an older brother or why Hong Taiji would be hunting her down.
Consort Zhuang glanced at Lin Ning standing behind Yuan Yueming; when she recognized him as her savior from years ago—Lin Ning—she felt overwhelmed with joy and almost couldn't speak. After calming herself down a bit, she stepped forward and grabbed both of Lin Ning’s hands saying excitedly, "Lin Ning! How is it you? Don’t you recognize me? I am Bumubutai!" Hearing these words from Consort Zhuang made Lin Ning take a closer look at her for a moment; although she had grown significantly taller than years ago, he could still recognize her by the heroic spirit reflected in her features—she truly was that little girl he rescued from the wolf pack back then.
