As Lin Xiao was preparing to leave, she saw Li Hao's Mother walking out of the hospital room, quietly saying something to Meng Kai. Li Hao's Mother, dignified and elegant, despite her haggard appearance, could not hide the authority on her face. She merely glanced at the visitors outside, a look that conveyed her disdain from a position of power.
Carrying a fruit basket, Lin Xiao exited the hospital with Xiao Tian, thinking that as long as he was okay, that was all that mattered.
Around eight in the evening, Lin Xiao's phone rang. She felt a bit nervous when she saw the caller ID; did he know she had been to see him?
"Hello, Li Shuji," Lin Xiao greeted respectfully as always.
"You came to see me today?" Li Hao's voice was somewhat hoarse. "Why didn’t you let Xiao Meng come in to say hello?"
Lin Xiao thought about how many people were there; it would have been impossible for her to be singled out. She didn't even dare to imagine it.
"Are you feeling any better? I heard from Xiao Meng that it was quite serious," Lin Xiao asked, wanting to confirm how he was doing.
"You can come see me tomorrow morning at eight," Li Hao said after some thought. Compared to other women, he felt that Lin Xiao was more suitable for him.
Li Hao himself didn’t understand his feelings; occasionally, during his free time, he would think of Lin Xiao.
Lin Xiao hesitated; with his mother and Xiao Meng around, what would be the point of coming so early?
"Don’t want to come?" Li Hao thought this was her third rejection. Did she really dislike him that much? If so, why bother pretending to care and leave her name?
"No, it’s just that your mother and Xiao Meng are there; I’m afraid it might be inconvenient," Lin Xiao replied, somewhat flustered.
"Come over at eight tomorrow. I’ll have them both step out," Li Hao said irritably before hanging up.
The next morning at seven fifty-five, even before visiting hours began, the nurse asked for her name and let her in.
When Lin Xiao pushed the door open, she found that both his mother and Xiao Meng were not there. She felt a sense of relief as she stepped inside.
The hospital room was a suite; the inner part was the patient room while the outer part served as a reception area with a folding chair.
Li Hao lay half-reclined on the bed, his head wrapped in white gauze which made him look somewhat comical. He had more gauze on his forehead and various cuts on his face in different shades of healing. His hands and feet were also bandaged. Perhaps due to his injuries, he hadn’t shaved in days, giving him a disheveled appearance.
Lin Xiao's eyes were slightly red; the injuries seemed worse than what Xiao Meng had described. "Does it still hurt?"
"Come here," Li Hao said with his unbandaged hand reaching out to grab hers. "I don’t want to break up anymore. What do you say?"
Tears streamed down Lin Xiao’s face as she felt wronged inside. It was only when she learned about his injury that she realized she still had feelings for him; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been so frightened.
The last encounter was an accident. If you don't want it in the future, I won't touch you.
"Don't want it?" Li Hao looked at Lin Xiao, who remained silent, tears streaming down her face.
Damn it, rejected again. He released her hand and coldly said, "Don't appear in front of me again. I'm sorry this time; I misunderstood."
With tear-filled eyes, Lin Xiao looked at him in disbelief. She didn't say anything, and he finished speaking.
"Want it?" Li Hao realized he had jumped to conclusions too quickly. "Come a little closer, let me kiss you, okay?"
Seeing her again made him aware of just how much he desired her.
Lin Xiao didn't move. Li Hao pulled her hand with force, and when she saw the pain on his face, she hurriedly leaned in to let him kiss her.
Li Hao thought to himself that dealing with her was still well within his capabilities.
When he kissed Lin Xiao again, he finally felt a deep sense of longing.
