As the lunar month arrived, Lin Xiao was busier than ever, overwhelmed by various assessments. The Provincial Government required the organization of personnel records, standardizing filing requirements, supplementing incomplete or inadequate information, and addressing any cases of falsified records with special corrective measures, holding those responsible accountable for serious issues.
Lin Xiao, accompanied by civil servant Li Youyou, was busy sorting through personnel files while also collaborating with Xiao Tian on promotions and evaluations for officials. Often, she wouldn't leave until eleven or twelve at night. Since that time when the two had become intimately close, Li Hao made it a point to return to the provincial capital every Friday night, no matter how late it was.
After discovering their relationship, Xiao Wang and Meng Kai teased them privately, realizing that even a Secretary could be an ordinary person. Sometimes, just to see Lin Xiao, Li Hao would avoid unnecessary receptions on Fridays and often arrive at the Provincial Government around ten o'clock at night, only to rush back to the county by seven or eight.
On Thursday night, when Li Hao arrived at Lido Water View after eleven, the room was dark. He entered but found Lin Xiao was not there. On Friday, he was scheduled to attend a cadre exchange study meeting at the Provincial Government without informing her in advance. If Lin Xiao knew he would be late again, she would have to wait for him, which she had been finding exhausting lately.
Li Hao called Lin Xiao; it rang a few times before she answered. "Where are you?" he asked.
"At home," she replied. "Just finished showering and getting ready for bed." As she spoke with him, she went to put her bathrobe in the washing machine.
"Which home?" Li Hao thought he had asked a silly question.
"My own home," Lin Xiao responded, also feeling that his question was a bit foolish.
"You haven't been living at Lido Water View." When he called her, he had checked the guest room where she used to stay; the wardrobe was empty and only a mattress cover remained on the bed.
"You came?" Lin Xiao's voice brightened. "It's Thursday; why didn't you tell me? I'll come find you."
Li Hao didn't let Lin Xiao come over; it was too late for her to travel. Instead, he went down to his parking space to get his car. The vehicle was covered with a car cover that had gathered a thin layer of dust.
This was Li Hao's first time entering Lin Xiao's home. The place wasn't large; the living room was less than ten square meters with a light green three-seater sofa facing a wall of bookshelves filled with books and a small square dining table.
Lin Xiao opened the door wearing pajamas that Li Hao had never seen before—light purple coral fleece that accentuated her fair skin. She handed him a pair of men's cotton slippers and happily took his hand, pulling him close for an embrace. "You came! Why didn't you tell me?"
Seeing her like this made Li Hao lose his irritation; he walked directly into her bedroom.
The color scheme matched that of the living room—light tones throughout. The curtains were off-white, the cabinets were off-white, and the sheets on the bed were a warm yellow.
"They're freshly changed," Lin Xiao mentioned as she knew Li Hao had mild obsessive-compulsive tendencies and preferred clean sheets at night.
The dim light from the bedside lamp illuminated Lin Xiao's lively and charming figure as Li Hao stripped off his clothes and dove under the covers. Lin Xiao felt as if a furnace had burrowed into her bed as she snuggled closer to him.
Over the past few months, Lin Xiao had become well aware of Li Hao's vulnerabilities in bed. Her small hands glided down his spine, then moved to the front, burying her head against his chest. He lifted her up in his arms, and as he leaned down to kiss her, he realized how adept this little enchantress had become at reading him.
Having not seen her for half a month, he now understood just how much he craved her. He rolled over, pinning her beneath him, and launched his offensive.
"Li Hao, the old house has poor sound insulation; be gentle. I can't hold back," Lin Xiao bit down playfully on Li Hao as she lay beneath him.
Li Hao chose to ignore her words, unleashing a storm of passion until Lin Xiao was left exhausted in his embrace.
Afterward, Li Hao went to the bathroom for a quick shower. He grabbed the towel that Lin Xiao had prepared earlier and wrapped it around himself as he stepped out.
"How do you want me to help you wash?" Li Hao nudged Lin Xiao.
"The pink towel is for drying off; use the wet wipes below," Lin Xiao mumbled. "Lido Water View has a bathtub; the conditions here are too poor."
