Sun Professor held her tightly, taking the phone from her hand. "You need to be well; Li Hao waking up means you won't feel guilty."
Lin Xiao cried for a while, and Sun Professor, fearing she might hurt her eyes from crying, coaxed her until she calmed down.
Lin Tian was a girl, weighing six pounds and five ounces. She had weathered many storms and was very healthy.
"Mom, aren't you worried about Li Hao? Why don't you go see him? It might help you feel better," Lin Xiao asked her mother-in-law.
"I'm worried about him, and I'm worried about you too. In his condition, I can't help much. You still have the baby here; I feel more at ease knowing you're safe," Sun Professor replied.
How could Sun Professor not worry about her son? But Li Hao had given her a task. If Lin Xiao were to give birth and he couldn't make it in time, he insisted on being there for her.
Due to heavy bleeding, Lin Xiao's body was too weak; after seven days in the hospital, she still couldn't get out of bed. Sun Professor insisted that Lin Xiao stay longer, so she ended up in the hospital for another week.
During those two weeks in the hospital, Wang Mei took care of the baby, changing diapers and feeding her. Lin Xiao was too weak and emotionally drained to produce milk or have any strength.
Finally, after half a month, Li Hao woke up.
Lin Xiao showed him a video of Lin Tian, and Li Hao was overjoyed; he had become a father.
Seeing Li Hao awake and in better spirits made Lin Xiao feel relieved as well.
When it was time to discharge her, the guard carried her to the car. This time, Lin Xiao insisted on taking two trips; she was too afraid of anything going wrong again.
In the first trip, guard Wang Mei took Lin Xiao home. After she lay down on the bed, they went back to the hospital to pick up the baby.
After the last incident, the Xiangtian Provincial Committee increased patrols around the Provincial Committee area. Thankfully, nothing unusual happened this time, and the baby arrived safely.
On Lin Tian's one-month birthday, Lin Xiao invited Lin Mu to visit her.
As Lin Mu entered Lido Water View, she quietly asked Lin Xiao, "Your brother-in-law's family is quite wealthy; they live in such a big house."
Lin Xiao suppressed her frustration and repeatedly reminded her mother to take care of her sister after giving birth and not to ask about anything else.
Seeing Lin Xiao lying on the bed with a pale face made Lin Mu's heart ache. "How could giving birth be so hard?"
Hearing her mother's words brought tears to Lin Xiao's eyes; postpartum emotions made her particularly sensitive.
"Sister, what name did you give the baby?" Lin Xiao asked as she looked at the infant in the crib, feeling an overwhelming affection but hesitant to hold her because she seemed so small.
"Lin Tian," she replied happily upon seeing her baby.
"Why is it still Lin?" Lin Mu's expression changed. "Is he disappointed that it's a girl?"
Lin Xiao's expression changed as she confronted her mother. "Mom, you are a woman too. Why do you have to be like this? Ever since I was little, I've never been anything in your eyes. No matter what I do, you never think it's good enough. If that's the case, why did you even give birth to me?"
This was the first time Lin Xiao had argued with Lin Mu. She had endured enough and was fed up.
Lin Mu didn't expect her well-meaning words would provoke such a response from Lin Xiao. "Did I ever make you feel like you were lacking? After your father died, it’s just been the two of us—"
"Mom, shut up!" Lin Xiao shouted. "Sister, let's go. You take care of yourself."
Lin Xiao dropped the red envelope she had prepared earlier and pulled Lin Mu out of the room.
Outside, Professor Sun heard the argument but couldn't make out the details. He hesitated to intervene and only saw Lin Xiao leading Lin Mu out to say goodbye.
Professor Sun didn't stop them but glanced back into the room, noticing that Lin Xiao was crying again. He sighed inwardly, wondering how things had come to this.
