The two of them were tangled up, pulling each other's hair as they rolled on the ground, unable to separate for a moment.
"Big Dog Er Gou, come on!" Qi urged, trying to rally support.
The two dogs wanted to help, but with the two of them locked in such a struggle, they found it difficult to intervene. Qi Rong felt that fighting by pulling hair was a woman's way of brawling, so he let go of Qi's hair and threw a punch at his squinty eyes instead.
Qi yelped in pain, covering his eyes and rolling aside, crying out in distress.
Taking advantage of the moment, Qi Rong sat on him and began to rain down punches on his plump body.
"Big Dog Er Gou, save me!" Qi continued to call for help.
Seeing the two dogs approaching to assist, Qi Rong landed a heavy punch on Qi's chest and said, "If you're going to fight, at least call for help! But when it comes to eating meat, you don’t call anyone."
The two dogs nodded in agreement.
With each punch, Qi Rong continued, "You got a whole wild boar; why didn’t you share any meat with them? A pig leg, a slice of ear, a piece of intestine..."
The scene suddenly shifted; it felt as if Qi Rong was defending the two dogs.
Listening to Qi Rong ramble on about various parts of the pig only fueled the brothers' anger. They felt utterly wronged; their family had received an entire boar, yet they hadn’t even had the tail.
After exchanging glances for two seconds, the two dogs walked away.
Once they left, Qi Rong got off Qi and threatened him while shaking his fist, "Get lost already! If you keep talking nonsense in front of me, I’ll knock your teeth out!"
With snot and tears streaming down his face, Qi stood up and said between sobs, "Just wait! I’ll tell my dad!"
Qi Rong shook his sore hand and kicked Qi in the rear. Stumbling forward, Qi took off running home.
At that moment, Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law happened to see Qi with his bruised face.
Upon seeing Chen Ruolan, he spat and cried as he ran away, "Dad! Qi Rong hit me!"
Yu Chunmiao looked puzzled while Chen Ruolan frowned and said, "Let’s go home."
Chen Ruolan quickened her pace, worried about whether her younger son was hurt. From a distance, she saw smoke rising from their chimney. Yu Chunmiao asked, "Mom, who’s cooking?"
"Qi Chong," Chen Ruolan replied confidently.
In their household, only her eldest son could cook now; it was something her husband had taught him step by step.
With that thought in mind, Chen Ruolan hurried home; she was concerned about Qi Chong being injured—what would happen if he fell? Both her sons were a constant source of worry for her.
At the entrance of the courtyard, the two women encountered Qi Rong, who jogged up to them with a beaming smile. "Mother, I picked up half a basket of Niu Yang this morning!"
Chen Ruolan pulled him up and down to inspect him. "I see you're all right, but your face is bruised. You're not hurt, are you?"
Qi Rong shook his head with a smile. "Don't worry, Mother, I'm fine."
Yu Chunmiao noticed Qi Rong's injuries and, seeing how badly he was hurt while his brother-in-law remained unscathed, couldn't help but ruffle his hair in praise. "Qi Rong, you're really impressive."
Chen Ruolan interjected, "Is this really the time for compliments?"
However, as soon as her hand brushed against Qi Rong's head, he winced and recoiled. "When Qi fights, he pulls hair like a girl," he said, as if he hadn't just been the one to complain.
Chen Ruolan wrapped an arm around each of them and said, "Come on, let's close the courtyard gate. We don't want them coming back here."
