Time flew by since I joined the rescue team, and we all agreed that we shouldn’t casually call each other by our names, as some were hard to remember. So, we decided to come up with code names. Each of us could choose our own, but the team name would be a collective decision.
At first, the suggestions were quite varied. Some used their WeChat or online usernames, while others named themselves after their cars, like "Big Dog" or "Aurora." Some even went overboard with long strings of characters. Ultimately, after much discussion, we settled on two or three-character names, preferably based on animals or plants for ease of reference.
Old Wang chose the code name "King Cobra," a unique choice inspired by the fearsome reputation of the King Cobra snake. In contrast, my code name was "Hu Tai." When I introduced it to my teammates, many looked puzzled and struggled to understand its meaning. However, for me, this name carried a profound and significant backstory.
In fact, "Hu Tai" was not a random creation; it originated from an esteemed honorific title held by the company I once served in: "Attack like a Tiger, Stand firm like Mount Tai." This short yet powerful slogan represented our company's bravery and indomitable spirit in battle. It was also a symbol of motivation that encouraged every soldier to forge ahead without retreat.
Thus, I chose one character from those powerful words to form "Hu Tai" as my code name. It was both a tribute to my unforgettable military career and a constant reminder to stay true to my original intentions and never forget my roots. Regardless of the environment or challenges I face, I should uphold and pass down the excellent traditions of my company.
Next came the time to name our team. Everyone brainstormed and came up with many distinctive names, including Camellia for its beauty, Kunpeng symbolizing great ambition and strength, and Flying Wolf representing wildness and speed. However, after careful consideration, none of these names were chosen. Therefore, to finalize our team name smoothly, we decided to hold a committee meeting for an in-depth discussion.
During the meeting, everyone eagerly shared their thoughts. At that moment, Old Wang noticed I hadn’t spoken yet and asked, "Xiao Shuai, do you have any good ideas? Why not share your thoughts based on our team’s characteristics?" To be honest, I hadn’t seriously thought about the team name before this moment. But suddenly, one word popped into my mind: Tiger! Without hesitation, I blurted it out.
Upon hearing this name, everyone was momentarily taken aback before expressions of surprise spread across their faces. They quickly began to ask me why I chose it. Seeing their curiosity, I cleared my throat and explained calmly: "First of all, as we all know, Qing Su is known as Shancheng. If we delve deeper into what Shancheng means, it can be interpreted as a city located in the mountains or a city surrounded by numerous hills. So which animal is considered the king on land? The answer is undoubtedly the Tiger! Furthermore, our future operations will closely revolve around the characteristics of this city. Additionally, the unit I served in was renowned for its expertise in mountain warfare and was called Jungle Tiger. While we cannot adopt the same code name as our original unit, naming ourselves after the Tiger is perfectly fitting."
After hearing my explanation, everyone’s faces lit up with excitement as they praised the idea without reservation. Following a lively discussion and voting session, we reached a strong consensus to adopt this code name! For me, this name is not just a simple label; it shines like a bright light that illuminates and sustains my spiritual world. Reflecting on those years when I devoted my best youth to that brave unit known as Jungle Tiger while shouldering the sacred mission of defending our homeland fills me with nostalgia. Though I have since hung up my military uniform, that passionate spirit has never cooled down. Here I am in the rescue team named after the Tiger, quietly providing help and service to the people.
Such experiences evoke deep emotions within me. As time passes and my attire may change, that deeply rooted spirit remains unchanged. Just like the powerful words passed down from my former unit: "The heroic spirit endures; the Laoshan spirit will last for generations!" This invaluable spiritual wealth will forever inspire me to keep moving forward—no matter where I am or what challenges I face—remaining true to my original intentions while diligently fulfilling my solemn commitment to my country and its people.
