The final competition venue was set in the serene wilderness, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. The landscape was picturesque, with clear mountains and flowing waters, lush greenery teeming with the vitality of nature. In such an environment, the participants would face numerous unknown challenges, testing their adaptability and responsiveness.
On this vibrant and challenging first morning, sunlight poured over the training ground, casting a bright and dazzling glow. The morning's schedule was packed with demanding physical training and emergency rescue techniques competitions.
Among these events, the towering pull-up bar stood out as the most eye-catching. For most people, without having undergone rigorous training in the military or police systems, or lacking a long-term exercise routine, successfully pulling themselves up according to standard movements was no easy feat. Even those who managed to hoist themselves onto the bar often found themselves unable to sustain it for more than a few repetitions before falling back down weakly. After all, this task required exceptional upper body strength, core stability, and coordination—an arduous challenge for ordinary individuals.
The standards we set for qualification were not easily achievable. According to the rules, only those who could perform a minimum number of repetitions would have their scores counted as valid. Furthermore, the final judgment of victory would depend on the number of repetitions completed; in other words, whoever could achieve more repetitions in the shortest time would emerge as the undisputed winner of this contest. Such rules undoubtedly placed immense pressure on the participants while also igniting their inner fighting spirit and courage.
The atmosphere at the competition site was tense and lively as competitors showcased their skills in various ways, their movements and expressions ranging from bizarre to comical. Some gritted their teeth, their facial muscles contorted from exertion; others kicked wildly in mid-air as if trying to use that force to propel themselves upward. Amidst this chaos, only a few team members managed to remain calm and successfully execute the standard movements.
I clearly remember one teammate who initially performed exceptionally well, completing several repetitions in one go. However, when we cheered him on from outside the bar, he seemed frozen as if under a spell; no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't manage even one more pull-up. Eventually, he helplessly slid down from the bar.
Seeing his exhausted face, I hurried over to ask what was wrong: Were you out of strength? Or did you not grasp the correct technique? Faced with my concern, he didn't respond immediately but silently extended his right hand for me to see. In that moment, my heart sank as I noticed several large and small blisters on his palm! Some had burst open, blood mingling with sweat seeping out—a shocking sight.
I gently patted his shoulder to comfort and encourage him: "Don't be too hard on yourself; this is quite common. Back in my days in the military, I often encountered similar situations. Quickly find some disinfectant to treat your wounds and apply some ointment." In fact, for those who frequently engaged in physical training, developing blisters from pull-ups was quite routine. Reflecting on my days in the military, nearly every comrade would experience some degree of hand damage after intense pull-up practice. Thus, what everyone could do was take protective measures before training to safeguard their palms as much as possible.
In the afternoon, sunlight glimmered on the water's surface as an intense Water Rescue competition was about to commence. As per usual practice, participants arrived early at the venue for final preparations. However, something amusing happened today that made us marvel at this group’s creativity.
It turned out that someone had come up with the idea of setting up a barbecue grill next to the competition area! It was placed in that familiar corner but had now transformed into a waiting area for competitors. When our captain arrived at the scene and saw this setup, he was momentarily stunned, his face displaying disbelief.
As for me, having enjoyed some delicious skewers here last time, I felt somewhat guilty about it—after all, one should not bite the hand that feeds them. So I quickly ran over to explain to our captain: "Let them do it, Captain. After all, we've been training hard these past few days; everyone has worked really hard. This barbecue setup won’t interfere with our competition."
After hearing my words, our captain fell silent for a moment without immediately responding. Just then, a clever teammate swiftly grabbed a fragrant skewer of grilled meat and jogged over to hand it to him. The captain took the skewer, inhaled its enticing aroma, and a slight smile crept onto his face as if he had silently approved of this arrangement.
On another day filled with various subjects scheduled outdoors—rope skills being one of them—most participants had received relatively little training in this area previously. When faced with actual competition conditions later on, a significant number of teammates struggled to complete tasks within the designated time limits. Meanwhile, a small group performed exceptionally well; they not only completed rope maneuvers swiftly and efficiently but even exceeded time requirements by far. This polarization phenomenon is not uncommon; after all, there is a vast difference between those who invest considerable effort into training and those who only participate occasionally.
After thoroughly analyzing and discussing the results of this rope skills test, we realized that our current daily training program needed some adjustments and improvements. Therefore, regarding future training plans, we decided to increase both the frequency of training sessions and the duration spent on each session appropriately. Through this approach, we hoped every teammate could gain more practice opportunities to gradually enhance their proficiency and speed in rope operations so that everyone could complete related tasks quickly and steadily in future assessments or real-world applications.
After several rounds of intense competition across all subjects concluded successfully, we were delighted with the results! In fact, organizing this competition was not solely focused on individual rankings or honors; more importantly, it aimed to enhance the overall skill level of our team and foster teamwork among members.
From analyzing the final results, most participants achieved moderate scores. This indicated stable performances across various events—neither particularly outstanding nor glaringly deficient. Among them were teammates who did not place during competitions; when we observed their expressions closely, we found satisfaction reflected on each face. For these teammates, participating in this competition itself was a valuable experience; through sparring with others they gained profound insights into their shortcomings while also identifying directions for self-improvement. Simultaneously, facing various challenges together significantly strengthened internal camaraderie within our team; everyone learned from each other and helped one another—this spirit of unity and proactive engagement became one of the most precious gains from this competition.
Since then, we established a tradition of meticulously planning and organizing a competition every year. These competitions vary in scale—from grandiose events filled with grandeur to smaller ones with a relaxed atmosphere—yet each form is infused with excitement and endless fun.
Sometimes our entire team gathers together for these grand competitions; at other times smaller professional groups might flexibly hold internal contests based on their circumstances. Although each competition generally features similar subjects over time new elements are continually integrated into them ensuring freshness and appeal remain intact.
At the same time it is heartening that each year participants also change gradually. Those once familiar faces are increasingly replaced by batches of energetic newcomers who dive into competitions with enthusiasm and determination showcasing their remarkable skills and talents.
Thanks to this continuous influx of fresh blood competition results are consistently being refreshed records are broken repeatedly heights are surpassed time after time which not only witnesses everyone’s progressively refined skill levels but also embodies an enterprising spirit where new generations push forward old ones. On this stage filled with challenges and opportunities everyone gives their all crafting their own brilliant chapters.
