In the hall, the air seemed to freeze, and a chilling gust of wind inexplicably emerged, creeping down Lin Yuan's neck. He rubbed his arms, feeling the ancient book in his hands grow even warmer, as if he were cradling a freshly baked sweet potato. This thing was now a treasure, but it could also be a death warrant; if it fell into the wrong hands, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Su Jiu'er stood beside Lin Yuan, her slender figure trembling slightly like a delicate flower swaying in the wind. Yet her gaze was resolute, her small hand tightly gripping the compass at her chest, ready for action at any moment. This girl looked fragile, but she surprisingly had guts; no wonder she was from a family of archaeologists. At critical moments, she was far more reliable than those "warriors" in the live stream who only knew how to type on their keyboards. Those viewers would boast endlessly, but when it came down to it, they would probably run faster than Bolt.
Two men in black approached with ill intent, their Spiritual Energy Fluctuation buzzing like a phone on vibrate mode—clearly not to be trifled with. Lin Yuan thought to himself: Could these be the infamous Qi Gong Association's enforcers? No way, no way! Did they really come knocking so soon?
"Who are you? Why are you following us?" Lin Yuan glared at the men in black, his tone icy as he tried to appear enigmatic, though his heart raced with anxiety.
"Hmph, enough nonsense! Hand over the ancient book and we’ll spare your lives!" One of the men snorted coldly, his arrogant tone suggesting he fancied himself some sort of martial arts leader.
"Pfft! Who do you think you are? The King of Heaven? If you want to rob us, just say so—no need for all this pretentiousness!" Lin Yuan could not stand such pompous behavior and shot back defiantly. If the viewers in the live stream saw this scene, they would probably flood the chat with "666" in admiration.
"Seeking death!" The man in black roared in anger and lunged at Lin Yuan with an oddly shaped weapon. His speed was like an arrow released from a bow, creating a gust of wind that blew Lin Yuan's bangs up.
Lin Yuan was prepared; he sidestepped just in time to evade the attack. The weapon grazed his clothing with a sharp "sizzle," leaving a gash in his newly bought limited edition sportswear.
"Damn it! That was my new limited edition sportswear! Can you afford to pay for it?" Lin Yuan looked at his torn shirt and felt a pang of pain. He had saved up for months to buy that outfit, and now it was ruined—it felt worse than having flesh cut from his body.
"You still have time to worry about your clothes? Die!" The man in black charged again, his strikes fierce and relentless, each aimed directly at Lin Yuan's vital points.
As Lin Yuan dodged the attacks, he studied the man's moves and realized that while they looked intimidating, they were full of openings. This guy was likely just an ordinary enforcer from the Qi Gong Association without any real skills.
"With moves like that, you think you can steal my stuff? Go home and practice for a few more years!" Lin Yuan taunted while evading blows and even mimicked Bruce Lee’s classic moves to show off a bit.
"You brat, you're asking for death!" The man in black was enraged by Lin Yuan's taunt, attacking with even more ferocity, completely disregarding his own defense, like a wild beast that had lost its mind.
Lin Yuan seized the opportunity and kicked the man in black squarely in the stomach. The man let out a howl as he flew backward, crashing heavily to the ground, clutching his abdomen and unable to get up for a long time.
"With your pathetic skills, you think you can fight me? You're simply overestimating yourself!" Lin Yuan clapped his hands as if dusting himself off, but in reality, he was trying to conceal his slightly trembling legs.
Seeing this, another man in black rushed forward, attempting to ambush Lin Yuan. A flash of cold light glinted from his hand as a short sword lunged straight for Lin Yuan's chest.
"Just a petty trick!" Lin Yuan sneered, turning around and landing a punch on the man's face, hitting him squarely on the nose. The man let out a scream, blood gushing from his nose as he staggered backward, seeing stars.
"Is that all you've got? Too weak!" Lin Yuan shook his head in disappointment at the strength of these two men in black, much like a seasoned foodie encountering an unpalatable dish.
At that moment, Su Jiu'er also finished her battle. Although she was at a disadvantage, she successfully restrained her opponent with her agile movements and the assistance of her compass. Seizing the opportunity, she struck the edge of the compass hard against her opponent's head.
"Stop dawdling; let's get out of here. There are probably more of them," Lin Yuan urged as he grabbed Su Jiu'er's hand and ran toward the exit of the hall.
Just then, a tall man suddenly appeared at the entrance of the hall, blocking their path.
"Want to leave? Not so easy!" The man said coldly, a glint of menace flashing in his eyes like a drawn sword.
Lin Yuan's heart sank; he sensed that this opponent would be much harder to deal with. The man's aura was clearly far stronger than that of the previous two men in black, exuding an oppressive presence that was suffocating.
"This guy has a strong Spiritual Energy Fluctuation; he seems to be quite skilled," Su Jiu'er whispered, her tone laced with concern.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here," Lin Yuan comforted, gripping Su Jiu'er's hand to offer her a bit of encouragement. He knew that a fierce battle was inevitable!
