I never expected Yan Chengcheng to be so angry.
After leaving the office, she was still apologizing to me.
"I'm really sorry, Shang Haoran. I didn't know the counselor wanted to call me in to talk about you. If I had known, I wouldn't have come."
"It's okay."
I smiled, "I don't mind."
"I do!"
Yan Chengcheng glared at me. "Don't you feel wronged? You worked so hard, yet people accuse you of cheating. You've clearly made progress, but others doubt you. Why is that?"
"Shang Haoran, I believe in you. I believe in you more than anyone else."
I was taken aback for a moment, feeling a warmth in my heart.
"Yan Chengcheng, why?"
"What do you mean, why?"
"Why do you believe in me?"
"Because you're family."
Yan Chengcheng looked at me with a smile. "Even if we're not friends, you're still my little brother. As an older sister, how could I not believe in my own brother?"
At that moment, my eyes turned red.
"Thank you, Yan Chengcheng."
"No need to thank me."
Yan Chengcheng patted my shoulder. "I'll tell everyone that your choice was right."
I smiled, "Okay."
During the final exams, I made significant progress. From being third from the bottom, I jumped into the top three.
The moment I saw my results, Yan Chengcheng couldn't help but hug me.
"Shang Haoran, you're amazing!"
I felt my face flush. "This is all your doing."
I solemnly handed the report card to Yan Chengcheng.
For some reason, I was even more excited than she was.
She smiled, and I couldn't help but smile back.
My gaze was fixed on her face, wishing she could always be this happy.
For someone like me, a rich second generation, a degree wasn't the most important thing.
Yet, I couldn't control myself.
"By the way, do I get a reward?"
I blinked at her, deliberately using a playful tone. "Huan Huan, whatever you want, I can make it happen."
Yan Chengcheng blushed. "Let's just put it on hold for now; I'll ask you when I've thought of something."
"Okay."
I nodded with a smile.
I noticed that Yan Chengcheng seemed a bit hesitant to meet my gaze.
Perhaps she realized that my eyes had an aggressive intensity.
Unknowingly, my presence had overwhelmed her like a rising tide.
Everything was proceeding according to my plan.
But just before the start of our junior year, I received a call from Qin Lanlan.
She said she was coming back.
Her goal was clear: to seize all the inheritance rights of the the Ye Family.
Yan Chengcheng answered the phone. "Sister, I'm coming back to the country."
"Didn't you just leave two months ago?"
"I'm coming back this time to reclaim all the inheritance rights of the the Ye Family."
My heart sank.
She continued, "You need to find Shang Haoran's weakness; I want to ruin him."
After hanging up the phone, my hands trembled slightly.
Yan Chengcheng could have protected me.
But she didn't.
I knew she had her own helplessness.
After all, Qin Lanlan was her biological sister, and she couldn't betray her.
Yan Chengcheng had considered telling me the truth.
But she was afraid I wouldn't be able to handle the blow.
After all, being schemed against by someone you hold dear is a painful experience.
Qin Lanlan soon returned.
The environment in Europe had nurtured her well.
Yan Chengcheng drove to pick her up.
Qin Lanlan looked at her with a face full of disappointment.
"I really don't understand what you're thinking, letting such a good opportunity with the the Ye Family slip away is just foolish."
Yan Chengcheng remained silent.
Qin Lanlan began to outline the upcoming plan for her.
"Sister, Shang Haoran hasn't done anything wrong; we can't hurt him."
For the first time, Yan Chengcheng rejected her.
