Lin Mu Xi had been busy for the past half month, juggling school and helping her father, and I hadn't seen her in ages. "What brings you here?" I asked.
Lin Mu Xi plopped down right next to me, teasing that if I didn't show up soon, she was afraid someone might think I was really gone for good. I straightened up in surprise; after half a month, it was finally nice to see her. "Do you have any news about Wang Ju'en?"
"Look at you! How can a guy get so excited about another girl in front of a girl?" Lin Mu Xi rolled her eyes dramatically.
"What are you talking about? I've missed you so much these past weeks that I thought my head would fall off!"
Both Lin Mu Xi and Hu Yao stared at me in disbelief.
"Do you want to hear what you just said?" Hu Yao chimed in. "I've heard people say they miss someone so much they can't sleep at night, but I've never heard anyone say they miss someone so much their head might fall off!"
Hu Yao mistakenly thought my words were some kind of romantic exchange between Lin Mu Xi and me. He stood up, pointed at me, then at Lin Mu Xi, and said, "You two are getting too cozy! I'm out of here."
Over the past half month, due to my absence, the atmosphere between Hu Yao and Lin Mu Xi had lost its previous tension. "Has he been triggered by something?"
"Who cares? Just tell me what news you have!" I urged impatiently. I was eager to know what Wang Ju'en was planning next; it seemed like the calmer things were, the more likely something big was brewing.
The information I had wasn't much, but it seemed they were preparing to venture into the Lake Entity Industry, starting with restaurants in various malls and then gradually expanding. They needed my help to pave the way for their entry into the lake area.
"And you should be careful," I continued. "I heard Wang Ju'en has been looking for some people to reach out to you. That's all I know for now."
"Wow! After all this time without any action, turns out they're planning something big! They want to target me and expand into the lake area? Not a chance!"
I glared with fierce determination, a cold smile on my face. "Let's see who can outsmart whom."
Lin Mu Xi looked at me with a hint of concern; she had never seen this expression on my face before, and it sent shivers down her spine. "Zhao Zhao Lun, are you okay?"
"What's wrong? What could possibly be wrong with me? I need to discuss this with my dad first and then I'll let you know the next steps."
After saying that, I left. If I wanted to get involved in Old Zhao's business, I might as well practice with Wang Ju'en first; I could do without this marriage contract!
After school, I rushed home, eager to share the news with Old Zhao. When I arrived at the door and opened it, I saw two men and two women sitting on the sofa, chatting and laughing.
"Grandpa! Grandma! What are you doing here?"
I didn't even take off my shoes and ran straight to the sofa.
My grandparents were very fond of me. When I was young, whenever Old Zhao tried to hit me, Grandpa would grab a wooden stick and chase him away. That's one of the reasons why I loved my grandparents so much.
It's a bond that runs deep in the blood of every person from the Dragon Kingdom.
"Oh my, my good grandson is back from school! Come let Grandma see if you've lost weight!"
