She had already made the greatest compromise, and I had to agree to this request. "No problem," I replied.
"Then I have a request too!"
I looked at her in confusion and asked, "What request?"
"The first child of Brother Zhao Lun must be born by me in my next life."
What? What on earth is this girl thinking all day long? I thought to myself, but I still verbally agreed to her. Otherwise, she would definitely go back on her word, and it would be too late to take it back then. As for who would give birth to the first child, that wasn't up to me anyway, and besides, it was still a long way off; we had plenty of time to discuss it later.
Meanwhile, Ouyang Zhirou sat in the chair that Ouyang Xiong had just occupied. It had already been almost two hours, and the longer the time dragged on, the more anxious she became. The floor was a mess, littered with items that Ouyang Zhirou had smashed in frustration.
"I don't care! Even if you have to chase her all the way to Magic City, you must bring that damn crazy woman Hua Yu Yan back!"
"Calm down, daughter. In such a short time, she can't leave Lake City. All the airports, high-speed rail stations, and even private jets are being monitored by us and the Lin family. She must still be within Lake City."
"Within Lake City! Within Lake City! Where is she? With so many people searching for two hours, haven't we found her yet? Dad, do you know—"
Ouyang Zhirou paused; she didn't finish her sentence. What Hua Yu Yan said was true—her father, Ouyang Xiong, was indeed not as capable as he used to be. But all of this was for the sake of the two of them—if she were to say something hurtful now, it would be completely counterproductive.
"What did she say?"
"She's just a shameless woman! I want to kill her!"
Ouyang Zhirou picked up the only remaining computer monitor on the table and smashed it onto the floor.
"Oh my ancestors, don’t break it! There’s nothing left in there!"
Ouyang Xiong immediately turned around and shouted at his subordinates, "Why aren’t you moving faster?"
Yet inside, he cursed Old Zhao repeatedly.
Lin Mu Xi was in a similar situation; her phone rang one after another as she continuously asked her staff if they had seen Hua Yu Yan. Everyone gave the same answer: they hadn’t seen her.
The entire day passed like this; some were happy while others were worried. Naturally, I was among those who were happy. Beside me lay Hua Yu Yan, tightly holding onto me; she looked especially sweet and peaceful in her sleep that night.
In contrast, Ouyang Zhirou and Lin Mu Xi spent the night wide awake, tossing and turning in bed unable to sleep. Both were preoccupied with the same question: had that crazy woman Hua Yu Yan completely consumed Zhao Lun?
The next morning, just as dawn broke, they both gathered at Hu Yao's doorstep.
A series of urgent knocks disrupted Hu Yao's sweet dreams.
"Who the hell is it? Are you crazy, knocking on the door this early?"
Hu Zhi Duo had a habit of going for a morning run whenever it was still dark outside. He had even called Hu Yao to join him, and they had fought about it, but Hu Yao refused to step out. In the end, it was left unresolved.
Hu Yao cursed as he ran to the door. As soon as he opened it, before Ouyang Zhirou and Lin Mu Xi could say anything, his angry shouts erupted.
"Today, I want to see who the hell dares to knock on my door at this hour!"
Just as he finished his rant, he caught sight of Ouyang Zhirou and Lin Mu Xi's grim faces.
