The family knew that today both Hu Ruoyun and Mao Na were coming back, so they were all waiting at home.
When the two entered, Zhang Xiuzhen immediately began to scold Mao Na, “Your dad said you were coming back today, and it’s already this late! Ignoring her, Mao Weiguo turned to Hu Ruoyun and asked, “How did it go?”
Hu Ruoyun replied, “It went okay. She said she would draft a plan and discuss it with the county later.”
Mao Weiguo felt pleased. “Great! So your hard work today wasn’t in vain.”
Mao Jie poured two glasses of water for Mao Na and Hu Ruoyun. “Have you eaten?”
Hu Ruoyun answered, “Yes, we ate with Teacher Wang in Annan.”
Mao Weiguo said, “Business is business and personal is personal. I’ll talk to Zhang Qiang about the expenses at the guest’s place later. We need to follow proper procedures for reimbursement; we can’t let personal matters interfere with public service.”
Mao Na chuckled. “County Chief Mao makes a good point.”
Mao Weiguo suddenly turned back to the two of them. “You probably don’t know about Yao Wei and Li Shengnan yet?”
Hu Ruoyun and Mao Na were taken aback. “They…?”
The situation was such that those involved were often oblivious while outsiders could see clearly. Everyone knew that Yao Wei was having affairs outside; even Li Shengnan, who had just given birth, was completely unaware.
Just yesterday afternoon, Yao Wei and a female colleague had begun a very public affair in the office… They hadn’t even locked the door. A colleague unaware of what was happening opened it with a key and caught them both completely undressed with clothes strewn everywhere.

Her mother stayed by her side constantly, fearing she might do something drastic.
With Mao Na absent, Zhang Xiuzhen went on behalf of her daughter. Ouyang Xiaxue was there too. Li Shengnan remained indifferent; no matter how much everyone tried to persuade her, she wouldn’t say a word.
It wasn’t until nearly eleven at night that Li Shengnan finally spoke up. “Mom, I’m a bit hungry; can you make me a bowl of noodles?” Her mother immediately burst into tears but hurried off to prepare it.
Then Li Shengnan turned to Zhang Xiuzhen. “Auntie, you should go home now. I’m fine; don’t worry about me. I won’t let myself get upset over someone like him!”
She then pulled Ouyang Xiaxue closer. “It’s wonderful to meet the right person; we must cherish it!”
Zhang Xiuzhen relaxed a little. "Mao Na will be back in a couple of days. I'll have her come over to keep you company, my girl!"
Hu Ruoyun turned to Mao Jie and said, "Aren't you free tomorrow?"
"Yes, we have a day off," Mao Jie replied.
Hu Ruoyun arranged, "Tomorrow, let your sister accompany Li Shengnan, while you and I can entertain the clients coming from Jiangcheng. There's nothing serious to do, just some sightseeing and eating."
Mao Weiguo and Zhang Xiuzhen nodded in agreement. "Alright, Mao Jie, you can go with Xiao Hu."
Mao Na protested, "How am I supposed to comfort Li Shengnan?"
Hu Ruoyun swore under her breath, "Comfort my foot! Don't say a single comforting word; just scold him! Call Yao Wei a scoundrel with bad intentions, a rogue, worse than a pig or dog—just hurl any insults you can think of!"
The family burst into laughter, and Zhang Xiuzhen playfully chided, "Xiao Hu, what kind of idea is that?"
Mao Weiguo added, "Exactly! Let's do it this way! Tell Li Shengnan it's my suggestion. The county's stance is to first dismiss Yao Wei from his public office. If the charges against him are substantiated, the court will handle it according to the law!"
Mao Na still looked puzzled, but Hu Ruoyun waved her hand dismissively. "Just say it like that. Don't worry!"
