"Jiyue, who is she? How dare she insult my family?" Li Xiyun gritted her teeth in anger.
"Uh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Zhao Xinrong, Jiyue's first girlfriend and the young lady of the Zhao Family from Hong Kong Island," Zhao Xinrong said smugly.
"Zhao Xinrong, have you had enough? Our relationship ended a long time ago," Liu Jiyue said in a deep voice.
Zhao Xinrong was indeed Liu Jiyue's first girlfriend, but they had broken up when Liu Jiyue went abroad for studies. Initially, it didn't matter much; Zhao Xinrong was a wealthy heiress who could have any handsome man she wanted. However, after Liu Jiyue returned home and developed a type of Divine Medicine, he quickly became famous, and the Liu Family's business flourished significantly. Zhao Xinrong began to regret their breakup and wanted to reconcile with Liu Jiyue. Yet, Liu Jiyue had not agreed and instead started dating a domestic woman, which left Zhao Xinrong feeling dissatisfied and resentful, prompting her to stir up trouble now.
If the woman Liu Jiyue was going to marry today had a more prominent background than hers, she would not have dared to act so arrogantly. Unfortunately for her, Li Xiyun's background seemed insignificant in her eyes. Seeing her man being taken away by someone like this only fueled Zhao Xinrong's resentment.
"So what if you're Jiyue's first girlfriend? That's all in the past. Right now, I am Jiyue's fiancée. No matter how dissatisfied you are, it doesn't matter," Li Xiyun shot back angrily, confronting Zhao Xinrong.
"Heh, do you really think Jiyue likes you?" Zhao Xinrong sneered.
"You probably don't know this yet, but I'm pregnant with Jiyue's child," Li Xiyun said with some pride.
"And so what? Your status is merely that of a breeding tool," Zhao Xinrong replied, then turned to Liu Jiyue with a meaningful look and said, "Jiyue, I know what you're thinking."
"You really are insane." Under Zhao Xinrong's gaze, Liu Jiyue felt uneasy, fearing she might say something even more hurtful. He reached out and pushed Zhao Xinrong away.
Zhao Xinrong did not escalate the situation further; she merely stood aside and watched coldly.
"Xiyun, let me take you to meet my parents," Liu Jiyue said.
"Okay," Li Xiyun nodded. "What about my parents?"
"My dad isn't feeling well and shouldn't meet too many people. Just you go meet him for now. My mom will come out later; it's not too late to see her then. Right now, you mainly need to greet my dad," Liu Jiyue explained.
"Alright." Li Xiyun didn’t say much more; she understood that marrying into a wealthy family came with its own set of rules and that she would have to endure some humiliation.
The bride's father and mother felt somewhat awkward. They had arrived yesterday but hadn’t been able to meet their in-laws yet today either; it felt like they were being looked down upon. However, they didn’t dare say much—after all, their in-laws were of a higher status than them.
"Xiyun, go ahead. We'll wait here," the bride's mother said, her eyes reflecting disappointment.
As Liu Jiyue and Li Xiyun left, Zhao Xinrong walked up to the bride's father and mother and said, "You don’t really think that marrying your daughter to Liu Jiyue will allow you to climb the social ladder? The Liu Family is quite proud and won’t take you seriously. Do you see? You don’t even have the right to meet your in-laws."
Faced with Zhao Xinrong’s harsh words, the bride's father and mother could only choose to swallow their anger. They were just domestic businessmen while Zhao Xinrong clearly had a powerful background; opposing someone like her would bring no benefit at all.
