I called him, and he impatiently replied, “Yu Mingli, what’s wrong with you now?”
I was so angry that my chest heaved violently. “Do you have any idea that I almost got killed today?”
Mao Jian sneered, “Yu Mingli, are you in a relationship with the police or something?”
I couldn’t believe it. “Mao Jian, how did you become like this?”
Mao Jian dismissed me with disdain. “You’re the one who changed first.”
I grabbed a cushion and threw it at him. “Get out of here!”
Mao Jian dodged and turned to leave. “You’re impossible.”
Bang!
The door slammed shut.
I stood there, trembling all over.
The boy who once loved me was gone.
The next day, I had someone investigate Ping Ping’s background.
Then, I cornered her in the break room and handed her a stack of documents. “You’ve been with the company for two months now; you can handle these files.”
Ping Ping looked clearly flustered. “Sister Yu, there are too many documents. I can’t finish them all.”
Raising an eyebrow, I replied, “Ping Ping, you need to grow up quickly.”
Ping Ping said pitifully, “Sister Yu, I think you misunderstood.”
“I don’t have any feelings for Brother Jian.”
I looked at her coldly. “You’d better remember that.”
“Otherwise, the consequences are on you.”
Ping Ping’s face turned pale. “I understand.”
During lunch, I saw Mao Jian walking toward Ping Ping with a tray.
He smiled and said, “Ping Ping, there are too many files, right? Let me help you with some of them.”
Ping Ping's eyes lit up. "Really? Thank you!"
I frowned. "Mao Jian, it's time to leave."
Mao Jian furrowed his brows. "But we're working overtime."
I scoffed. "I didn't ask you to work overtime."
Mao Jian replied with dissatisfaction, "Yu Mingli, don't make things difficult for Ping Ping."
I shot him a cold glare. "Mao Jian, if you don't want to work, then quit!"
Mao Jian was left speechless with anger.
In the end, he walked away.
Ping Ping's face turned pale. "Sister Yu, I didn't mean to upset you."
I dismissed her with disdain. "You should know your place."
I went on a business trip over the weekend.
Without my consent, Mao Jian took Ping Ping to meet his parents.
Guo Hua discovered that Ping Ping had blocked me from her social media.
"Yu Mingli, you need to be more aware."
I stared at my phone screen, momentarily at a loss for words.
Mao Jian's change caught me off guard.
He used to never concern himself with such trivial matters.
Let alone take another woman to meet his parents just to spite me.
I never imagined he could become so despicable.
When I returned home that night, I confronted him. "Mao Jian, why did you take Ping Ping to meet your parents?"
Mao Jian casually retorted, "Why not?"
I was so furious that my chest heaved violently. "Why didn't you discuss this with me beforehand?"
Mao Jian scoffed, "Discuss what? If you're getting married, you'll have to quit your job and stay home to raise the kids."
I couldn't believe it. "Mao Jian, what do you mean?"
Mao Jian replied impatiently, "Yu Mingli, can't you understand anything?"
"You’re almost thirty; it’s time for you to have children."
"With how busy the company is, can you really raise a child on your own?"
"Ping Ping is different; she doesn’t have to do anything at home and can focus entirely on taking care of her husband and kids."
I was completely awakened to the reality.
My relationship with Mao Jian had reached its end.
The next day, we officially broke up.
That night, I tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
When I finally woke up again, it was already noon.
I felt feverish all over, my head pounding.
I reached up to touch my forehead.
The temperature was alarming.
