As the arrival of the New Year approached, people busily prepared to welcome the coming year. Many families took this opportunity to move into new homes!
The Lin family was no exception. They worked together to organize and pack their belongings, bustling with joy. After much effort, they finally managed to tidy up their home.
On the other hand, the Wu family was not as fortunate. With Teacher Zhuang assigned to grade college entrance exam papers in another city, only Huang Ling was left to face the heavy burden of moving alone. Just when she felt a bit helpless, the kind-hearted Lin family learned of her situation and immediately offered their assistance.
While everyone was enthusiastically busy with the move, an unexpected incident occurred. It turned out that the Wang family next door had secretly dug a hole in the wall separating their two homes! This infuriated Song Ying, who stormed over to the Wang family's door and launched into a relentless tirade against them. She pointed out the impropriety of their actions with sharp words and clear reasoning, leaving the Wang family members speechless and blushing. However, they remained unrepentant.
Coincidentally, that day, Zhuang Xiaoting was celebrating a joyful occasion, with red decorations fluttering like colorful clouds and happiness resonating throughout the streets. Everyone gathered together with smiles, and Song Ying and Huang Ling presented carefully prepared small gifts to Shan Shan and Xiao Jun, whose eyes sparkled with delight as they thanked them in cheerful voices. The table inside was piled high with wedding candies, and everyone enjoyed the sweets while watching the radiant bride in her red dress, laughter echoing through the streets.
Taking advantage of the clear weather, Mr. and Mrs. Lin grabbed shovels and headed toward the muddy ground, intending to teach the Wang family a lesson for their misdeeds. Upon returning home, Lin Dongzhe and Suzhou were nestled beside Zhuang Tunan like two well-behaved chicks, listening intently as he recounted tales of marvelous adventures. They gasped in wonder and chuckled at his stories. Watching this warm scene, Song Ying couldn't help but smile, filled with happiness.
As night fell, rain began to patter softly like scattered beads. Unbeknownst to them, due to the hole dug by the Wang family earlier, mud blocked their water pipe, turning the Wang family's home into a flooded mess. Their furniture soaked and ruined, they had no choice but to block up the hole in defeat, tasting the bitter consequences of their actions.
Life continued onward as sunlight poured over the land, yet it could not fend off the biting cold wind. Teacher Zhuang finished a long day of relentless work and trudged homeward with weary steps.
As he opened the door to his house, he saw Lin Dongzhe sprawled on the cold floor, completely absorbed in playing marbles. The little boy curled up like a lazy puppy; upon hearing the noise, his eyes brightened as he looked up at Teacher Zhuang with a radiant smile. Slowly getting up, he dusted himself off and waved cheerfully while introducing himself in a clear voice before plopping back down on the floor to continue playing.
Teacher Zhuang smiled as he shook his head lightly while stepping inside. In the living room, Lin Xiao Yu and Xiao Ting sat side by side on the sofa as if immersed in a tranquil sea of books, surrounded by an aroma of literature that seemed to weave a veil around them. Lin Xiao Yu was the first to notice Teacher Zhuang's presence; she snapped her book shut with a clap and hopped over with a bright smile and sweet voice introducing herself before cheerfully calling out: "Hello, Teacher Zhuang!"
Moments later, a chill crept in like a fierce little beast through the cracks in the walls. Lin Dongzhe shivered on the floor; his little face turned pale as his lips lost color from the cold. Unable to endure it any longer, he dashed like a gust of wind toward the Wu family’s home and dove into a warm blanket cocooned tightly around him except for his bright eyes peering out curiously.
Just then, Mr. and Mrs. Lin gently knocked on the Wu family's door. Teacher Zhuang opened it; both families exchanged smiles and pleasantries before Mr. and Mrs. Lin entered with Lin Dongzhe hiding under his blanket and Lin Xiao Yu engrossed in her reading. After they left, those gathered at Wu Family spoke highly of Mr. and Mrs. Lin for being friendly and easygoing companions.
However, Xiao Ting frowned and muttered: "I don’t want to play with Lin Dongzhe; he always gets everything dirty like a little mud monkey." Upon hearing this, Teacher Zhuang exchanged glances with her husband before reaching out gently to stroke Xiao Ting's hair while speaking softly: "Xiao Ting dear, everyone has strengths and weaknesses; we should be tolerant of each other as friends and treat one another kindly instead of saying such things about our companions." After listening to him, Xiao Ting nodded slightly in thought as if she had taken his words to heart.
