After parting ways with their mothers, Lin Dongzhe and Lin Xiao Yu officially embarked on their academic journeys. Xiao Ting and Lin Dongzhe found themselves on the same campus at National Chiao Tung University, where they frequently encountered each other. Before class, Lin Dongzhe often lingered near Xiao Ting's classroom, waiting for her to come out. When he spotted her, he would smile and approach, taking the books from her hands and saying, "Let’s go; the next class is far away. I’ll walk with you." Xiao Ting would respond with a gentle smile, "You’re so thoughtful." After class, they enjoyed sitting on a bench by the lake, sharing intriguing theories from their lectures and laughing at classmates' jokes. Their feelings for each other deepened in this slow but steady manner. In truth, every time they parted ways, Lin Dongzhe felt an emptiness when he returned to his dorm. While doing homework, his pen would often pause as thoughts of Xiao Ting’s smile and the way she spoke filled his mind. He wondered what she was doing at that moment and if she was eating well, eagerly anticipating their next meeting. Xiao Ting felt the same way; at night in her dorm, while organizing her notes, her thoughts would drift back to moments when Lin Dongzhe saved her a seat or handed her water. Her heart brimmed with longing as she secretly hoped to run into him on campus the next day.
Lu Zean and Lin Xiao Yu attended different schools that were only ten miles apart, but once academics got busy, that distance felt like a chasm. While studying in the campus library, Lu Zean flipped through pages of his book without absorbing a single word; his mind was filled with images of Lin Xiao Yu dancing gracefully. He wondered if she was practicing hard today and if she had missed meals due to rehearsals. Unable to help himself, he sighed and muttered, "Why is this week so long? I just want to see her soon."
As for Lin Xiao Yu, after finishing her classes for the day and freshening up in her dorm, she lay on her bed staring at the dark ceiling. The image of Lu Zean’s face danced before her eyes, and she could almost hear his hearty laughter when he shared amusing stories. Her heart felt like it was being gently scratched by a kitten; she missed him terribly and looked forward to rushing to his side over the weekend.
Finally, after a long wait for the weekend, Lu Zean woke up early and tidied himself up before heading to Lin Xiao Yu’s school. On the way there, his heart raced like a little rabbit—both excited and anxious—as he mentally rehearsed their meeting.
Lin Xiao Yu also waited eagerly at the school gate, her eyes fixed on the road ahead as she scanned every passing vehicle. The moment she spotted Lu Zean’s figure, her eyes instantly welled up with tears as she hurried towards him.
Lu Zean approached and took Lin Xiao Yu's hand tightly in his own, his voice slightly choked with emotion: "Lin Xiao Yu, I finally see you! This week has been so hard; I’ve been looking forward to today every day. I’ve been worried about how you’re doing—whether you’re too tired from practicing and if you’re eating well." Lin Xiao Yu's nose turned red as tears shimmered in her eyes; she squeezed his hand back: "I miss you too! I think about you during class breaks—remembering our outings together. This week has truly dragged on."
They strolled slowly along the street as Lu Zean kept asking: "How did rehearsals go this week?" Lin Xiao Yu replied with a smile: "Pretty well! Just a bit tiring, but now that I see you, I’m not tired at all. How about you? Are your studies busy?" Lu Zean shrugged: "Busy for sure! But just thinking about seeing you this weekend gives me all the motivation I need." Their conversation was filled with mutual concern and affection; though simple and straightforward, it was rich with emotion that warmed their hearts.
Lu Zean held Lin Xiao Yu’s hand tightly as if afraid that letting go would make her disappear. With an uncontrollable joy on his face, he said: "Lin Xiao Yu, let’s take a stroll in the park! You’ve been working hard with rehearsals; it’s perfect for some relaxation." Lin Xiao Yu’s eyes sparkled with anticipation as she nodded: "Sure! It’s been ages since I wandered around the park!"
