In a corner of the bustling city of Guangzhou, in a somewhat old factory, Lin Wufeng was like a steadfast screw, surrounded daily by the roar of machines, fully immersed in his busy work. Time slipped away quickly amidst the tension of labor and the sweat that flowed, leaving no trace behind.
Far away in Beijing, his daughter Lin Xiao Yu missed her father like spring vines that grow wildly, spreading ever more intensely. Every night, when the world fell silent, Lin Xiao Yu would often gaze out at the moon, her mind filled with thoughts of her father's kind face and warm embrace. Finally, during a brief moment of respite after a tiring day, Lin Wufeng managed to find a moment of peace and hurriedly called Lin Xiao Yu.
"Dad!" Lin Xiao Yu's voice carried a hint of surprise and grievance.
"Sweetheart, have you missed your dad?" Lin Wufeng asked lovingly.
"I have! When are you coming back?"
"Everything is fine here; you don't need to worry about me. When the next holiday comes, I will rush back to Beijing to see you. We can enjoy all the places you've been wanting to visit and spend some quality time together."
After ending the call with Lin Xiao Yu, a fleeting hint of fatigue and concern crossed Lin Wufeng's face, but he quickly adjusted his mood and dialed Song Ying's number. With a serious expression, he said, "Song Ying, Xiao Ting is like a woman in her last months of pregnancy; she’s becoming increasingly uncomfortable and needs careful attention. Please put in extra effort to take good care of her so that I can focus on my work without worry."
"Of course," Song Ying replied without hesitation. "You take care of yourself out there; don’t overwork yourself. You can rest easy knowing I’m here for her."
Meanwhile, in Shanghai, the focus was on Xiao Ting’s impending delivery. Lin Dongzhe was both excited and anxious as he meticulously arranged the nursery and selected the safest and most comfortable baby products. Every day he would talk to the baby in Xiao Ting's belly while closely monitoring her physical condition. He became extremely nervous at any sign of discomfort, fearing it might affect both the baby’s and Xiao Ting’s health.
"Dear, stop moving around so much; you're making me dizzy," Xiao Ting laughed.
"I'm just too excited!" Lin Dongzhe replied eagerly. "Do you think the baby will look more like you or more like me?"
"No matter who they resemble, they will definitely be adorable," Xiao Ting said gently as she stroked her belly.
Huang Ling was also busy in the kitchen preparing nutritious meals while reminding Xiao Ting, "Sweetheart, you need to eat more now so that the baby has enough strength to come out."
"Mom, I'm going to turn into a little pig at this rate," Xiao Ting teased.
After Song Ying brought over some soup, she chatted with Xiao Ting. "Xiao Ting, don’t be nervous. I’ve talked to many mothers who have given birth; they all say that as long as you relax..."
"I’m still a bit scared; I’ve heard giving birth is painful," Xiao Ting said with a slight frown.
"Don’t worry; medical science has advanced so much now, and we’ll be right there with you," Song Ying reassured her as she held Xiao Ting's hand.
Huang Ling was attentive to every detail; she prepared three meals a day for Xiao Ting based on nutritional guidelines while finding ways to make sure she enjoyed her food. She even accompanied Xiao Ting in prenatal yoga to relieve stress while patiently listening to her dreams for their future child and sharing her own parenting experiences, her eyes always reflecting endless love for both her daughter and soon-to-be grandchild. Song Ying was equally busy; she not only compiled detailed lists of various baby products but also shopped with Huang Ling and consulted professional postpartum caregivers for knowledge on how best to care for Xiao Ting. In her spare time, she would share cute stories about babies with Xiao Ting to cheer her up and gently stroke her belly to interact with the baby.
When Xiao Ting was wheeled into the delivery room, everyone’s hearts were in their throats. Lin Dongzhe paced anxiously outside like an ant on a hot pan, constantly listening for any sounds from within while hoping for a smooth delivery but worrying about how much pain Xiao Ting would endure. Huang Ling stood at the door with her eyes fixed on it, tightly holding onto postpartum supplements prepared for Xiao Ting while silently praying for their safety and eagerly anticipating seeing a healthy baby first.
Song Ying tried to soothe the visibly anxious Lin Dongzhe while keeping her own gaze fixed on the delivery room door, filled with concern for both Xiao Ting and the baby.
As soon as Xiao Ting entered the delivery room, the atmosphere became tense. Lin Dongzhe's face turned pale as he stared intently at the door, repeatedly murmuring encouragement: "Xiao Ting, hang in there! You can do it!"
Huang Ling stood nearby with her hands clasped together in prayer: "Heavenly Father, please bless my daughter and grandchild with safety."
Song Ying paced back and forth beside them occasionally glancing at the delivery room door while silently thinking: "We’ve prepared so much; everything should be fine. It has to be fine."
Inside the delivery room, Xiao Ting endured waves of intense pain as sweat soaked her hair. The doctor and nurses continuously encouraged her: "Push! Push! We can see the baby's head!"
Finally, a clear and loud cry from a newborn broke through the heavy silence. A nurse emerged holding the baby with a bright smile on her face: "Congratulations! It’s a lovely baby girl!"
Lin Dongzhe rushed forward, filled with excitement, unsure whether to look at the baby first or to check on Xiao Ting. He kept repeating, "So wonderful, so wonderful."
Huang Ling hurried over to see the baby. "Oh my, this little one is absolutely adorable, just like Xiao Ting when she was young."
Song Ying also let out a sigh of relief, smiling as she said, "All the hardships along the way have finally brought us this beautiful reward."
Lin Dongzhe's eyes glistened with tears of joy as he envisioned the future of accompanying his daughter as she grew up, reflecting on the struggles Xiao Ting had endured. Huang Ling was overwhelmed with happiness, murmuring about her precious granddaughter while already planning to make little clothes and shoes for the child. Song Ying also felt relieved, her face glowing with a satisfied smile as she began to think about how to assist Xiao Ting with postpartum recovery and taking care of the baby.
The child was named Lin Xinyi, carrying the love and hopes of the entire family. Surrounded by their care and affection, she embarked on her brand new journey in life.
