Chang Guadi went to the front door to test the tensile strength of the fishing line, attracting a crowd of people who came to claim their free Line Setup. Shi Tian, having just finished setting up his line and feeling bored, decided to see what all the fuss was about.
As more and more people gathered, Shi Tian wondered if so many in the group would really come just to support a fishing line demonstration. The crowd at the shop's entrance caught Shi Ye's attention as well. With the new store opening, was someone causing trouble?
Quickly reeling in his rod and picking up a brick from the roadside, Shi Ye rushed over. The Fishing Tackle Shop was under renovation, and with the construction of the Fishing Spot across the street, there was no shortage of bricks around. If a fight broke out, he naturally chose one that was easy to handle.
Shi Ye shouted loudly at the three people approaching with their hands behind their backs, startling Chang Guadi so much that he finally snapped his fishing line, causing the brick tied to it to drop right on his foot.
"Ouch!"
The brick hitting his foot didn’t hurt much; it was just that there weren’t enough of them to cause real pain. However, Chang Guadi had tied a brick to his fishing line, and that weight was definitely sufficient. He estimated he would be limping for a few days after this!
When tying the brick, he had worried that the sharp edges might cut through the line, so he had padded it with gloves; otherwise, he might have lost a toenail.
"We're testing the tensile strength of the fishing line! Why are you shouting so loudly?" After grumbling at Shi Ye, Chang Guadi finally noticed the brick Shi Ye was holding high above his head.
"What do you want?!" Seeing the three men holding bricks aloft made Chang Guadi momentarily lose his ability to speak coherently.
At Shi Ye's sudden shout, those nearby immediately scattered. Some even quietly slipped away toward the road in front of the shop, preferring to keep their distance from any potential trouble.
This wasn’t cowardice; rather, in the current security climate in China, encountering bricks on the street could be considered a weapon of mass destruction—less likely than seeing an American-style landing net from White Eagle.
"We saw you testing your fishing line’s strength and came to deliver bricks!" Shi Ye, being someone who had traveled extensively from north to south, set down the brick and said it without batting an eye.
Before Chang Guadi could respond, Air Force chimed in: "Your testing method is wrong! Who holds it up like that? Get a net! Tie your fishing line to it and slowly add bricks piece by piece into the net; that's how it's done!"
"Don’t pull back your rod either; use it as a crossbeam. You two are tall—come hold up the rod while I tie the fishing line. Once I’ve tied it on, you can start adding bricks into the net!" Lu Ya took charge while busying himself with a net from one of the Fishing Buddies.
Chang Guadi was left dumbfounded. What were these three doing? He was still nursing his injured foot while they didn’t even apologize but instead directed others to continue testing the fishing line’s strength.
Testing fishing line strength also required skill in tying knots. The tensile strength of nylon line is five kilograms; if one doesn’t know how to tie knots properly and uses regular knots for fishing lines, it might only hold up to three kilograms at best.
Whether tying hooks or securing Eight-shaped Rings or Fish Hooks at rod tips, as well as sub-line knots and octets—all required technique.
While Chang Guadi continued to comfort his injured left foot, Lu Ya led others in adding bricks into the net. One by one, they piled them on while everyone watched with great interest.
Although Shi Tian’s fishing line was sturdy, it had its limits due to its diameter. When they added the eighth brick, the fishing line could no longer bear the weight and snapped with a loud crack. The woven strands of the net were flattened under the weight, causing Bro—who had been holding onto it—to wince in sympathy.
"Who has the Control Fish Tool? The one with the scale, let's weigh these bricks!"
As Shi Ye spoke, some people had already started rummaging through the Fishing Box. They brought out the Control Fish Tool and weighed it along with the Net, coming in at nearly ten kilograms.
A group of people were weighing the bricks when Shi Ye glanced at Chang Guadi, who was still sitting behind the crowd with his legs crossed. He nudged Air Force and Lu Ya, and the three quietly slipped away from the crowd. They took off their shirts and returned to the Fishing Spot to continue their rock fishing.
The line could lift nearly ten kilograms and had excellent elasticity, which made the onlooking Fishing Buddies envious.
"Boss, what kind of line is that outside? Give me a spool!" After bypassing the obstructive Chang Guadi, Shi Tian was pushed back into the Fishing Tackle Shop by a group of Fishing Buddies eager to grab some line.
Shi Tian could tell that these people were new faces; he had definitely never seen them before and hadn’t given them any Fish Hooks. However, he couldn’t figure out where they had come from.
"Ten bucks for a hundred meters, forty for five hundred meters. New store opening, shopping comes with a Fish Hook and a Line Setup!" Although these people weren’t from his usual crowd, he still had to give away the Line Setup as promised.
The Line Setup wasn’t expensive; it only cost a few bucks. These people were clearly drawn in by the Line Setup, and not giving it away could easily lead to disputes. It would be bad luck to argue with customers on the first day of opening.
With a new store opening, there needed to be some strategy involved. How could they retain customers? How could they encourage past visitors to bring in new ones? There had to be a compelling reason for them to return.
What reason? This spool of line was like fish bait for fishing enthusiasts. Selling this quality line for fifty bucks would be a fair price! Selling it for a hundred would also be reasonable! But selling it for ten bucks made them feel like they were getting a huge bargain.
One person getting a deal wasn’t enough; they would bring their families along to snag some bargains too. As they picked up deals, they would inevitably buy other items as well.
"Is this line the same as what’s outside?" Without haggling, several Fishing Buddies rushed in only concerned about the quality of the fishing line.
A spool of line costing just a few bucks wouldn’t see much of a discount even if they tried to haggle; after all, fishing line prices were transparent.
"Let’s get one spool of that line and one each of those!" They said as they pulled out their phones to scan for payment.
With the QR Code payment prompt chiming at ten yuan, another big sale was made.
The customers paid promptly, and Shi Tian was generous too; he gave them two sets from Number Two Sleeve Hook size five Ise Nii and Shi Tianyi.
After sending off this group of customers, Shi Tian began calculating his earnings from this wave of sales.
