The spring water was no different from ordinary spring water; compared to tap water, it was merely more natural, perhaps with a hint of minerals, making it suitable for brewing tea.
For now, Nong Zi couldn't unlock as many things as Yu Zi could. According to the hints from Rogue Software, to unlock more items in the Nong Zi Menu, certain achievements in Fishing needed to be accomplished first. However, there were no restrictions on making dishes; this aspect was completely free. Just like with the Fish Hook, creating dishes didn't require any accumulated points, which made Shi Tian happy. Perhaps he could prepare some dishes in advance and earn some Nong Zi points.
At this moment, the Nong Zi Menu didn't hold much value for Shi Tian. A mountain spring couldn't be decorated in the yard; any decoration would have to be done on the mountain behind. As for dishes, he had a complete set at home, still from Eighteen Sons. He found them convenient and had no plans to change them for now. With the Fishing Tackle Shop open, he certainly couldn't open another restaurant!
However, he could try making a set of dishes later that evening. For now, he could only use the Fishing Box to prepare them. The Nong Zi Menu would only officially open once the Fishing Menu was upgraded to a sufficient level.
Today, he didn't deliver any Line Setups, and the shop felt quite empty. It was barely seven when they opened, and now it was past eight with only a few Fishing Buddies coming in to buy some live bait before heading off to Dao Wan Reef. This sudden quietness was something Shi Tian wasn't used to after a day of bustling activity.
Shi Tian calculated that if he delivered Line Setups every day, it would yield decent returns for him—at least he wouldn't incur losses and might even make a small profit. But this wasn't a long-term strategy; if he kept delivering for ten days or half a month, Line Setups would become commonplace and lose all value.
If Shi Tian distributed that many Line Setups, nearby Fishing Tackle Shops would be out of business for at least a year; selling no Line Setups during that time would disrupt the market, something he wouldn't do. Otherwise, he'd end up creating numerous competitors for himself unnecessarily.
Around nine o'clock, Chang Guadi arrived. He must have been fishing at Dao Wan all morning before coming over.
"Do you still have those shrimp from yesterday? Weigh me some; I'm going over there to fish!" Chang Guadi shouted at Shi Tian before even stepping inside.
"Yes, but today they're back to their original price—ten May Day per pound! We have Small Shrimp today; they're cheaper. Want some Small Shrimp instead?" It was currently the season for Live Shrimp, so prices were lower. If they went up for another couple of months, they might reach forty dollars per pound.
In three or four months, shrimp prices would rise even further—potentially reaching over a hundred dollars per pound.
"Small shrimp are good for Xiao Yu fishing; big shrimp are for Fishing for Big Fish. If you mess around with your Fish Bait, the fish will mess around with you!" Chang Guadi said as he turned to scan his code. "The Fishing Tackle Shop can't operate from nine to five; many people rush to Zao Kou. If you don't open here, you'll miss out on many opportunities!"
Shi Tian understood what Chang Guadi meant about Zao Kou timing. If he could open by five in the morning and sell some Fish Bait during that time, he'd cover his shop's rent easily.
"I've got some things going on these days; I’ll open early by the day after tomorrow or at the latest by the day after that! Once I’m done with my tasks, I’ll open at five in the morning and stay open until ten at night!" After weighing out the shrimp for Chang Guadi, Shi Tian casually promised.
Shi Ye and his group were leaving the day after tomorrow; once they were gone, he'd have more freedom.
Shi Tian feared Yun Wan'er at home and worried about Shi Ye when he went to Sanya. That fear ran deep within him—instilled since childhood!
Holding onto the shrimp, Chang Guadi headed straight across the road to the Fishing Spot. Yesterday his group had a great catch there; today without them around, it was his territory!
With no one in the shop, Shi Tian grabbed a stool and sat outside watching Chang Guadi cast his line repeatedly. Although no fish were biting, watching someone fish was entertaining in its own right.
The Fishing Spot Lu Ya had been quite thoughtfully constructed; although there were no trees across the road where they wanted to build it up as a fishing area, that land belonged collectively to the villagers. To develop that area into a Fishing Spot would require negotiations with the village authorities first.
The barren land in front of the door stretches two hundred meters from north to south. The ten Fishing Spots at Ishi no Shu only occupy about one hundred meters, but the entire two hundred meters of wasteland must be contracted together. Originally, Shi Ye had promised that the southern one hundred meters would be developed into a Viewing Platform for the village, while the northern one hundred meters would be used to build his private Fishing Spot. However, there were hardly any tourists in this area, and the village believed that a Viewing Platform would be useless. Moreover, since it was far from the village, the villagers were unlikely to come here to use it as a square.
With this plan falling through, Shi Ye proposed another scheme: to construct a small fishing dock exclusively for the village and then exchange the northern one hundred meters of land to build a Fishing Spot. Unfortunately, fishing boats were not allowed to dock here, and most of the young people from the village had moved to the city; there were only a few elderly folks left who went out to sea. This plan also hit a dead end.
In the end, they had no choice but to pay for a fifty-year lease on this beach under the guise of aquaculture, with a written guarantee that it could not be used for farming. All this was just to build these ten Fishing Spots! The rental fee for good tidal flats was not high, and with money paving the way, a few villagers discussed it and agreed on the deal.
Now these ten Fishing Spots belonged to Shi Tian as his private Fishing Spots, including the entire two hundred meters of beach, which also became his private territory. However, Shi Tian did not intend to charge for access to these Fishing Spots; he simply left them as they were. Anyone who wanted to fish could come and do so, and if someone displeased him, he would just chase them away!
After more than forty minutes had passed, Chang Guadi finally caught a fish. Judging by how hard the Rod was pulling, it seemed to be quite a big one. Since he had hooked a fish, Shi Tian naturally went over to help. He returned to the shop to grab a Ping Net, only to discover that the old man had taken them all away.
The night before, during restocking, Shi Tian had made two Ping Nets in both large and small sizes—one was displayed as a Sample while the other remained in its Packaging. Because there were so few Ping Nets left, not only did the old man take away the one still in Packaging, but he also swiped the Sample! That old man must have been coming for supplies!
With no Ping Nets available in the shop, Shi Tian figured Chang Guadi must have some on his side. He rushed over to help Chang Guadi assemble a Ping Net while the fish on the Rod still hadn’t shown itself!
After some effort, they finally managed to haul up a Sea Wolf weighing over twenty pounds. Its long and slender body made it appear particularly large.
“See? I told you that if you don’t use proper Bait on fish, they won’t bite! You still need to sell those big shrimp in your shop; fishermen won’t settle for subpar Bait!” Chang Guadi admonished Shi Tian.
After giving Shi Tian this advice, Chang Guadi shoved his phone into Shi Tian's hands and held up the fish with a Control Fish Tool, deliberately turning it so that the scale faced outward. “Quick! Take a picture for me; I want to post it in our group!”
The two took turns snapping photos until Yu Hu jumped into the water. Reluctantly, Shi Tian ran back to check on the shop. Just as he was about to post the earlier photos in their group chat to liven up the atmosphere, he discovered that Chang Guadi had already shared them!
