I truly envy all of you who have the time to go fishing whenever you want. As a working dog, I can't afford such luxuries!
Do working people feel stifled? Your job sounds pretty miserable. Whenever I catch a big fish, I drag my boss along to fish too. Not only do I get a ride, but my boss also pays for the meals! Hurry up and send me the coordinates; I'm on my way!
Where can I find such a good boss? I want to switch jobs! Quickly send the coordinates!
A good boss isn’t something you just find; it’s something you cultivate! It took me half a year to train my boss to be a Fisherman! A worker who can’t cultivate their boss has no future!
Watching the group of jokers entertain themselves, Shi Tian leaned back in his chair at the counter, wanting to join in. At the very least, he could share the Fishing Spot; perhaps it would attract some business.
He opened his location and sent out the coordinates, only to realize that his Xing Xing Fishing Tackle Shop wasn’t even marked on the map! After clicking to add it and struggling for half an hour uploading various documents and verifications, he finally managed to get the Fishing Tackle Shop added to the map. Chang Guadi had already sent the coordinates to the group!
Well then, no need to send my location anymore. I’ll just download each map individually and ensure that the Fishing Tackle Shop is listed on all major maps! This way, at least those visiting Fishing Buddies will know there’s a Fishing Tackle Shop here.
The two storefronts next door were still unoccupied, while the ones further down were owned by the landlord himself, who ran a Gold Shop. Since it was his own property, he was quite reasonable with prices, making his Gold Shop dominate all hardware business in town. A couple of years ago, there was another Gold Shop in town, but it eventually went out of business due to competition from the landlord.
In this town, hardware businesses don’t have high requirements for storefronts, but there are relatively fewer other shops.
By noon, Shi Tian closed up shop and drove his Electric Mini into town. There was a sizable vegetable market in town, and today’s sales were lackluster; he couldn’t afford to splurge on takeout anymore. He needed to buy some ingredients at the market and cook for himself.
Cooking wasn’t just about saving money; more importantly, he found takeout flavors quite disappointing—too reliant on seasoning—which was hard for someone used to dining at upscale hotels in villa districts and his own cooking.
He found the stall that supplied Live Shrimp to his shop and approached Old Zhao, who was busy with customers. “What’s the price for Spicy Stir-Fried Clams?”
“Six bucks!” Old Zhao replied without looking up as he weighed some oysters for another customer. When he finally noticed Shi Tian, he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and offered it to him. “If you’re not fishing today, go for the clams instead; they’re cheaper. I can give you four fifty a pound for those little ones!”
There weren’t many tourists here; most shoppers were local residents who found prices here much cheaper than in the City.
Using shellfish for sea fishing wasn’t a bad option either, but it paled in comparison to Live Shrimp. Reef fishermen wouldn’t buy shellfish since they could easily collect them from rocks without spending money.
Who would buy this stuff for fishing? There’s plenty by the seaside! If you need some, just dive in and grab a few! I’m buying them for myself; weigh me three pounds! Shi Tian sighed as he paid through his phone.
Alright! I’ll pick out some with more meat!
After wandering around the market, Shi Tian returned to his shop with over three pounds of Spicy Stir-Fried Clams, two buns, and a bunch of seasonings.
The building had a kitchen—one bedroom, one living room, one kitchen, and one bathroom—and when they renovated the shop, they also tidied up the living space. Cooking here wasn’t an issue; he had everything he needed.
Pour the Spicy Stir-Fried Clams into a basin and wash them thoroughly, filling it with half a basin of water and adding a few drops of sesame oil, allowing the clams to spit out sand. Shi Tian continued to return to the store to keep an eye on things. The clams needed at least an hour to expel all the sand, and even if business was slow, he had to stay vigilant.
Sitting at the entrance of the store, Shi Tian watched a few people fishing under the blazing sun across the street. He couldn't help but admire them. On such a hot day, without even an umbrella, they sat by the sea. For ordinary folks, spending a whole day like that would leave their skin peeling off. Perhaps these people were used to the sun; their skin was tough and thick as they braved the heat, worried that a fish might pull their line away while they wiped their sweat.
Shui Bi Zhang arrived, and as he had mentioned, his boss was brought along too, along with several fishing buddies from their group. Almost all ten fishing spots had been claimed. The fish bite here today was indeed good; although no big catches were coming in, Black Sea Bream and other fish were being pulled up now and then, driving everyone into a frenzy.
Watching the group catch fish one after another made Shi Tian head back into the store to prepare his Spicy Stir-Fried Clams; otherwise, it would be too frustrating to watch! He fished out the clams, rinsed them clean, and blanched them in boiling water for four or five seconds before quickly removing them before they could open up. Heating oil in a wok, he added minced scallions and ginger along with some garlic, frying until fragrant before tossing in the Spicy Stir-Fried Clams.
After stirring for a bit, he added some soy sauce to enhance the aroma. Once the water from the clams started to bubble out, he seasoned it with salt and sugar. Stirring well, he covered the wok and let it simmer for about half a minute until all the clams opened up. He added a splash of dark soy sauce for color.
Stirring everything together, he thickened the sauce with cornstarch slurry and garnished it with chives before drizzling in some chili oil. A few more stirs later, it was ready to serve!
Holding the finished Spicy Stir-Fried Clams, he grabbed two steamed buns and a can of beer as he headed downstairs to eat lunch behind the counter; it was already two in the afternoon!
Just after taking a few bites, Chang Guadi stormed into the store with two broken fishing rods in hand, visibly furious.
Seeing Chang Guadi's demeanor made Shi Tian's eyes light up—big business was coming! Without waiting for him to speak, Shi Tian put down his chopsticks from Xia Shou and laughed: "Wow! Caught a big fish! Did your rod break? How much did it weigh?"
Hearing this, Chang Guadi's face darkened.
Big fish? It was just a small Shi Ban, not even as big as that Sea Wolf from earlier! He had planned to reel it in smoothly but ended up breaking his rod instead! After grumbling about it, Chang Guadi's gaze shifted towards the shelf where fishing rods were displayed.
