The method Shi Tian mentioned was called "front casting." Rods range from one hundred to three hundred dollars; just equip it with an octagonal reel and you're good to go—one wheel costs around twenty or thirty dollars without needing any floats.
However, front casting isn't suitable for Reef Fishing; it's better for docks and fishing rafts where you can actually catch something.
Hearing about the cheaper option made Uncle Zhang somewhat tempted. After all, spending over a thousand dollars on equipment before even catching a single fish felt painful.
Could a four-hundred-dollar rod really work? To catch fish over ten pounds would likely require a rod costing at least over a thousand! Taking the rod from Uncle Zhang's hands, Shui Bi Zhang's owner questioned its efficacy.
Ten-pound fish are rarely encountered by the sea; typically, such catches require Boat Rods which are naturally much more expensive than ordinary rods!
A decent set of Boat Rods can easily cost several thousand dollars; higher-end ones can even reach tens of thousands. Add in an Electric Reel and set up with hundreds of meters of line—altogether it would easily exceed twenty thousand dollars.
Of course, when it comes to sea fishing for sea bass, a rod that costs three to four thousand yuan, along with a reel, is more than sufficient. But once you're out at sea, how can a few largemouth bass satisfy a fisherman's appetite? Who doesn't want to catch something big?
A ten-kilogram fish? As long as you don't plan on flying it, this rod is more than enough! Shui Laoban glanced at Shi Tian and couldn't help but roll his eyes.

After saying that, he pulled out two spools of line and one spool of lead weight and float. Once everything was ready, Shi Tian handed over a bag of bait shrimp—at least several dozen.
Shui Laoban's skills were quite impressive; right in front of Shi Tian, he spooled the line onto the reel in one smooth motion and set up the line. He eagerly grabbed the rod and rushed out to cast it across the way.
However, just as he reached the door, he quickly turned back to pull out his phone. He scanned the code to pay for those live shrimp that Shui Bi Zhang had weighed out. Only then did they both run across the street!
Watching their backs, Uncle Zhang rubbed his nose: "If you're going fishing, go for big fish! What's the point of catching small ones? It's like feeding cats! Give me a setup just like his, but you have to tie the line for me—I can't tie that stuff!"
Selling two rods in one day was not bad business!
"Alright, just wait a moment; I'll get everything ready for you!" Shi Tian said while preparing a net for when Uncle Zhang needed to scoop up big fish. "But don’t mention it outside; otherwise, if they come asking me for nets later, I’ll be at a loss!"
He picked up another ISO rod and reel while setting up the line. "Don't mention it outside; I’ll just say I bought it!" Uncle Zhang replied with a grin as they exchanged knowing smiles. He was already envisioning the scene of battling with big fish!
