A few people were quick on their feet, scooping shrimp and weighing them themselves. If they needed anything, they would report the model number, and after selecting their items, they would scan the code. By the time Shi Tian was ready to send them off, all that remained was a flickering light dancing in the darkness as night fell.
Now that’s what I call professionalism! Shi Tian couldn’t help but sigh. Just then, he noticed another light approaching from the direction of the town, stopping right in front of his shop.
As the person got out of the car, Shi Tian recognized Shui Bi Zhang had arrived again!
What’s up? Coming to set up again? He stepped forward and handed Shui Bi Zhang a cigarette, smiling as he asked.
Set up? Not today! My boss called me at three in the morning to go fishing; he should be here soon!
Saying this, Shui Bi Zhang glanced towards the town and, seeing no headlights, chuckled: Setting up is a skill. We won’t do it today, but I’ll have to get up early tomorrow to set up.
It would be great if he could catch a big fish tomorrow. If he managed to unhook it afterward, that would be even better—at least a week off work! He figured he would stay here and battle it out with the fish that got away!
Hearing this, Shi Tian could only shake his head helplessly. He wasn’t counting on having someone like Shui Bi Zhang as an employee; he simply couldn’t manage him!
With your way of doing things, your company will be ruined sooner or later! He laughed and scolded while helping Shui Bi Zhang move his gear to the fishing spot before letting him park his car in a non-intrusive spot.
Before Shui Bi Zhang had even set up his fishing spot, Shui Laoban’s car arrived. Shi Tian didn’t help with Shui Laoban’s fishing gear; he thought it better to leave that opportunity for Shui Bi Zhang.
Boss, can you weigh me two pounds of live shrimp? Do you have binoculars here? It’s tiring on the eyes watching the bobber from so far away! After setting up his fishing gear, Shui Laoban turned to Shi Tian and asked.
Binoculars? We actually don’t have those! Besides, is it reliable to fish with binoculars?
No binoculars, but before dawn, it’s fine to cast far; the bobber has a light so you can see it clearly. Once it gets light out, you can switch to a smaller bobber for bottom fishing and then use a rod for closer spots!
As he spoke, Shi Tian went back into the shop to weigh the shrimp for them.
Shi Tian’s fishing skills were also mediocre; he was not much better than Uncle Zhang. Just like two days ago when Shui Bi Zhang and the others arrived, they first searched along the edges before gradually casting further out; this was something he had just learned.
However, yesterday Shui Bi Zhang had already set up a spot fifty meters out. The three of them were catching well there, so they didn’t search along the edges and went straight for that fifty-meter mark instead; their results were still good.
Switching from an ISO rod to a smaller bobber made it into a sea rod—this was something he learned online yesterday.
Compared to a sea rod, using a small bobber made it less likely to snag on the bottom. The seaside had many rocks that gathered fish; if you didn’t snag on the bottom, catching bottom-dwelling fish was still quite good!
Hearing this from Shi Tian, Shui Laoban followed closely behind him to ask questions.
There was no way he wouldn’t cast at fifty meters. Even though his eyes might suffer a bit, the fishing conditions were just too good!
After helping Shui Laoban weigh out his live shrimp and selecting a small bobber for him, Shi Tian sent him off. The shadowy rider had already followed him into the shop!
Get me a fishing rod; I want to try fishing for a bit! How much is it? Is this easy to learn? The rider stood at the counter and asked Shi Tian intently.
The rod is four hundred; the reel is one hundred. I’ll throw in some line and hooks and give you some live shrimp too! After quoting the price, Shi Tian chuckled: Fishing is easy to learn but hard to master. Just two days ago an old man picked up a rod and caught a big fish after only ten minutes of practice!
The rod in Shi Tian's shop was quite unfriendly for beginners, especially for Reef Fishing, where the starting cost was in the four-digit range—something most people couldn't easily afford.
He pulled out his wallet and counted out ten large bills, handing them to Shi Tian. Rider perked up at the sound, glancing over at Shui Bi Zhang and Shui Laoban across the way. Shui Laoban had already caught a fish, demonstrating impressive efficiency!
Looking at the ten bills on the counter, Shi Tian felt a bit unfamiliar; even after several days of running the shop, it was his first time receiving cash.
After retrieving a rod and reel, Shi Tian patiently guided Rider through threading the line and tying hooks, adjusting the float, and even provided him with half a pound of Live Shrimp before leading him to cast a line across the way, teaching him how to throw it properly.
Once the beginner's tutorial was over, Shi Tian handed the rod to Rider and hurried back into the shop as new customers arrived. Although they were only buying small items like Live Shrimp and Line Setup, providing service was essential.
At five in the morning, Uncle Zhang's lights flickered on. Ten minutes later, they went out again.
Just as he finished with a customer in the shop, he heard a knock at the back door. Shi Tian quickly opened it.
"Quick! Give me half a pound of Live Shrimp! I need to cast a few lines before opening the shop!" Seeing Uncle Zhang enter through the back door carrying a Fish Bucket and Rod made Shi Tian speechless.
"Why come in through the back when there's a perfectly good front door?" he grumbled while weighing out the Live Shrimp for Uncle Zhang. It was quite startling to be knocked on at this hour!
"It's too much trouble to open the front door; it's noisy and not as convenient as using the back," Uncle Zhang explained hastily. "Hurry up with those shrimp! I just saw Lao Shui upstairs; he caught a big fish—over three pounds of Black Sea Bream!"
Shi Tian quickly scooped some shrimp for Uncle Zhang and handed them over. "Here, take these; they should last you all morning. Once the shop opens, you can come back for more. Otherwise, Aunt Zhang might throw your Rod into Hai Li!"
As he passed the shrimp to Uncle Zhang, Shi Tian chuckled. "Uncle Zhang, is there still space in the backyard? Can I park my car there later? It’s quite big and might block the road if left outside."
The backyard wasn't large, but Uncle Zhang had set up a shed there for various items, leaving plenty of space available. His vehicle was parked in there too, with ample room for maneuvering.
Today he had driven Shi Ye's SUV over; it wasn't like an Electric Mini that could fit anywhere without issue.
"Just get yourself a key for the City so you can park your car in the backyard from now on; there's plenty of room!" With that, Uncle Zhang took off toward the Fishing Spot with his Live Shrimp. Halfway there, he remembered to press a button on his waist to open the large gate to the yard.
The backyard gate was electric and required a remote control key; it couldn't be duplicated in town.
Even if it could be done in town, Uncle Zhang surely wouldn't help him with it. A remote key would cost two hundred yuan—enough money to buy several pounds of Live Shrimp instead, which could catch quite a few big fish!
Taking advantage of the lull in customers at his shop, Shi Tian quickly parked his car in the backyard. When he returned inside, new customers had arrived again but unfortunately only purchased two boxes of Sandworm.
In reality, Sandworm wasn't cheap either; red Sandworm was significantly pricier than green Sandworm—often costing over ten yuan per box—and sometimes even reaching two or three times that amount per box!
