"Xiaoxue, they're having a gathering later, you should join us!" Shi Tian said to Su Xueyi, who was busy behind the counter.
"No, I'll just order takeout," Su Xueyi shook her head at the mention of the gathering.
That made sense; it wouldn’t be convenient for a young girl to join a bunch of men for dinner. "I'll bring you some food later. I'm taking them to the second floor to eat!"
The second floor had a small living room and kitchen. Although the living room wasn't large, it was much more spacious than the shop below, which would save them from making a mess that would be troublesome to clean up.
After lunch, Shi Tian still didn’t have time to go fishing. He had planned to go to the city to get a key made yesterday but hadn’t gone. Now that he had some time, he decided to make a trip to the city.
He picked up the main door key from Old Zhang and left the few people who were still drinking behind. Shi Tian drove directly to the city.
In Sanya, there’s no such thing as a lunch rush; with temperatures soaring between thirty and forty degrees Celsius, people were reluctant to go outside, and there were fewer cars on the road.
After getting the key made, it was already past two in the afternoon when he finally arrived at the fishing spot.
"Xiaoxue, here’s a key for the shop. You can lock up when you go out for lunch!" Shi Tian handed Su Xueyi a spare key he had just made and tied it together with the main door key before heading across the street.
Old Zhang and the others had already started fishing. Not wanting to fall behind, Shi Tian set up his gear and cast his rod. This time, however, he found himself frustrated!
Earlier in the morning, he had mocked Chang Guadi for being weak; now it was his turn to struggle.
The quality of Air Force rods was undeniable; they could cast much farther than those available in the shop. The Iso Rod wasn’t designed for long casts like the Sea Rods; while a Sea Rod could easily cast sixty or seventy meters with a Five Meter Four model, the Iso Rod was different. It was softer and loaded with various attachments, and when he cast it out, he barely reached forty meters!
"What’s wrong? Can’t handle it at such a young age? You need to pace yourself tonight!" Chang Guadi wouldn’t let this opportunity slip by!
He had just spent a fortune on a new wheel at the shop and was feeling quite stingy about it. Now he could cast as far as Shui Laoban and his friends; seeing Shi Tian struggling made him eager to show off!
Glancing sideways at Chang Guadi, Shi Tian angrily reeled in his line. "I run a shop selling fishing gear; how can I not have rods?"
"Xiaoxue, get me an Iso Rod of five Mi San length with a number three rod setup. For line setup, use nylon main line paired with carbon line leader; I need one hundred fifty meters of main line with big hooks and Abo!" Shi Tian pulled out his phone and directly asked Su Xueyi to prepare an Iso Rod for him.
The Iso Rod wasn’t suitable for using Dali Ma as the main line since Dali Ma was too soft and prone to tangling. The only rods that could use Dali Ma as main lines were Lure and Boat Rods. Lure rods couldn’t use nylon lines because nylon has elasticity, making bite signals less clear; thus, Lure rods must use non-elastic Dali Ma lines.
The larger the wheel model, the wider its spool would be, allowing for more line capacity.
Rock fishing typically used numbered wheels because they didn’t require much line due to short casts; combined with thin lines, numbered wheels were sufficient. However, Old Zhang and his friends chose thicker lines for longer casts, so they used wheels rated above number specifications.
Carbon lines have lower tensile strength but are resistant to abrasion and bites; they work well as leaders but should be selected in larger sizes—generally about twice that of nylon lines—and if using Dali Ma, you’d need to add a bit more.
The leader for boat fishing is no longer the Carbon Line; instead, it's directly tied to steel wire. Even if a shark bites, there's nothing to fear!
He had Su Xueyi help him set up the Rod while Shi Tian reeled in the line, starting to search along the edges with the Rod. If they couldn't cast far, surely searching closer to them wouldn't be a problem! Despite not having fished for a long time, he hadn't been idle; he had learned quite a bit online and was ready to put it into practice!
Watching Shi Tian wander aimlessly along the Fishing Platform, Sun Lang got up and said, "What are you wandering about for? Come over and help me check the Rod while I go grab a Fish Bucket from the shop! We've been fishing for two days now and still don't have a Fish Bucket. The fish we've caught are starting to spoil in the sun!"
He shoved his Rod into Shi Tian's hands, reeled in Shi Tian's line, and dashed off to the shop.
The fishing conditions today were still decent, and the tide was beginning to rise. Earlier, when they started fishing, Shui Bi Zhang had brought out his high-tech remote-controlled boat to spread some Wo Liao. Now was prime time for catching fish.
Shi Tian shot Sun Lang an exasperated glance and shook his head. To sell just one Fish Bucket, he could only silently guard the Rod for Sun Lang.
In less than ten minutes, Shui Laoban's Rod had a bite. The fish didn't seem too big but was aggressive in its feeding, quickly pulling on the line. According to Reef Fishing rules, after hooking a fish, one should reel it in quickly—never let it dive into the rocky crevices or it would mean losing the line!
With a sudden lift of his rod, he reeled in over ten meters of line. The fish struggled harder and harder, sending Shui Laoban's adrenaline soaring.
Watching Shui Laoban drag the fish back and forth while it thrashed wildly in the water, Old Zhang and Shui Bi Zhang could only shake their heads helplessly. They quickly reeled in their lines to avoid tangling.
Tangled lines are one of a Fisherman's greatest enemies; once entangled with another Fishing Buddy's line, the chance of losing a fish skyrockets!
If it's someone unfamiliar as a Fishing Buddy, they might not understand this; however, if they know each other well enough, once someone hooks a big fish, those nearby usually reel in their lines to give space for fighting the fish—especially important when boat fishing.
"Take it easy; reel it in slowly so you don't snap the line!" Chang Guadi warned as he watched Shui Laoban frantically cranking the reel.
Even if it wasn't large, judging by its strength, it was still around five or six pounds and exceptionally lively. This kind of fish should be handled carefully to wear it out gradually before bringing it closer to shore.
The fish wasn't huge; otherwise, he wouldn't be able to reel it in at all—it was just particularly vigorous. After a few minutes, the fish was already about ten meters from shore. With less line out now, Shui Laoban slowed down his reeling; there was no longer any fear of it diving into rocky holes!
Just as this was happening, Sun Lang arrived with his Fish Bucket in hand. He glanced at the splashing water caused by the fish and exclaimed, "What kind of fish is this? It must weigh at least five or six pounds!"
Shi Tian shot Sun Lang an incredulous look and handed him the Rod saying, "Five pounds? If this fish weighs five pounds, I'll eat it raw!"
