A fish was hooked, and Shi Tian quickly pulled out his phone to check the Points. He scrolled through the records but couldn’t find any Points information for Pahdi Hu. This was not good!
However, Shi Tian noticed a record for a worm. Did worms also have Points? Could he exploit this? After thinking it over, he decisively abandoned the idea; he could slowly accumulate Points without trying to cheat. If he got caught by Rogue Software, they might patch this loophole in the future!
Pahdi Hu was too small? Then he would go for the larger Xia Shou! He baited the hook with a worm and this time aimed for a Ma Kou. The intelligence of Ma Kou, Qiao Zui, and Carp was clearly a notch above that of Pahdi Hu. After teasing for nearly five minutes, he finally reeled in a Ma Kou and hurriedly checked the Points record again.
Still no Points recorded! It seemed impossible to earn double Points from a single fish! Rogue Software was quite the rogue!
Thinking of the worm, Shi Tian seriously fished out a small Grass Shrimp from the nearby tank, casually hooked it, and tossed it back into the water. After a long wait, no fish came to bite. The fish in the tank were too small; it was unlikely they would go after this shrimp.
After some time, he took the shrimp off and tossed it into the trash can. Shi Tian opened the Points record once more and found that there were indeed Points for the shrimp!
Instead of trying to cheat, if he wanted to earn Points, he had to rely on his tools like Xia Shou! Today’s Points income had been quite impressive; after two days of warmth and a full day of fishing with his friends, plus some effort from Old Gao’s side, his total Points had exceeded five thousand.
With these five thousand Points, he could allocate one thousand to supply Old Gao, restocking the shop would cost several hundred more, and then he could use the remaining Points to cover his losses!
The old man had been ruthless; what he had scavenged when he left still hadn’t been sorted out until now. Finally, he could fill this hole!
Without external debts, he could focus entirely on training his tools. This was something he needed to consult Shui Bi Zhang about sometime! That guy was tough; if he could train a boss, training a tool would be as easy as pie!
Su Xueyi had classes tomorrow and the day after; even on Friday she had classes. She would have some free time on Friday afternoon, but asking her to come in for just a few hours wouldn’t be worth all the back-and-forth hassle!
After getting home, Shi Tian lay in bed contemplating his tool plan; things were starting to take shape!
If cheating wasn’t an option, then he would do it openly! After plotting for a while, Shi Tian finally sent out an announcement in the group to test the waters.
Shi Xiao Tian: This Saturday from 9 AM to 10 AM, Xing Xing Fishing Tackle Shop will hold a Chou Tiao competition. One first prize winner will receive any Fishing Rod from the shop (excluding reels). Two second prize winners will receive any Fishing Rod (excluding reels) except for Five Meter Four or above Hand Rods; they can pay the difference to choose a Hand Rod of Five Meter Four or above.
Five third prize winners can choose one item from Float Box, Yu Hu, or Net. All participants will receive a commemorative edition Fish Hook!
This was Shi Tian’s first event, and he didn’t know how many people would show up, so he made sure to set generous rewards.
With eight prizes in total—first, second, and third—Shi Tian estimated that all eight prizes combined would cost around one thousand Points.
For Chou Tiao events like this one, as long as they found a good fishing spot, catching a hundred fish in an hour wouldn’t be an issue. Over four hours that would amount to four hundred fish.
If each person caught four hundred fish and three people participated, he wouldn’t lose anything; any additional participants would mean profit!
For Shi Tian, the cost of Fishing Gear was minimal—just some plastic and iron scraps, along with a few other bits and pieces. The real value lay not in the materials but in the Points!
As soon as the news was released, responses flooded in.
Yellow Robe Ascension: What's the registration fee?
Shi Xiao Tian: Registration is free! The fishing method is Taiwanese Fishing, and you can only use the Fish Hooks provided for free by the store. Worms are also provided for free, but you can bring your own Bait if you prefer. Scores will be calculated based on the number of fish caught.
Chang Guadi: Time and location!
Shi Xiao Tian: The time is this Saturday at 5:30 AM; please arrive at the Fishing Spot on your own. No need to register in advance, just bring your own Fishing Gear. The location hasn’t been decided yet, so if any Fishing Buddy in the group knows a spot with plenty of fish, feel free to recommend it. The Fishing Spot will be announced by noon on Friday! You can choose your own Fishing Spot; it’s not fixed!
He was after Points, and the more fish caught, the better. He couldn’t impose too many restrictions—using the store's Hook was enough; everything else was flexible!
Hu Bu Shi: Ask me about good fishing spots! Add me as a friend, and I’ll message you!
Chang Guadi: Hu Bu Shi, aren’t you into Lure fishing? This is a Taiwanese Fishing competition; what are you doing here?
Hu Bu Shi: My nickname is Protector of Fish! Are you joining? Just wait until I catch you off guard!
Chang Duan Gan: What are the valid fish species?
Shi Xiao Tian: We’ll count by number; any fish not on the protected list is valid!
Late at night, Shi Tian's message stirred all the lurkers in the group. With nothing else to do over the weekend, they might as well go fishing. Even if they didn’t catch much, they could at least earn a few Hooks. Joining in on this excitement seemed worthwhile.
After explaining the rules in the group, he added Hu Bu Shi on WeChat. A flurry of location messages came through, leaving Shi Tian dizzy with options. With so many Fishing Spots available, he needed to scout them out first; otherwise, it would be embarrassing if he couldn’t catch any fish!
He filtered through the Fishing Spots; those too far from downtown Kaohsiung were out of the question. He also needed to check for parking around any spots within the city—otherwise, if cars lined up along the street, local traffic police would likely tow them away one by one!
Once he had narrowed down the Fishing Spots, he began preparing the Fish Hooks. Since they were commemorative edition Fish Hooks, he had to incorporate some special elements into their Packaging—at least writing “First Annual Chou Tiao Competition Commemorative Edition” prominently would be necessary!
The next morning, since Sun Lang hadn’t officially started yet, Shi Tian had to reluctantly head to the store at four o'clock to open up. When he arrived at the store entrance, he was surprised to find Sun Lang already waiting for him.
They had agreed that Sun Lang wouldn’t start until his contract was signed; it seemed he had jumped into his role early!
“Up so early?” Shi Tian asked. “Once the shops on this street open up, I’ll get you a key and print out your contract!”
As he opened the store door, Shi Tian began explaining the equipment to Sun Lang.
Compared to Su Xueyi’s meticulousness, Sun Lang was much more straightforward. Forget taking notes; just being able to listen attentively to Shi Tian's explanations was already impressive!
