"Don't, Liu Ju! This fish smells so strong; you'll get it all over yourself!"
"It's fine. I fish every day; I can handle the smell. Just hand the fish over to me!" Liu Ju was not one to be polite. Without further ado, the hefty ten-pound Money Grouper was in her hands.
"Then I'll take care of parking for you! Oh no! I'm all dirty! If I get your car dirty too, I'll take off my jacket!"
"There's no need for that. My car only has the smell of fish in it; nothing else. Hurry up and park it! I know where you live; I can get there myself! You should get the oil heating up; this fish will be perfect for drinking!"
Xu Yuanxiang had just driven Liu Ju's car into the neighborhood when Zhao Zong approached from behind.
"Hey, Liu Ju! That fish is really beautiful! Did you just catch it? Looks like today is a lucky day for you! I have to shamelessly invite myself over for a meal!" Zhao Zong had arrived just in time as Xu Yuanxiang was handing over the fish to Liu Ju.
Earlier that morning, when a few old men were leaving, Wen Qianqian had come over to Shi Tian and mentioned that she wanted to custom order a Fly Rod, and the money had already been transferred to his account.
A Fly Rod was not a big deal; Shi Tian could easily handle it without much effort or cost. However, before Wen Qianqian left, she told him she had given him two fish, which she had already placed in his Artificial Lake, and asked him to check them later to make sure he didn’t mix them up.
Two fish? How much water could there possibly be in his Artificial Lake? Only the deepest part had water; the rest was still dry! If he put two fish in there, wouldn’t they just die from lack of oxygen?
This was not something to take lightly; if those two fish spoiled the yard, how would he manage?
Driving into the yard and glancing at the Artificial Lake, he saw only a few Little White Strips stubbornly swimming alive. He had thrown in a few Water Hyacinths; otherwise, those Little White Strips would have dried up completely!
Did Wen Qianqian trick him? That seemed unlikely! For someone like her who could casually spend tens of thousands on a Fishing Rod, what would two fish mean? She wouldn’t use that as a trick against him!
Wait a minute! There were indeed fish in the Artificial Lake, but they were rather small! If he didn’t look closely, he might mistake these Xiao Yu for Hong Chong!
Jumping into the Artificial Lake and leaning over the surface to take a closer look revealed something surprising! Wen Qianqian really knew how to pick them!
Azure Catfish! And they were adults too, about two inches long. Were these meant to be food for Bai Tiao?
Saying there were only two was an understatement; there were so many Azure Catfish under the Water Hyacinths that they definitely exceeded two and included several varieties. His Small Artificial Lake was going to be lively!
However, this liveliness wouldn’t last long; it wouldn’t be long before these fish became food for others. But that wasn’t a concern; they had high reproduction rates—laying ten eggs at a time every two or three days—and they loved shallow waters and aquatic plants, so they wouldn’t run out anytime soon!
Before five in the afternoon, Old Zhang closed up shop and headed out with Shi Tian’s borrowed gear. He drove Aunt Zhang straight to the spot where they first fished at Yi Laoyez.
Setting up a two-meter-seven pink rod adorned with cartoon patterns, he asked Aunt Zhang to help keep an eye on the Rod while he prepared the area.
He spread out a picnic blanket and arranged several plates of fruit along with a bottle of red wine labeled in foreign script, which made Aunt Zhang glance over curiously from time to time.
"Hooked! Quick, reel it in!" I reminded Aunt Zhang, and she pulled up a Bai Tiao.
We've got a fish! This is too easy! Dinner is on me tonight! A Little White Strip was safely in the net, and Aunt Zhang was as happy as a little girl.
Seeing Old Zhang still not setting up the tent, Aunt Zhang blushed and urged, "What about the tent? Why isn't it up yet?"
Her words made Old Zhang's heart skip a beat after being dormant for over a decade. He picked a cherry and popped it into Aunt Zhang's mouth, chuckling, "It's not dark yet! No rush. What if someone sees us? Let's fish first! We can set up the tent after dinner!"
By the time I saw Old Zhang again, it was already noon. After finishing the Bait Contest in the morning, Shi Tian went to rest at the shop while Old Zhang came over to settle the bill, wanting to buy Shi Tian's gear.
Noticing Old Zhang's legs were a bit shaky, Shi Tian smiled slightly and said, "That won't do. I promised Aunt Zhang I wouldn't sell you my Rod. If you want to buy it, you'll need Aunt Zhang's approval!"
Seeing Shi Tian's mischievous expression, Old Zhang lifted his leg to kick him, but due to his weakness, Shi Tian easily dodged.
"Fine, I'll talk to Aunt Zhang and have her call you!" At this point, Old Zhang squinted and leaned closer to Shi Tian. "Aren't you participating in the Bait Contest? Should we let Aunt Zhang join too? She could see what fishing is really about!"
Is Aunt Zhang getting into fishing because of that?
Shi Tian rolled his eyes at Old Zhang and shook his head slightly. "Do you know how many fish were caught by the champion this morning? Over a thousand in four hours! Don't discourage Aunt Zhang's enthusiasm!"
To support Shi Tian in the Bait Contest, Wang Gou and Lobster Tian came back to compete again. These two were wild when it came to catching Bai Tiao! They were pulling in dozens every hour, leaving all other competitors feeling depressed!
Indeed, the revolution has not yet succeeded; comrades still need to work hard! Handing Shi Tian a cigarette, Old Zhang took a deep drag.
Upon hearing this, Shi Tian protested!
"Uncle Zhang, don’t drag me into this! The gear was borrowed from you; it has nothing to do with me. Whether you put in the effort or not is your own business. I'm just selling Fishing Rods! Whether Aunt Zhang gets involved or not is entirely up to you!"
If Old Zhang could pull Aunt Zhang into this mess, that would be fine. But if he couldn't and needed to distance himself from her, then he would be in trouble if Aunt Zhang got angry. Who would he turn to for help then?
