The typhoon had come, bringing with it a female neighbor for Shi Tian. When the storm passed, this neighbor showed no signs of leaving.
The wind had blown for four days, and the heavy rain had poured for just as long, filling the Ren Lake in the villa area to the brim. As soon as the typhoon was over, Manager Liu arranged for a truckload of koi to be delivered to the two lakes. He even called Shi Tian to ask if he wanted to bring a few over to keep in his yard, but Shi Tian declined.
After all, he was a fisherman; did he really need more fish? On quiet nights, he could sit by Ren Lake with his rod and catch enough to keep Xiao Ren Lake stocked.
The villa area was peaceful after the rain, with the air filled with the fresh scent of grass and trees—perfect weather for fishing. Shi Tian picked up his rod and carried his fishing bucket, preparing to catch some koi from Adult Lake.
As he walked along the pebble-paved path shaded by trees, he heard a familiar guitar chord before reaching the lake. Just a brief prelude, yet Shi Tian recognized Da Qiao and Xiao Qiao's "Farmer Fisherman" instantly. He had once contemplated whether he wanted to be a farmer or a fisherman. After years of deliberation, he still hadn’t reached a conclusion. The scenes depicted in the song were beautiful, but they only captured fleeting moments; without the right mindset, one could never truly grasp their essence.
Through the trees, he spotted a figure in a flowing white dress leisurely perched on a stone bench by the lake. Her delicate feet dangled into the water, creating ripples that teased the koi swimming nearby. The koi danced around her feet in vibrant colors, but their beauty paled in comparison to her exquisite features.
Her long black hair cascaded down her back, partially obscuring her graceful neck. As she strummed her guitar and sang familiar lyrics, her voice danced across the water's surface, sending Shi Tian's heart racing.
He turned and dashed back to his villa, quickly grabbing his Fishing Rod and pulling Tang Tang from its cage. Ignoring Tang Tang's protests, Shi Tian sprinted toward the lake, eager not to keep the beautiful girl waiting.
“Tang Tang,” he said, “it’s time for you to shine! Strike your cutest pose; let’s impress Xiao Yu!”
When he reached the lake again, "Farmer Fisherman" was nearing its final segment. He took a moment to steady his emotions and calm his racing heart before approaching her.
As she finished singing, Shi Tian walked up and said, “Happy weekend! I’m your neighbor; I really enjoyed your song! Hope you don’t mind my weekend greeting!”
She turned to look at him with surprise but quickly smiled. “You must be Shi Tian! I’m Li Ziyu!”
Manager Liu had informed her when she moved in that there was only one other resident in the Back Area—Shi Tian—but she hadn’t seen him until now.
Shi Tian sat down on the stone bench beside her while holding Tang Tang. “You know me? I’m Shi Tian from across the street! I heard from Old Kong that a neighbor was moving in; I didn’t expect you’d arrive so soon!”
Li Ziyu placed her guitar on the bench and reached out for Tang Tang. “This is a Shih Tzu, right? Is it over a month old? It seems quite aloof and doesn’t like to cuddle much!”
“Yes! Its name is Tang Tang; it was named by one of my employees at my Fishing Tackle Shop!” Shi Tian replied before turning to Li Ziyu curiously. “Do you prefer the life of a fisherman or that of a farmer as depicted in that song?”
He didn't know much about Shih Tzus, but Li Ziyu could instantly recognize Tang Tang as one and even determine her age. Shi Tian didn't want to show any weakness in front of her!
"I've planted some flowers and a few vegetables in my yard; I guess that makes me an amateur farmer! What about your fishing rod? Now that we're at the beach, I want to experience the life of a fisherman!" Li Ziyu asked, a teasing smile on her face.
Hearing this, Shi Tian's face darkened. So she had noticed him carrying the rod earlier!
Scratching his head awkwardly, Shi Tian chuckled, "If you want to experience the life of a fisherman, that's easy! The typhoon just passed, and there should be plenty of seafood on the beach. How about we take a stroll along the shore? By the time we’re done, dinner will be sorted with a feast of seafood!"
After accompanying Li Ziyu to drop off her guitar, they headed back to Shi Tian's place to put Tang Tang in a cage. They grabbed two small buckets and shovels before rushing toward the beach to start their dinner preparations.
After the typhoon, the beach was still abundant with seafood.
"Wow! Scallops! There are scallops here!" As soon as they reached the beach, Li Ziyu dashed ahead, overwhelmed by the grand seafood buffet laid out before her.
"There's a fish too! It's still alive!" She pointed at a stranded fish in a small puddle and reached out to grab it.
"Wait! Here, put on these gloves first!" Shi Tian quickly ran over to stop Li Ziyu and handed her a pair of cut-resistant gloves from his bucket.
With scallops, spicy stir-fried clams, and all sorts of crabs and sea snails, Li Ziyu was completely absorbed in her treasure hunt.
"Big crabs like to hide under rocks! I'll flip the rocks; you catch them!" Seeing that Li Ziyu's bucket contained only hermit crabs that were barely bigger than a fingernail, Shi Tian said sympathetically.
Her white dress had already been soaked by seawater, and her little bucket was gradually filling up. As orchids and Pipi shrimp joined their haul, the hermit crabs lost their favor and returned to the embrace of the sea.
After more than an hour of gathering, they had quite a bountiful catch. Li Ziyu picked based on appearance while Shi Tian chose according to taste. Abalone and lobsters weren't rare after the typhoon; there were still some to be found in the rocky areas.
Looking at the rising tide and glancing at his bucket, Shi Tian called out to Li Ziyu, "Let's go! We need to leave; the tide is coming in!"
