Brought to the shop by Kang Ziyu, Shi Tian hurriedly set off while the temperature was still manageable. After several rounds of Chou Tiao competitions, the suitable venues in the city had been thoroughly scouted. To find a Fishing Spot, he would have to venture to less developed areas or follow the rivers in Sanya City towards Shang Yan.
There were a few Fishing Spots around Sanya Bay, but to Shi Tian, they seemed a bit far. The competition started early in the morning, and if he went there, he would have to leave by five at the latest. Moreover, most of the people in his group were Fishing Buddies from Great Eastern Sea and Yalong Bay, making it somewhat inconvenient for them to head that way.
Following the Da Mao River upstream and passing Songhe Reservoir, it was relatively quiet here, likely due to it being Monday. There were indeed big fish in Songhe Reservoir, and their density was quite high; unfortunately, fishing was prohibited there, leaving a group of Fishermen lamenting their luck!
Arriving at the middle section of Da Mao River, the effects of a recent typhoon were still lingering, causing the water level to rise significantly. He cast his Bait into the water, set up his rod with a Seven Star Float, and attached a worm. With a gentle shake, he watched as the Seven Star Float danced on the surface in a formation reminiscent of the Beidou constellation.
Since he had last used a combined rod, Shi Tian had grown fond of its feel for Chou Tiao fishing. Thus, he had stowed it in his car, taking it wherever he went!
Five minutes passed with no movement from the Seven Star Float, leaving Shi Tian somewhat dumbfounded. He was here for Chou Tiao! Five minutes had gone by without a single fish—this was not normal! With such density, if they held a Chou Tiao competition here, wouldn’t he be at a loss?
Was it a problem with his Wo Liao? But usually for Chou Tiao fishing, he didn’t need Wo Liao; fish would bite just fine! Now that he had even used specialized Wo Liao and still no bites? That didn’t make sense!
Was it an issue with the float? Was it really giving him an Air Force on his first try with the Seven Star Float? Was this float so unfriendly? That couldn’t be right! Did Chou Tiao fishing even require watching the float? Even without one, wouldn’t fish still bite? A simple stick and line could win championships in Chou Tiao competitions; yet here he was with professional gear and hadn’t caught a single fish!
Shi Tian was certain there had to be fish in Da Mao River. He had fished here before and caught quite a few decent ones! No way—he needed to change Fishing Spots! Perhaps all the fish here were off at work today. Moving fifty meters upstream towards Shang Yan might yield better luck!
Feeling somewhat frustrated after getting an Air Force on his first practical use of Wo Liao, he blamed it all on those products being counterfeit and unreliable!
Switching to a fresh worm and casting again, this time he decided not to set up his Fishing Box; he would first check on the fish situation! The goal of Chou Tiao competitions was Points; if there weren’t enough fish around to catch ten or eight within an hour, what was the point of holding a competition?
After finishing a cigarette, Shi Tian noticed that the Seven Star Float remained completely still—this felt almost mystical! Had rare species taken over? Or had everyone in his group fished out all the fish while practicing their speed for Chou Tiao? That seemed unlikely! He had previously caught several Fish Bait from Ren Lake without missing any!
Was it an issue with the Seven Star Float? Shi Tian lifted his rod and swapped out for a different Line Setup; this time he would try using an ordinary float!
Before Shi Tian even cast his line, he sensed something was off. There were dead fish in the river, and not just one or two. A couple of lifeless fish floated downstream, drifting past him without so much as a greeting.
Had someone poisoned the water?
He put away his rod and walked upstream for over a hundred meters, where he spotted a dilapidated van parked by the roadside, with no one around. Peering through the window, he saw two large baskets inside, piled high with fish corpses—an alarming sight!
"Hello, is this 110? This is Da Mao River. At Shang Yan, about fifteen hundred meters past Songhe Reservoir, someone is illegally fishing and may have poisoned the water. Do you want to come take a look?"
Any actions that disrupt the Chou Tiao competition must be dealt with firmly. He wasn’t sure whether this fishing was illegal or not, but causing dead fish to sink in the river was certainly not a legitimate activity!
After snapping a few photos, Shi Tian tucked his phone away and leisurely made his way back to his car. There was only one road here; if the van wanted to escape, it would first have to deal with him. He could easily block the road with his vehicle, forcing the van to comply with the law!
