"Where's the bait? Bring it out for me to take a look!" As soon as Wang Ergou entered, he darted behind the counter. Halfway there, he suddenly spotted a cardboard box on a chair and turned back, heading straight for it.
Seeing this, Shi Tian quickly covered the box. If he didn’t stop Wang Ergou, he feared this guy would just haul the entire box of bait away without a second thought—didn’t he notice that his car was still running?
"Hold on, take a seat and have some tea first. Let me introduce you to something."
Once Wang Ergou was settled, Shi Tian opened the box and pulled out a package of Grass Carp Bait. "This is a new product; it hasn't been mass-produced yet. They just sent me a few samples to try out. I tested the Carp bait yesterday, and it worked pretty well. However, I haven't tried the Grass Carp bait yet. After you test it, let me know your feedback!"
The packaging of the bait was quite simple; there were no patterns or trademarks on it, just a small QR code and a string of letters at the bottom that could help identify what type of bait it was.
Wang Ergou tore open the packaging, grabbed a few pieces, and sniffed them. He nodded in approval.
"The flavor is right—sweet and sour. It should work well for catching Grass Carp. Give me a few packs too; I’ll find a spot to try it out later. Want to join?" With a quick pull of the seal, Wang Ergou tossed the bait under his feet, claiming it as his own.
"Going to try it out? Night fishing? No way! I’d get eaten alive by mosquitoes!" Shi Tian firmly rejected the idea of night fishing.
He had already spent an entire day drifting at sea and was too tired to move. Going night fishing? He didn’t have that kind of energy!
Shi Tian handed Wang Ergou two packs of each type of bait. Stretching and yawning, he said, "I spent all day at sea with my senior brother and Oka recording videos for them. We caught a few cucumbers, but unfortunately, as soon as we got back to shore, someone bought them all! Otherwise, I could have treated you to some fish!"
Catching Large Yellow Croaker without showing off felt like a missed opportunity.
It wasn’t easy to get someone like Wang Ergou—a seasoned fisherman—over here; showing off in front of him felt rewarding!
And indeed, his boasting had an immediate effect.
"Large Yellow Croaker? Damn! Your senior brother sent me a message last night saying he was just going nearshore today but didn’t have time to go fishing; otherwise, I would have gone too!" Upon hearing about Shi Tian catching Large Yellow Croaker, Wang Ergou slapped his thigh in regret.
Last night, he received information from Scallion and Ginger about just drifting nearshore, which made him lose interest.
What could be found nearshore? Just small fish! He would rather spend the day waiting for Giant Blue; maybe he’d catch something big!
But upon hearing "cucumbers," Wang Ergou regretted it. If he had known there were Large Yellow Croaker around, he would have gone no matter what!
"By the way, give me a few more packs of bait; two packs aren’t enough! That stuff gets used up quickly!" After putting away his bait, Wang Ergou told Shi Tian before heading back to his car to lock up these baits first.
Hearing this from Wang Ergou made Shi Tian shake his head helplessly.
"What’s with you all? Why are you so fixated on bait? Is this really necessary?"
When Wang Ergou returned, he saw four more packs of bait on the table. A smirk appeared on his face as he turned around again and moved four packs of bait into the passenger seat before turning off the engine and locking the car.
When he came back in again, Lobster followed closely behind him with another two packs—this time adding four more packs of bait to his haul.
"Sun Lang, hand me that Eight Meters rod, the one that's adjusted." With a casual glance, Lobster kept a wary eye on Wang Ergou while cradling Wo Liao and turning back to the car. Only then did he return to check out his new rod.
"Don't you already have a rod? Why didn't you buy one? Did it break?" After pouring a cup of tea for Wang Ergou and Lobster, Shi Tian casually asked.
"When you called me, I was working overtime! This rod is the signature on my leave request! It’s not easy for me to grab some Wo Liao!" Lobster's words were pitiful, yet he wore a sly grin.
"Come on! Who would believe that? You must think everyone else is a fool! Did you con your boss again?" After downing a sip of hot tea, Wang Ergou retorted with disdain.
These two spent every day together; Lobster's idea to drag Zhang Junming into trouble had come from Wang Ergou. With some artistic embellishments from Lobster, Zhang Junming ended up in quite the predicament!
"So, what do you say? Should we find a place to try it out tonight?" After finishing his tea, Lobster turned to Wang Ergou, rod in hand.
"Are we going for Grass Carp or Carp? Night fishing is a must tonight; otherwise, when I go home, I’ll be dreaming about Hei Piao. We need to decide what fish to catch first and cast a few lines!"
"Let’s go for Grass Carp! It’s been a while since I’ve fished for them. Let’s head to Sha Niu Po Reservoir! We can take one car; yours can stay here!"
With that, the two exchanged knowing smiles, stood up together, and drove off into the vast night.
Sha Niu Po Reservoir lay southwest of Yi Tian Reservoir, adjacent but significantly smaller. Unfortunately, there weren't many Grass Carp in Yi Tian Reservoir; otherwise, given the similar distance, they would have definitely chosen it.
After sending the two off, Shi Tian carried the remaining Wo Liao upstairs.
