After dinner, the Da Gui Four-Man Team had already surrendered, lying on the deck of the boat. A whole afternoon of frantically reeling in had left their arms sore and red, as if they had been rubbed with oil.
With the Da Gui Four-Man Team defeated, it was now time for Shi Tian and Wang Ergou to take the stage. The Da Gui Four-Man Team had a decent haul that afternoon, catching several Zhang Hong, Gui Tou, and Sea Wolf, along with a hefty Niu Gang Mackerel weighing over forty pounds that they had taken from Da Gui Wang.
"Dog Brother, it's your turn! The bite was good this afternoon; now let's see what you can do!" Calmly glanced at Wang Ergou, who was organizing his rod at the stern, and smiled slightly.
It was three against one; their purpose for going out to sea was simply to challenge Wang Ergou. This wasn’t about personal grudges but rather a contest between Lure and Taiwanese Fishing. Unfortunately, Wang Ergou was using an Electric Reel at sea.
But that didn’t matter; it could just be seen as a competition between the traditional method and the Electric Reel!
The evening bite was better than in the afternoon. "How about we drop down for another couple of hours?" Wang Ergou asked with a half-smile when he caught Calmly's eye.
Calmly's face darkened at Wang Ergou's suggestion. "Another two hours? Do you want to keep your arms?" he retorted, incredulous.
Wang Ergou didn’t rush to cast his line; Shi Tian had already dived into the cabin to position the boat next to the Oil Well platform, using its lights to attract fish!
As soon as the boat stopped near the Oil Well platform and the spotlight was turned on, Wang Ergou immediately cast his rod into the water.
Shi Tian emerged from the cabin without a rod; instead, he wore cut-resistant gloves and held a large spool of line.
After attaching a Live Shrimp, he tossed the line onto the deck and threw the hook into the sea, starting to play with it.
"Shou Si? You really know how to play!" Wang Ergou glanced back at Shi Tian, feeling somewhat speechless.
Shou Si was one of the simplest fishing methods: just a line with a Lead Weight attached and one or two hooks thrown into the sea. The sensation wasn’t much different from using Shi Tian’s Customized Rod.
Despite its simple setup, Shou Si was surprisingly efficient—perhaps even more so than an Ordinary Rod—since holding the line allowed for immediate feedback with every nibble.
Shi Tian found himself pondering why such a simple setup could be effective while those fishermen insisted on spending so much on equipment. Did they have money to burn?
As he felt a tug on his line, he instinctively let out some slack to encourage the fish to take the bait fully. After another nibble, he quickly pulled back—he had hooked a fish! The sensation was far superior to using a rod; he could feel every struggle of the fish beneath the water.
Standing up to reel in his catch, he pulled in nearly a hundred meters of line before bringing aboard a Sweet Potato Fish measuring over twenty centimeters.
"Wow! You can catch fish like that too!" Dà Hǎi exclaimed in surprise before turning to Da Gui Wang. "Turtle Brother, can your rod compete with this?"
Coughing lightly, Da Gui Wang yawned and raised his hands. "I’m feeling a bit tired; I think I’ll head down for some rest!" He turned and disappeared into the cabin, clearly not planning to show his face again tonight.
It was absurd to think that one could trade skill for fish and then back out!
As Shi Tian continued playing with Shou Si, others on deck grew curious and rushed down to watch.
This was my first time fishing, and I realized I wasn't doing it quite right. In the seventy to eighty meters deep water, the advantage of fishing was minimal; the line was too long, making it less sensitive. I changed the bait and decided not to let it sink all the way to the bottom this time. Instead, I let it down to thirty meters, searching for the fish layer bit by bit.
The advantage here at Nan You was that at night, the lights on the drilling platform attracted fish. The surface of the water was filled with small fish, which in turn attracted larger ones looking to feed on them. This created a growing congregation of fish, slowly turning this spot into a sea fishing paradise.
Suddenly, I felt a tightness in my line and quickly reeled it in. A two-kilogram catfish broke the surface. Meanwhile, Wang Ergou hadn’t caught anything yet, but Shi Tian had already landed two. I noticed several people turning back to grab their rods, eager to pull out their reels and try their luck at fishing.
I handed my line over to Sun Lang while Shi Tian returned to the cabin to fetch an iron plate rod. He removed the fishing set from it and attached a squid hook instead, then hurried over to the other side of the boat with a bucket to catch some squid.
There was no shortage of squid around Nan You; as long as it wasn't a full moon night, you could easily find plenty just by sweeping across the surface of the sea. The squid hooks glowed in the dark, but under the bright lights of the Nan You platform and the boat's searchlight, that faint glow was practically useless.
