With a Squid Hook attached to the Fast Draw Iron Plate Rod, I dropped it directly onto the Squid's head without any need to swing it. A gentle tug, and just like that, a Squid was hooked!
The efficiency of catching Squid was quite impressive. Within half an hour, I had already reeled in nearly twenty Squids, though two of them were snatched away by Wang Ergou to be used as live bait!

With soy sauce, wasabi, and spicy sauce available on the table, everyone could mix their own dipping sauces. I raised my glass of white liquor and clinked it with theirs before downing it in one go—it felt so good!
The ink from the Squids might look unappetizing, but it tasted quite good. It had a hint of salty ocean flavor mixed with a touch of herbal essence—definitely an interesting seasoning.
I heard that there were many boats at Nan'ao Island specifically for catching these Squids. They had large Attracting Fish Lights on top and nets below. Every ten to twenty minutes, they would pull up the nets with a winch, often catching plenty of Squids along with some phototropic Xiao Yu!
The Squids would be tossed directly into pots for steaming; they would be served fresh and ready to eat—just like what we were doing now. However, those boats could catch several dozen in just an hour! If luck was on your side, you could fill two stomachs! After finishing a can of beer, Calmly said.

Hearing Calmly talk about eating Squid at Nan'ao Island made everyone laugh heartily. Spending money to take friends out for Squid only resulted in each person getting just a few bites; after landing back on shore, they would have to spend more money on skewers.
You could go to Pan Hei Keng but don’t think about challenging Boatman with your hobby! Wang Ergou also reeled in his line, washed his hands, then grabbed a can of beer as he stepped onto the deck. He took a bite out of a Squid without even dipping it in soy sauce—that’s how you enjoy it raw!
Just like those who rented boats to go fishing near Nan You or even those who rented boats for nearshore fishing—could they really land anything? If fishing were that easy, those Fishing Boats would just come out themselves; why bother working hard just to pay for fishing fees?
Wang Ergou’s words served as a splash of cold water for these first-time fishermen at sea—to wake them up and not let them get carried away by those two big fish from earlier.
There aren’t that many fish nearshore! Dropping down several meters of fishing net and waiting half a day only to pull up ten pounds of Xiao Yu is common! Most times it’s even less than what you’d catch by casting nets in reservoirs.
