Shi Tian smiled slightly, imitating Wang Ergou. He had spent several days researching strategies for this outing and had just learned a new fishing technique. Now, it was time to test it against Wang Ergou!
He felt the hook touch the bottom and reeled in two meters of line. With a swift motion, he performed a little dance with the rod, trying to shake out the small shrimp from the bait cage as quickly as possible. These shrimp were relatively large; on one hand, they would attract bigger fish, and on the other, they would draw in a swarm of small fish, which in turn would lure the larger ones!
After shaking it a few times, he let out some line to gauge the situation. If there was no reaction, he would shake it again to ensure all the shrimp were out of the bait cage as soon as possible.
"What’s wrong? Did you get shocked?" Seeing Shi Tian's sudden movement, Wang Ergou turned around to grab the net, intending to give him a few whacks!
"Wait! Take it easy! My arm is just a bit itchy; I was just shaking it!" Watching Wang Ergou raise the net high, Shi Tian decisively took a step back. If that hit him, he wouldn't be able to lift his rod again!
"It’s just an itch! Why are you acting so crazy?" Wang Ergou shook his head in disbelief and placed the net beside him, pulling in some line while continuing to tease the fish below.
"Brother Dog, Niu Zong caught a fish! Guess what kind it is!" Changing the subject to divert Wang Ergou's attention, Shi Tian discreetly pulled the net closer to himself and sighed in relief.
Wang Ergou was too ruthless; he had only shaken his rod a couple of times and almost got his arm broken. It would be best to keep some distance from him in the future—at least not let him handle the net casually!
"I don’t know what kind of fish it is, but I can tell that something’s wrong with his reel; it’s probably been damaged by that tuna yesterday!" Wang Ergou said casually after shaking his ears.
A damaged reel wasn’t unusual, especially when catching big fish; the probability was quite high! However, for Niu Zong and Zhang Junming to ruin their new gear with just one fish was really unfortunate!
The damage could be due to the quality of the reel or perhaps issues with technique during use. Niu Zong and Zhang Junming had been taken by Lobster to buy their equipment; they weren’t short on money, so the reel quality shouldn’t be too bad. It was likely that when Niu Zong pulled up that big fish yesterday with brute force without paying attention to reeling technique, he ended up hurting the reel!
That possibility seemed quite plausible; otherwise, that fish wouldn’t have come off right after being pulled out of the water.
This morning had been quite wild; Niu Zong had been fighting a fish for over ten minutes with his rod when Shi Tian also hooked one! Meanwhile, Wang Ergou was left confused in the wind!
"Why does this fish only want your hook?" Watching Shi Tian slowly reel in his line made Wang Ergou feel somewhat uncomfortable.
After all that fuss last night with Yan Zai and Sea Wolf, they hadn’t managed to catch a single decent-sized fish.
"Brother Dog, this is a Wen Yi Yu! Just now I danced a little Blackjack for it, and it took the bait!" Shi Tian tightened the drag and chuckled as he said this seriously.
"Get lost! What’s so special about your Blackjack? Does it have wild cards or something?" Wang Ergou retorted while grabbing his rod and shouted: "The king calls me to patrol the mountains; I’ll turn the world upside down!"
Having seen through Shi Tian's routine earlier, Wang Ergou shook his rod for a bit before letting all the bait shrimp scatter from the bait cage. He lowered his hook and waited for big fish to come by.
This method wasn’t particularly effective since they were fishing for bottom-dwelling species. Once those shrimp were out of the bait cage, they would sink to the seabed within minutes unless there happened to be fish nearby—otherwise, it wouldn’t have much effect!
Since Shi Tian had already caught a fish, there should be other big ones lurking below! When Shi Tian glanced at his fish finder earlier, he only took a quick look; if there was only one fish down there, wouldn’t he need to search for a while?
"Brother, what's wrong with the dog? What triggered it?" Wang Ergou howled, startling Da Gui Wang! It was early in the morning, and the sky hadn't even brightened yet! What was going on with Wang Ergou?
Turning to glance at Wang Ergou, Tan shook his head and smiled, "He fished all day and didn't catch a single decent fish. He's gone mad!"
After teasing Wang Ergou, before Tan could turn back, Da Gui Wang immediately expressed concern, "Brother, you fished all day too and didn't catch anything big, right? You can't follow his example! It's quite frightening!"
As soon as Da Gui Wang finished speaking, Tan raised his hand to grab the net beside him, ready to give it a swing! He had just mocked Wang Ergou and now he was being teased by Da Gui Wang!
"Dog Brother, pour some water on the wheel for me. The load adjustment was a bit off earlier; the brakes might be a little hot!" While reeling in a fish on the rod, Shi Tian got a bit heated and provoked Wang Ergou.
As for the fish on the rod, while it occasionally pulled some line, it wasn't enough to warrant pouring water on the wheel. When they were fishing for that sailfish yesterday, they hadn't poured any water to cool down during the first half of the fight. It was only in the latter half when Wang Ergou had some downtime that they poured a bit of water on it, and there had never been any issue with the brakes failing.
