The rhythm of the boat was resonating, causing it to sway. With the beat so strong, it was nearly impossible not to move! As the boat rocked, Niu Zong began to feel a bit uneasy. The Wheel in his hands was already difficult to turn, and with the group adding to the rhythm, his Rod instinctively followed suit, jerking upward with a sudden pull. With that pull, crack! The Rod lightened! A fish had escaped!
"Oh no!" Sun Lang instinctively shouted as he saw Niu Zong lose the fish.
"Oh no! Oh no!"
The fish that Niu Zong lost was quite valuable, but losing one fish brought joy to the entire crew! However, the chorus of "oh no" startled Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell and Wang Gou, making their hearts race as they still had fish on their own Rods!
Tan also had a fish on his line, but Shou Si was incredibly efficient. In just a few swift motions, he had already brought a fish close to the boat. With a quick scoop from Da Gui Wang's Net, a large Shi Ban weighing over ten pounds was pulled aboard.
The Shi Ban, known for its black color, is called Black Sea Bass. As for its scientific name, it seems to have been forgotten; it should be called smoked bass! The term Shi Ban doesn't refer to just one type of fish but rather several kinds of Stonefish.
Looking at the Stonefish that resembled pumpkin seeds, calling it Shi Ban is likely correct. To be more specific, the black ones are called Black Sea Bass, while the red ones are known as Red Gourd Fish. There are also grayish-white varieties and the strikingly robust blue gourd fish. All of these are considered good catches.
Red Gourd Fish are quite common and abundant nearshore, with prices starting at over a hundred—making them a relatively high-end Stonefish. Despite its less appealing appearance, Black Sea Bass has an equally attractive price; frozen ones can go for around a hundred per pound. If you're feeling hungry, you can buy one from Dog Dong; most are prepped and ready to cook—just scale it and it's good to go.
With minimal cooking skills required, all you need to do is scale the fish cleanly, make two cuts along its back, stuff in some ginger slices, pour a bit of Cooking Wine over it, and steam for ten minutes once the pot is heated. When it's done steaming, sprinkle some chopped scallions on top and drizzle hot oil over it. Pour a little steamed fish Soy Sauce underneath, and it's ready to eat!
As dawn broke and the fishing bite slowed down, Shi Tian instructed Sun Lang to help Wang Gou bring in the fish while he headed into the cabin to prepare breakfast for them.
The others were fine, but Da Gui and his crew were exhausted. If they didn’t prepare something for them to eat soon, they might just collapse into sleep. After only two days out at sea, they couldn’t afford to head back home!
While Shi Tian went off to make breakfast, Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell started getting busy as well. With some help from lobsters, they managed to bring aboard a thirty-pound Zhang Hong. After quickly processing it, they rushed off to make breakfast for everyone; Niu Zong was in a foul mood after losing his fish and preferred to keep his distance!
After dealing with Da Gui Pai's crew, he stepped out from the cabin: "Are you planning to keep fishing this morning? Should we change Fishing Spots?"
Currently on watch were only Wang Gou and Da Gui Wang. Wang Gou hadn’t caught much yesterday—just some small Xiao Yu. As for Da Gui Wang, he had fared better with a Manta Ray weighing several dozen pounds; however, this type of fish is cheap—only ten dollars per pound—so such a large catch wasn’t worth much.
Glancing over at Da Gui Wang made Wang Gou sigh and shake his head: "I’ll just cast a couple of lines before going back to sleep; changing Fishing Spots seems unnecessary!"
Tying off near the Drilling Platform and securing their lines meant they could relax for now!
Shi Tian, like him, had pulled an all-nighter and soon needed to sleep. Setting sail to find a Fishing Spot, it was clear that Da Gui Wang would be the only one fishing, as there was no one else to operate the boat. That was simply impossible!
Out at sea, despite the calm surface, the Ocean Current never ceased. If they all went to sleep and woke up later, who knew where the boat would drift off to! As for anchoring at a different Fishing Spot, who could tell how deep the water was? Would that little anchor chain on board even reach the seabed?
What Wang Gou didn't know was that the Air Force boat was equipped with a rather trendy gadget called the Top Flow Device. This device was far more convenient than an anchor; once set up with its positioning, it could automatically adjust the boat's location to avoid being swept away by the Ocean Current. It even had a remote control to fine-tune the boat's position.
Although this device didn’t run on oil, it did require electricity! With such a large vessel, a ten-kilowatt engine would mean that if this device were activated, the boat's Engine would have to keep running; otherwise, the batteries would be drained in no time!
Since they weren't changing Fishing Spots, he decided not to fuss about it! He rigged his Slow Rocking Rod with Chained Hooks, attaching a Live Shrimp to each hook before casting it into Hai Li. Lighting a cigarette, he didn’t even bother watching the rod tip; he simply pulled it up.
In one cast, he hooked three fish—all Huang Ji—which made Da Gui Wang and Wang Gou on the other side green with envy.
The fish weren’t big, but there were plenty! From casting to reeling in took only two or three minutes, and he pulled up so many fish at once—it was almost inhumane!
Such a good fishing situation couldn’t be allowed for Shi Tian alone. He retrieved his Fishing Box to switch gear; with Chained Hooks attached, he cast his line back into the water and immediately saw a flurry of fish coming up one after another, leaving those on the opposite boat dumbfounded!
Chained Hooks weren’t suitable for freshwater fishing; catching fish was a joy, but using Chained Hooks meant it was more of a production!
