Since I am part of the shop, I should have a certain attitude. If I can fish here all day, then I will shamelessly do so, as such a good fishing spot is hard to find.
Glancing at their catch in the Fish Bucket, I could only say it was mediocre, mostly common Black Sea Bream and small fish. After a round of observation, I stood behind a few old men and spoke up: "Gentlemen, this is my territory, and you are welcome to fish here. However, there are a few things I want to discuss with you first!"
Seeing that these old men were not unfriendly, I felt encouraged to continue. "First of all, please keep the place clean. After you finish fishing, all trash must be cleaned up. Plastic bags and such cannot be thrown into the Hai Li; otherwise, you will end up on the blacklist!"
"The second rule is one rod per person; catch and release for smaller fish. We fish for fun, not to wipe out the Hai Li's population!"
This third point just came to mind because I was worried these old men might use sea rods. If they did that, the area would be overcrowded with two or three people taking up all the space, leaving no room for others to fish!
After stating my two rules, the three old men turned to stare at me, making me feel a bit awkward.
"What’s wrong? Is there an issue with these two rules?" Looking at their expressions, I thought carefully—these two rules seemed reasonable enough! Could it be that they really wanted to use sea rods and had objections to the one-rod rule?
As for the third rule? It felt odd only having two rules! Just then, one old man blurted out something that made the other two glare at him.
"Are you jinxing us? Fewer rules mean fewer restrictions; why are you being so negative?"
The third rule? I hadn’t thought of one yet! With just these two rules, it seemed sufficient! Rubbing my head in thought, I realized I really hadn’t come up with a third rule.
One of the older men covered the mouth of the talkative one and leaned closer to me seriously: "Don’t worry; these two rules are perfectly fine! Here, leave me your number. We’ll keep an eye on things for you. If anyone dares to break these rules, I’ll text you and get them on the blacklist!"
After exchanging numbers with the old man, I pondered—had he just promoted himself? With one sentence he became the Fishing Platform supervisor?
That wasn’t too bad; as long as he didn’t expect me to pay him, having this unofficial supervisor was quite welcome!
With our agreement in place and Black Bream bait ready, I counted out twenty plastic particles to keep for bait and tossed the rest into Hai Li. Setting up my bait tray on the Fishing Box and pouring in some water turned it into a decent ashtray—a trick I learned from Sun Lang.
After finishing a cigarette, I hooked a plastic particle onto my line and cast it out casually to test the waters!
I quickly caught several fish in succession; the three old men looked on in disbelief—my catch rate was astonishingly high!
Moving closer with a cigarette in hand, one of them offered me a smoke while another slyly stuffed half a pack into my pocket: "Little Boss, what kind of bait are you using? Your catch rate is incredible!"
Narrowing my eyes and patting my pocket full of cigarettes, I lifted my rod again and reeled in another Black Sea Bream weighing over half a kilogram. With a grin, I replied: "Do you know why there are so many fish here? It’s because we’ve been chumming!"
We fishermen have an old saying: if you don’t chum before fishing, you won’t catch much. To catch more fish, you need to create a heavy chum spot! Before casting my line earlier, I had already chummed the area; that’s why all the fish came over.
As I reeled in my rod and realized my plastic particles were all used up, it was time for me to leave.
I tossed back any small fish under half a kilogram into Hai Li while taking those over half a kilogram back to the shop to add to the tank—enough for Sun Lang to sell for several days!
As Shi Tian returned to the store, the Number One Non-Staff Supervisor exchanged glances with Number Two and Number Three. They huddled together, realizing that their plan was indeed unreasonable. As non-staff supervisors, they needed to be diligent about their responsibilities at this Fishing Spot. So, they decided to set up a non-mandatory baiting reminder.
The Hai Li fish were plentiful, especially since this area was where the river flowed into Haikou. With the rising and falling tides, more people baiting would surely attract even more fish. It seemed like a solid plan!
Shi Tian had no idea that these non-staff supervisors were already thinking of abusing their authority before officially starting their roles. Meanwhile, he was just chatting idly with Sun Lang in the store.
He thought about getting a large fish tank! He could separate his fishing from Sun Lang's, and whoever sold their catch would keep the money. Turning around the counter, Shi Tian noticed there was plenty of space left for another big tank.
Alright, I’ll get a tank later. The cost will come out of the fish sales, and from now on, that money will serve as activity funds. Once we save enough, we can have a gathering or go for some Sea Fishing.
Sun Lang casually remarked that going for Sea Fishing was what he really wanted! After not taking him on the last few trips, it was likely he was itching to go again!
"Why bother with a big tank then? If it's for activity funds, I should include my fish too! We can't have activities without me!" Sun Lang shot back with a grin.
Shi Tian rolled his eyes at him; he had to admit that Sun Lang had a point! However, it was still best not to let them start a side business; it shouldn’t interfere with their motivation. After all, there was still Old Lin next door!
