"Hey, big brother, are you here to fish? Come on, there's a spot over here. Why not cast your line here?" Shi Tian said enthusiastically as he sized up the middle-aged man behind him.
"Nice gear! A rod box, and you’ve got quite a bit of equipment for someone just starting out. All brand-name stuff too; looks like you’re not short on cash. If I guide you a bit, you might just turn out to be a valuable client," Shi Tian thought to himself.
Kong Yunfei was taken aback by Shi Tian's words. He had been contemplating how to approach the conversation, but Shi Tian had already taken the initiative. However, what was with this "big brother" business? Did he really consider him a "bro"? Would his daughter approve of this?
"Sure! But this is my first time fishing, so you'll have to teach me a lot!" Kong Yunfei said generously as he placed his Fishing Box next to Shi Tian.
"Since you've come to me, don't blame me for being rude!" Shi Tian replied with a smile. "I can’t really say I’m an expert either; I just learned to fish not long ago. Let's learn from each other!"
After some polite exchanges, Shi Tian picked up his Rod and switched out for two Carp Baits. "Let me show you what I can do first, and then I'll lead you into the fun!"
A little over ten minutes later, he caught a Little Carp and glanced smugly at Kong Yunfei, who was still fumbling with his gear. "Come on, let me teach you how to adjust the float and find the bottom!"
Kong Yunfei still hadn’t managed to set up his Rod properly after all that time. He was clearly inexperienced but didn’t seem to be lacking in funds; he couldn’t let him slip away!
For now, Shi Tian wasn’t in a hurry to introduce Kong Yunfei to his Rod. It would be too obvious if he immediately started talking about Xingpai Fishing Gear. Instead, he thought it best to let Kong Yunfei catch a couple of fish first so he could get a general idea before introducing him to the Xing Brand Rod.
After helping Kong Yunfei set up his Line Setup and teaching him how to cast, Shi Tian handed the Rod over to him. "As the saying goes, if you don’t bait the spot first, you won’t catch much. You need to prepare the area before fishing."
He threw some Wo Liao into the water to attract fish, ensuring they would gather around the Hook and compete for the bait; this way, they would have a better chance of catching bigger fish.
After explaining the theory behind it all, Shi Tian generously pulled out two packs of Carp Bait from his pocket and helped Kong Yunfei prepare the spot. He left some Wo Liao in Kong Yunfei's bait tray and showed him how to attach the Hook, just waiting for him to catch a fish.
Watching Shi Tian bustling about made Kong Yunfei furrow his brow; this guy seemed a bit scatterbrained! Teaching him how to adjust floats and cast was one thing, but helping him bait and giving away his own supplies seemed a bit extravagant!
"What’s going on? Is your family’s Bait running low? Is it about to expire? Are you here doing charity work?" Kong Yunfei joked casually as he pulled out a cigarette and offered it to Shi Tian.
"Do you smoke? Want one?"
Shi Tian did smoke; that much was in Old Kong's notes about him. A single cigarette wasn’t a big deal, but it could reveal many details about a person’s character. Often, one's quality could be seen in these seemingly trivial moments.
"Alright then, thanks!"
Shi Tian wasn’t one to fuss over such things during this Chance Encounter. He casually took the cigarette, pulled out a lighter, lit one for Kong Yunfei first, then lit his own. Taking a puff, he returned to their Fishing Spot and cast his line back into the water while keeping an eye on Kong Yunfei's Float.
Shi Tian’s actions left Kong Yunfei speechless. What was his status? Aside from a few older gentlemen, when had he ever offered someone else a cigarette? Even when he did offer cigarettes before, it was always with an air of subservience!
However, Shi Tian's gesture of offering a cigarette was quite commendable. He handed over a pack of Nine Supremes, which he had specifically prepared yesterday. It wasn't exactly obscure and certainly had a decent standing, priced at one hundred per box, enough to showcase a bit of status.
If Shi Tian were to bow and scrape over this single cigarette, it would be somewhat beneath him; Old Shi certainly wouldn't look favorably upon a son-in-law who grovels!
After expressing his thanks, he lit it for him, which was polite enough. Once the cigarette was lit, he turned back to his Fishing Spot, not harboring any thoughts of forming a connection over this smoke.
This was understandable; after all, Shi Tian wasn't short on money. A typical Little Boss wouldn't even catch his eye. Not to mention the wealth of Shi Ye's family, even Shi Chui and Yun Wan'er were doing well in their business. He could understand why they wouldn't want to associate with him.
Kong Yunfei was lost in thought, unaware that Shi Tian hadn't even noticed what brand of cigarette he had offered.
It was fortunate that Shi Tian didn't pay attention to the brand; if he had, his plan to drag Kong Yunfei into trouble would have included several more layers of complexity—he would have wanted to make Kong Yunfei bleed a little more!
"Hey, watch your Float! It's got a bite! When the Float sinks completely, lift your rod; it looks like you might be catching something big!" Kong Yunfei's Float twitched, prompting Shi Tian to quickly remind him.
Dragging Kong Yunfei into trouble meant letting him claim his big prize first—catching a few fish to get him hooked before proceeding.
As Shi Tian called out the warning, Kong Yunfei snapped back to reality and glanced at his Float, noticing it slowly sinking.
Am I here to fish? No, I'm here to evaluate you! If I wanted fish, I could just buy them directly—why come out here to catch them myself?
But I can't disregard your good intentions either; I might as well lift the rod with some reluctance!
As he lifted the rod, he felt a tug on the line. Surprisingly, it felt quite good!
