You can't mention it, you can't ask about it, and you can't know! As long as you pretend not to know, Yi Laotou won't dare to bring up the matter of the sea in front of you! If it's not mentioned, Yi Laotou can only bother Scallion Ginger Fishy alone!
As the saying goes, "A dead friend is better than a poor Taoist." The troubles that Scallion Ginger Fishy has sown must be swallowed by him alone!
It was agreed to set sail at two o'clock, but Yi Laotou ended up playing with Rod until two. As soon as he closed his eyes, he thought of Dajinqiang and couldn't fall asleep at all!
He didn't know if it was a late-night snack or breakfast that was ready; Yi Laotou called out to pack it up and take it on the boat to eat!
Where can't you eat? How could fishing be delayed for a meal?
With Yi Laotou on board, they set off from Cong Jiang Xing at two in the morning, leisurely beginning their journey. On Yi Laotou's boat, they couldn't go too fast; what should have been a three-hour journey took over four hours. By the time they found a good Fishing Spot, it was already bright outside.
They started fishing around dawn; Wang Gou caught one fish, Sun Lang also caught one, while Oka had worse luck and caught an underage fish. Yi Laotou proudly became the Air Force, which made Scallion Ginger Fishy too afraid to catch any fish!
Then this apprentice Scallion Ginger Fishy became less favored and was sent to prepare lunch. Yi Laotou began consulting Sun Lang and the others about techniques for catching Tuna, preparing for a big catch later in the day!
While Yi Laotou was still enjoying the sea breeze, he didn't realize that Shi Ye had come back with Air Force and Lu Ya to steal home again. They caught a pound of Live Shrimp and were ready to bait the Fishing Spot but didn't expect Shi Chui to be one step ahead and had already cast his line there.
"Lao Shi, you arrived pretty early! Have you had any bites?" Shi Ye put down what he was holding and glanced at the bait bucket next to Shi Chui. It seemed they were well-prepared!
"Just arrived! First cast!" After finishing his sentence, Shi Chui moved the bait bucket closer and dumped two or three scoops of Wo Liao into the water. "Let you guys taste what it's like to be silenced by bait!"
With so much Wo Liao in the water, they might as well not compete here; it was time to move!
"Alright, you keep fishing; we'll check out the Pier!" After handing Shi Chui a cigarette and gathering their things, they turned around and jumped onto the half-repaired Pier before heading out into the sea.
The water there was deeper, with rocks below; surely the fish would be just as plentiful there as here.
They found a flat spot, set up their gear, and brought up a bucket of water to prepare the Wo Liao first.
With their rods cast out, the three divided their tasks and began probing the bottom. This area of water was unfamiliar to them; without understanding the terrain here, fishing wouldn't be easy.
In deeper waters, they fished in shallower spots. All around them was deep water except for a raised area where fish were most likely to gather.
Fishing shallow in deep water is quite different from fishing deep in shallow water; when everything around is shallow but there's a deep pit at a marked spot, that's where fish tend to hide.
Sea Fishing differs from Freshwater Fishing; when fishing in freshwater, drifting can be quite troublesome. However, Sea Fishing relies on drifting to attract fish to bite; if drifting stops, the catch rate drops significantly.
For catching upper-layer Largemouth Bass or Niu Gang Mackerel and other fish like them, it's not so complicated—just find the right water layer and cast your rod. Moreover, these types of fish have a wide range of movement; sometimes you can catch them even when fishing at the bottom.
They were fishing for Shi Ban, which meant they could only fish at the bottom, leading to a slow and tedious process. After adjusting the bait and setting the float, Rod cast his line and added a few scoops of Wo Liao, settling in to wait patiently.
This morning, Liu Xiaoguang called me, saying he wanted to invite us out for a meal. Rod cast his line again, and Lu Ya turned to Shi Ye and spoke.
Liu Xiaoguang was the grandson of Old Liu. Shi Ye had met him a few times but didn’t have much interaction with him. The Air Force was quite familiar with Lu Ya; they had a history filled with animosity, largely due to Liu Xiaoguang's name, which had caused them quite a bit of trouble in their youth.
Liu Xiaoguang had once been just another kid, but he got into Harbin Institute of Technology through his own efforts. After graduating, he joined the Navy, and since then, opportunities to meet had dwindled. I heard he was doing well in the Navy.
In fact, Liu Xiaoguang lived not far from here; the distance could be measured in meters. However, the military had its own rules. No matter how close you lived, you couldn’t just come and go as you pleased, especially not to drink with Lu Ya and the Air Force, who were considered academic underachievers!
Later on, when the top student was overshadowed by the underachievers, he had even more reason to stay within the military camp—after all, it would be embarrassing!
There’s an old saying: "No one visits without a reason." That evening, I had made plans with Ling Er to have seafood together, so I didn’t have time to join him for dinner. If he wanted to see me, he’d have to come over! After thinking for a moment, Shi Ye turned to Lu Ya and said.
Having seafood that evening was out of the question. Lu Ying Er and Li Ziyu were already under Yun Wan'er's wing; we didn’t even know what time they would be home! There was no way I could spare time for Liu Xiaoguang.
However, since Liu Xiaoguang had reached out, it would be courteous to meet him at least once for Old Liu's sake!
