As Old Zhou dashed through the town like his backside was on fire, Huang Widow was momentarily stunned. Just how big was that Jiao Jiao Fish he had caught? The noise it made could rival that of a Duck.
Wait a minute, that was definitely the sound of a Duck! Old Zhou must have struck it rich; not only had he opened such a large shop, but he was also treating people to Duck every day. At this rate, his Ducks would soon be all gone!
He sprinted from the riverside to the shop, clutching the Duck and fish as he slipped into the backyard. After a moment of catching his breath, his heart racing like a drum, he vowed never to engage in such sneaky business again—it was far too nerve-wracking!
Following Old Zhou into the backyard, Shi Tian watched as Old Zhou leaned against the wall, panting heavily. Was it really that serious just to catch a chicken?
"What's wrong, Uncle Zhou? Were you chased by a dog?" Shi Tian asked anxiously. Was Old Zhou having a heart attack? How did one perform first aid? CPR? With his strength, he could manage chest compressions, but artificial respiration? He couldn’t bring himself to do that with Old Zhou’s rugged face!
Glancing at Li Ziyu, he quickly shook his head. If artificial respiration was necessary and he had to choose between helping Old Zhou or Li Ziyu, he figured it would be best to give Old Zhou a solid push—at most, he could help him with compressions. Whether Old Zhou could hold on until help arrived was up to him!
“It's fine; just keep going. Start preparing the Duck. You can rest over there; I’ll call you when it’s ready.” After taking a moment to recover, Old Zhou opened the bag and pulled out Huang Widow's Duck. With swift movements, he set water to boil.
Just hold on a bit longer; once the water boiled and the Duck was plucked, even if Huang Widow showed up, there would be no evidence left behind.
Sitting aside and watching Old Zhou expertly pluck the feathers from the Duck, Shi Tian noted that Old Zhou was quite meticulous. As soon as he plucked the feathers, he cleaned them up immediately and even rinsed the ground with water.
While Old Zhou dealt with the Duck, Shi Tian and Li Ziyu were busy too. They found a basin and dumped the fish inside while Shi Tian took charge of cleaning it.
Li Ziyu busied herself picking vegetables—her technique had been taught by Shi Tian himself. Eager to fill their stomachs quickly, even the Capital City Little Princess had taken matters into her own hands.
With such good ingredients at hand, Shi Tian certainly wouldn’t let Old Zhou do all the work. Li Ziyu had traveled all this way just for this meal; she wanted to take charge of cooking it herself.
With a roaring fire stove, everything cooked quickly. Two meat dishes and a soup were prepared; Shi Tian added a flavorful eggplant dish and set it on the table as they began to devour their meal.
After finishing a bowl of rice and feeling less hungry, Shi Tian and Li Ziyu started to pay attention to their table manners.
“Uncle Zhou, what’s wrong? You seem lost in thought; you didn’t steal this Duck, did you?”
Old Zhou’s demeanor while handling the Duck seemed off. Earlier when they were cooking together under his guidance, he had appeared distracted.
“How did you know?” Shi Tian joked casually, causing Old Zhou to jump up from his chair in shock.
“Right! You can tell fortunes! That’s incredible! How could you know something like this?”
Looking at half-eaten Duck on their plates, Shi Tian exchanged glances with Li Ziyu. How did Old Zhou end up in such trouble over stealing a Duck to treat them?
“Come on! Tell us what’s going on!” Setting down his chopsticks with interest, Shi Tian focused intently on Old Zhou.
Old Zhou had raised many Ducks; how could they have disappeared in such a short time?
After being pressed by Shi Tian for answers, Old Zhou immediately began to confess his misdeeds.
