The Bighead Carp was finally reeled in, and the debt was settled. A quick edit of the footage would suffice for a video, especially with Shi Tian getting slapped in the face by Sun Lang; the twist came too quickly.
I took out a pack of Azure Wind Antelope and handed it to Qing Yu Ge. Meeting is a form of fate, so consider this pack of Azure Wind Antelope as a small gift.
I helped Kang Ziyu and Sun Lang gather their things and stood behind the elder, waiting for him to catch a fish before we could leave.
"Kid, I think using your rod wouldn't be a bad idea!" I glanced at him; his rod looked quite sturdy! After a few hours of practice, the elder's Mandarin had improved, though it still carried a hint of vinegar.
"That one won't do. That rod is custom-made. Once you've used that rod, you won't find the same feel with any other!"
"Hey, there's a bite! Pay attention, wait until it takes it deep before you strike! Count to one, two, three, four, six, seven!" Hearing the elder call out about his customized rod made Shi Tian firmly refuse.
"The ordinary rod is decent enough; selling a few big fish would allow you to buy one. But if you want a customized rod, most old folks really can't afford it."
Once he heard there was a bite, the elder stopped worrying about Shi Tian's customized rod. He focused intently on the float, gripping his rod tightly. When the float dipped black, he lifted the rod; this fish was much stronger than the Carp!
This time, there was no need for words. Qing Yu Ge picked up the landing net and grabbed the fishing box before coming over. He had no fish left on his end and was just waiting for Shi Tian and the others to leave so he could rush over to claim the spot.
"Come on, put some strength into it! Don't worry; this rod is sturdy!" Standing behind the elder and watching him calmly play with the fish made Qing Yu Ge feel a bit anxious.
Sun Lang and Shi Tian packed up their things; several fishing buddies were already squeezing their way over with their gear. Sun Lang's fishing spot had already been claimed by a middle-aged man, which made the elder fume with frustration.
While watching the elder enjoy his catch, Shi Tian stood up and went to the car to grab a stack of hooks. He strolled along the lake slowly, handing them out to anyone he encountered.
Fishermen have their favorite brands of fishing gear; getting them to switch brands all at once is quite difficult. Not just fishermen—many people stick to brands they trust and are reluctant to try new ones in the future.
The same goes for hooks; asking them to spend money on new hooks isn't very realistic. However, if they receive them for free and get used to them, even if they have to pay later on, they'll seek out Star Brand Hooks.
After using hooks for a while, if they break often enough, they'll just go buy Xingpai Line!
And then what? The rod breaks! To avenge that big fish that got away, eating instant noodles for a month just to buy a Star Brand Rod seems reasonable!
The Star Brand Rod is high-end but not a luxury item. It can be positioned as high-end gear but should be marketed as luxury goods—this is something Apple does quite well.
I'm not particularly skilled at this kind of thing. I’ll mention it to Sun Lang and let him arrange for the Unreliable Duo to come up with a marketing strategy. Understanding marketing talk means this kind of promotion won't cost much; it's just about writing some plans and finding some online support.
After making my rounds, I saw that the fish on the elder's rod had given up struggling. Qing Yu Ge was already in the water with his landing net while the elder still wouldn't bring the fish up.
"Elder, how does this Rodman feel? Do you think it's worth a thousand bucks?" I walked over to him with a slight smile.
"Definitely worth it!"
"And even more! Here, hand me that rod; I'll show you how it's done!" Before he could react, I took hold of his rod and dragged the fish up while Qing Yu Ge skillfully scooped it into the landing net.
