Taking the cigarette that Brother Xu passed over, Shi Tian casually replied while tidying up the bait tray, dividing the Plastic Particles between the two of them.
"Brother Xu, aren't there a lot of crocodiles in Africa? There shouldn't be any in this river, right?" He recalled watching a nature documentary where African crocodiles would stealthily swim from the depths to the shore, suddenly lunging out to drag a Gnu antelope straight into the water.
Domestic crocodiles seemed much cuter; even if they charged at you, a couple of Wang Wang biscuits would easily distract them. Because of his fear of crocodiles, he positioned himself further back at the fishing spot, more than a meter away from the bank.
"There shouldn't be any! We fish here often and have never seen a crocodile. Don't worry; there are plenty of people living around here. If there were any crocodiles, those Tanzanians would have taken care of them long ago."
Now that they had their bait, the two didn't have time to chat with Shi Tian. They quickly cast their lines before it got dark.
"Xiao Tian, what are you doing in Africa? You’re not just here for fun, are you?" As he lifted his rod again, he caught another carp weighing over a pound. Old An felt invigorated; using Plastic Particles was indeed satisfying.
Shi Tian had seen Old An's car; it hadn't even covered three hundred kilometers combined. It was clear that he hadn't driven it from home. There were no such cars around here; if he were traveling, he wouldn't have started from this place. He must be planning to stay for a while.
Having done nothing but being exiled here to fend for himself, he was preparing to live off fishing. But fish were too cheap here; Saltwater Fish went uneaten, and even sea fish were priced like vegetables. He was still searching for a way to make a living.
Half-jokingly and half-seriously, he remarked that Shi Tian had caught another fish, still just small fry. It seemed he needed to switch to a bigger Hook. "If I change to Ise Nii, these little fish should still be around!"
Finding food wasn't easy here; whenever boredom struck, he could head over to their Project Department. With his cooking skills, he could easily make twenty thousand a month. Looking at Shi Tian with skepticism, Old An couldn't believe his exaggerated claims.
He believed Shi Tian had been sent to Africa but found it hard to imagine him finding food easily. It seemed likely that his family had arranged for him to come here and face some hardships. The last time Old An saw A Heng accompanying him, although they joked around, A Heng was clearly there to support Shi Tian.
Being dispatched here likely meant he was responsible for business in this area—training with someone for a while before returning home to continue farming. This was just Old An's speculation.
Twenty thousand a month sounded quite practical; that pay was higher than what truck drivers or frontline workers earned—around one hundred fifty thousand annually. If a chef like Old An could earn twenty thousand monthly, it indicated that he held some power in the Project Department.
However, suggesting that he cook for large groups was out of the question! With that time, it would be better to figure out how to sell a few Engines—thirty thousand each—and if he sold three or five units, he'd become a local tycoon!
"Alright then! When I can't manage anymore, I'll come running to you; you better not turn me away!" Shi Tian laughed and agreed. It seemed his culinary skills were quite marketable; wherever he went, he wouldn't starve!
Thinking of Yi Laotou, he pulled out his phone and decided to video call him so he could experience the raw beauty of Africa too.
Once the video connected and froze on the screen, Shi Tian checked the signal; supporting video calls was still somewhat challenging. He figured he'd better get a small Router for the car later! Otherwise, once they left the area, there would be no internet access—too inconvenient!
