Chen Xuan returned to Chen Family Village. His expression was somewhat downcast; he had spent the entire afternoon trying to reach Professor Yang on the phone, but to no avail. This left him feeling empty and disheartened.
As he walked toward his home, he spotted Chen Dahai and Zhang Cuifang standing at the door, chatting and laughing while cracking sunflower seeds. Zhang Cuifang occasionally looked up toward the entrance.
The moment Chen Xuan approached, Zhang Cuifang's eyes lit up with joy. "Xiao Xuan is back!" she exclaimed.
Not in a good mood? Chen Dahai noticed his son's low spirits and quickly expressed his concern.
"It's nothing," Chen Xuan replied with a forced smile, not wanting to worry his mother. He planned to head upstairs for a rest.
Chen Dahai and his wife exchanged glances, knowing better than to stop their son.
Suddenly, Zhang Cuifang called out to Chen Xuan, "Son, there's been a silly fellow looking for you all afternoon."
Silly fellow? Looking for me?
Chen Xuan paused, puzzled. When had he ever met a silly person?
Zhang Cuifang smirked slightly and said, "He was running back and forth with a bowl of water, sweating profusely, looking for you several times as if he really knew you."
"He's a chubby guy, friendly and always smiling," Chen Dahai added.
Ha!
Chen Xuan couldn't help but laugh. His mother's playful banter lifted his spirits, and the weight of his earlier disappointment vanished.
With a smile still on his face, Chen Xuan was about to head upstairs when a sudden thought struck him. The image of the Celestial Messenger Old Xin flashed in his mind. Could this silly fellow be Old Xin? Was Old Xin looking for me?
Anxious?
Could it be that demons have arrived?
Chen Xuan's eyes suddenly brightened, and his heart raced with excitement. Just because he couldn’t do anything about the situation in the Barren Land didn’t mean that the Celestial Messenger or Old Xin couldn’t. Perhaps the demons he brought could resolve this predicament!
With that thought, Chen Xuan turned around eagerly and set off.
The Farm was not far away.
Chen Xuan scanned the surroundings with anticipation, but he didn’t see Old Xin anywhere.
The Watermelon Demon approached and whispered, “My lord, the messenger has come several times this afternoon but couldn’t find you.”
“I see,” Chen Xuan thought to himself, realizing it was indeed Old Xin. He just wondered what kind of demon Old Xin had brought him this time and whether it would be effective for the Barren Land.
Remembering the Barren Land, Chen Xuan instinctively strode toward it.
It was still a desolate gray, devoid of any greenery.
Sigh.
Chen Xuan silently sighed in his heart; he felt helpless and could only hope for a miracle to occur.
Beep beep.
At that moment, a car horn suddenly sounded behind him. Chen Xuan turned in surprise to see a large vehicle parked by the roadside, and Wang Xiong was smiling as he opened the car door.
Several figures stepped out.
One familiar silhouette made Chen Xuan's gaze freeze instantly.
Professor Yang!
“Chen Xuan!” he exclaimed in surprise, tears welling up in his eyes as he ran over excitedly.
“Xiao Chen!” Professor Yang also felt emotional upon seeing his long-lost disciple and couldn't help but shed tears.
“Professor Yang, what brings you here?” Chen Xuan joyfully embraced Professor Yang and laughed.
“I happened to come to Jianghe City for a meeting today and ran into Wang,” Professor Yang replied with a hearty laugh. “Xiao Chen, I’ve tasted the watermelons you grew; they were absolutely delicious!”
"Haha! Professor Yang, I like it. I'll bring a few for you later."
"Then I won't be polite!" Professor Yang laughed, chatting with Chen Xuan as if they were long-lost friends.
Wang stood to the side, smiling and not interrupting Chen Xuan and Professor Yang's reunion.
The girl and two boys that Professor Yang brought along were secretly observing Chen Xuan.
