Chen Xuan stood amidst the scattered bodies of San Huang Chickens.
There were three Chicken Coops in total, but the one that had been poisoned was the first one Chen Xuan had started working on. Now, five thousand San Huang Chickens lay quietly on the ground, foam at their mouths, dead beyond recovery.
Sighing, Chen Xuan turned to Jin Xiong and Watermelon Demon, who had rushed over. "It's a tough job, but we need to find a place to bury them."
"Alright!" Jin Xiong and Watermelon Demon echoed with a shared sense of regret as they began to work.
After a long while, Chen Xuan had dug a large pit in the back mountain and buried the five thousand San Huang Chickens. The first Chicken Coop was now rendered useless; it would take at least a month to recover. Roughly calculating, Chen Xuan realized he had directly lost around ten thousand in income—a significant blow.
Damn it! I swear I’ll find out who did this!
Fuming, Chen Xuan clenched his fists, his mind racing as he frantically pondered who could have targeted him. Unfortunately, after thinking for a long time, he still couldn't figure out who the culprit was.
With no other options, Chen Xuan headed towards Holy Spirit Lake, determined to resolve the negative impact of the poisoning once and for all.
Standing by the shore and gazing at the calm waters of Holy Spirit Lake, he couldn’t help but murmur, "Those few bottles of Deadly Poison shouldn’t have any adverse effects on Holy Spirit Lake, right?"
"Not at all!" Jin Xiong replied firmly from beside him. "You underestimate Holy Spirit Lake! This is the dwelling place of that esteemed being; a mere bit of Deadly Poison could never contaminate these waters!"
"Look at the Silver Fish in this lake; isn't there something wrong?"
Chen Xuan focused his gaze, observing the Silver Fish residing in Holy Spirit Lake, swimming leisurely without a hint of disturbance.
"That's good."
Chen Xuan let out a sigh of relief. In the midst of misfortune, it was fortunate that the Deadly Poison had not affected Holy Spirit Lake. After all, the lifeblood of the entire Farm depended on Holy Spirit Lake. If anything were to happen to it, Chen Xuan would have nowhere to cry.
He felt grateful that the mastermind behind it all had not targeted the orchard. No, all his hard work over such a long time would be wasted.
Suddenly, Chen Xuan raised an eyebrow, recalling something. He looked up at the towering tree above him. "Where is Qing Yao? Why hasn't she shown up?"
Jin Xiong shook his head, indicating he was unsure.
Could she have been poisoned too? A trace of worry crossed Chen Xuan's brow.
"Master," at that moment, the Watermelon Demon whispered, "I just saw Qing Yao Gong appear. She glanced at Zheng Hai and then started crying sadly. She must be hiding in the tree and crying now."
Crying?
Chen Xuan exchanged glances with Jin Xiong and nodded silently.
This behavior is indeed typical of Qing Yao.
Forget it, I'll comfort him later.
Chen Xuan shook his head, gathering several large buckets to prepare for washing away the soil of Zheng Hai, which had been contaminated by poison, along with Jin Xiong Yao. As for the Chicken Coop, the polluted water trough had just been discarded by Chen Xuan.
Just as Chen Xuan was about to get to work, a commotion arose in the distance. A group of people hurriedly approached, and among them was the Old Village Chief.
The Old Village Chief called out anxiously, "Xiao Chen, I heard that your Farm has been poisoned?"
News travels fast, Chen Xuan muttered with a smile, "Yes, the losses are quite significant."
The Old Village Chief walked over and glanced at the nearby Zheng Hai, his gaze quickly shifting to the orchard and Chicken Coop before looking back at Chen Xuan.
Chen Xuan sighed helplessly, "One of the three Chicken Coops has died, and egg production has dropped by half; everything else is fine." He continued, "This area of Zheng Hai is ruined and needs to be cleared and redone."
The Old Village Chief breathed a sigh of relief; clearly, this loss was still within an acceptable range.
"Alas!" The Old Village Chief suddenly sighed deeply and said indignantly, "How can someone do such a thing! Xiao Chen, I have already reported it to the police. Do you have any clues?"
"Not yet," Chen Xuan replied seriously.
Chen Xuan looked up and glanced at the group of villagers from Chen Family Village behind Old Village Chief. He smiled knowingly, suggesting that perhaps it wasn't necessarily someone from their own ranks who had done it. As soon as he said this, Chen Dafeng's expression changed slightly.
