The call connected, and on the other end was Liu Yueming's weary voice.
"Senior Brother, why are you calling?"
Chen Xuan sighed internally, feeling a sense of reproach. "I know how you feel, silly girl. At a time like this, why didn’t you call me?"
"I'm fine, I can hold on," Liu Yueming replied weakly.
However, Chen Xuan, being perceptive, could clearly hear her soft sobs right after he spoke.
He shook his head gently and said in a soothing tone, "How is your father doing now? Is he recovering?"
"He's getting better. The doctor said he can be discharged in a few days."
"Oh."
Chen Xuan nodded thoughtfully and then asked, "The teacher has already set off for Nong Wang Group."
"Don’t worry. With the teacher's abilities, I'm sure the Corn Project will achieve great breakthroughs!"
"Mm-hmm."
Liu Yueming nodded, her previously gloomy tone lightening with a hint of joy. She smiled and said, "I know! The teacher called me too, and I believe in him."
But then her tone fell again. She whispered, "However, the project hasn’t made any progress lately and has consumed a lot of our group's liquidity."
"The outside world doesn’t have much faith in our group’s future, and many people internally are pushing to halt the project."
Chen Xuan was somewhat taken aback. He inquired further and soon realized that the situation was more complicated than he had anticipated.
Nong Wang Group was actually a family business.
Liu Yueming was close to Liu Hao and his uncle, Liu Haodong, who were the two major shareholders of the company. Liu Hao had always advocated for an independent research and development approach, while Liu Haodong consistently pushed for a foreign agency route. Over the years, despite their differing opinions, the two brothers managed to coexist peacefully—until the Monsanto Group launched their astonishingly high-yield Corn Seed, which ignited a fierce rivalry between them.
Now, Liu Hao was exhausted and hospitalized, leaving Liu Haodong in control of the Nong Wang Group. Rumor had it that he was quite dissatisfied with Liu Yueming's leadership of the Corn Project and had been secretly contacting personnel from Monsanto Group, preparing to abandon their own corn business in favor of acting as agents for Monsanto's corn.
After hearing Liu Yueming's words, Chen Xuan raised an eyebrow. If Liu Haodong truly thought this way, then the trip for his teacher and the others would undoubtedly be fraught with difficulties. Chen Xuan couldn't help but feel a bit more worried about Professor Yang's journey.
Fortunately, Liu Yueming assured him that she would return to the company tomorrow to represent her father, Liu Hao, and exercise his authority. She promised that she would not let the Corn Project fall through.
Liu Yueming's words eased Chen Xuan's concerns slightly. He smiled and said, "Yueming, don't worry. Both my teacher and I will support you! If there are any issues with the project, remember to call me; I'll be there as soon as possible."
"Okay, I know," Liu Yueming replied happily.
After chatting for a while longer, Chen Xuan hung up the phone. Turning around,
Chen Xuan was taken aback, noticing that Qing Yao had quietly appeared behind him, looking at him with a peculiar expression.
"What are you doing? Eavesdropping on me?" Chen Xuan said, a hint of anger in his voice.
"Not at all, just passing by," Qing Yao replied with a light snort. She looked at Chen Xuan with a strange expression and whispered with a laugh, "Were you just on the phone with a girl?"
Chen Xuan's face flushed red as he stammered, "What are you talking about?"
Ha!
Qing Yao placed her hands behind her back and said smugly, "Don't let my young age fool you. I've lived for hundreds of years, and I've seen plenty of relationships between men and women."
"You brat! It's obvious you're still a novice!"
Chen Xuan exclaimed, "That's too much! I've only been here a few days, and look at how things have changed!"
