Chen Xuan looked at the familiar figure in the garden and called out tentatively, "Ah! Xiao Chen, you’re back!"
Wang Xiong stepped out of the garden with a spirited demeanor, holding a pen in his hand.
Once Chen Xuan confirmed it was indeed Wang Xiong, he secretly sighed in relief and quietly tossed away the stick he had been holding.
Clink.
The stick hit the ground.
Wang Xiong raised an eyebrow and chuckled awkwardly, "Little Brother Chen, it’s only been a few days since we last met. Have you forgotten about me?"
"Not at all," Chen Xuan shrugged and smiled. "It’s just that my garden attracts too much attention. I have to be extra cautious with people trying to get in every few days."
"I know that," Wang Xiong said, his face lighting up with excitement as he continued, "I just tasted the water from inside the garden, Little Brother Chen! You really have something special here; the taste is simply amazing."
"Nothing compares to your water!" he exclaimed with a playful snort.
Chen Xuan lightly scoffed and casually replied, "Then hurry up and bring people over to pick it. If you don’t act fast, our cooperation might fall through."
"That can’t happen!" Wang Xiong immediately became anxious upon hearing this. He raised the pen in his hand and grinned, "I’m here now! I’ve already marked everything in my garden."
"No one will dare to mess with it!"
"Marked?" Chen Xuan looked up into the garden and noticed many trees had Wang Xiong's exclusive markings indicating they were reserved.
"You’re quite the rogue!" Chen Xuan shook his head with a smile. He waved his hand dismissively and said, "Just make sure I don’t lose out on the price."
"The price will definitely satisfy you!" Wang Xiong flattered him, "It won’t be lower than ten times the market rate."
"Alright then."
Chen Xuan waved his hand dismissively and walked away, feeling a bit disheartened. He still needed to check on his farm.
"Hey, Brother Chen!"
At that moment, Wang Xiong suddenly stopped Chen Xuan. He looked him up and down and cautiously asked, "Is something bothering you?"
"If you have something on your mind, feel free to share. I’ve been through a lot; maybe I can help."
"You?"
Chen Xuan glanced up at Wang Xiong, shook his head with a smile, and said, "Thanks for your concern, but the problem I'm facing right now is something you probably can't help with."
With that, Chen Xuan turned to leave.
Wang Xiong stroked his chin, watching Chen Xuan's retreating figure with a thoughtful expression. He glanced at the invaluable garden and then looked over at the nearby chicken coop. After pondering for a while, he nodded seriously and headed toward the small courtyard.
Inside the courtyard at that moment, Jin Xiong and Ye Xiao were preoccupied with something, leaving only the Watermelon Demon and Gong Sun He. The two of them—one old and one young—were squatting on the ground soaking up the sun.
Wang Xiong was familiar with the Watermelon Demon, but he hadn’t seen Gong Sun He much before. However, Wang Xiong wasn’t one to hold back; he greeted them warmly and pulled out a cigarette to offer Gong Sun He.
Gong Sun He scoffed with a smirk, "So you’re the boss's friend?"
"That's right!" Wang Xiong chuckled. "A friend of a friend is still a friend, right?"
"Pah!"
Gong Sun He spat in response, a cold smile creeping onto his face. "So you want to persuade me to help that kid, huh? Let me tell you, unless you make me happy, I will never bow down!"
Happy?
Wang Xiong felt a bit bewildered, but he sensed that he had stumbled upon some crucial information. He looked at Gong Sun He and chuckled softly, "Old man, what does the boss want you to do?"
"What does it matter? If you don't even know that, why are you asking?" Gong Sun He scoffed.
Wang Xiong remained undeterred, grinning as he continued to inquire, "So what would it take for you to help out?"
"I already said! You need to make me feel happy again!" Gong Sun He replied sternly.
Happy?
Wang Xiong blinked, struggling to grasp what Gong Sun He meant by happiness. However, the commonality among men led him to guess the answer. Suddenly enlightened, he laughed and said, "You mean—"
"Mm."
Gong Sun He nodded slightly, adopting an air of a wise sage.
