Xu Li hurriedly pecked at the ground like a little chick, not waiting for him to continue speaking. He held onto his cigarette and remained silent. Popov suddenly stood up, stepping on a chair and reaching under the table to pull out something. 0

Xu Li was genuinely scared to tears, exclaiming, "Don't scare me, okay? Boohoo, I want to go home!" 0

Popov scratched his big nose and turned to Old Andrei, asking, "What should we do?" Seeing Andrei wave his hand dismissively, he shrugged and shoved whatever it was back under the table as if nothing had happened. He then tilted his head back and downed a full glass of vodka, burping, "You really are timid; you’re nowhere near as tough as we were back in the day." 0

Natasha punched her husband lightly and said, "Look at you! You think you’re doing something good? How old is he? What if he gets scared for real?" 0

Boys can handle a bit of fright; maybe it’ll make him braver. 0

Andrei shrugged off her concern. Ivan's wife, Yuliya, stood up and walked over to Anna, whispering something in her ear. Anna glanced at the table full of food and then at Xu Li, who was still sobbing. She pursed her lips and took him back to her room. 0

Eva was munching on a chicken leg when she saw Anna and Xu Li return to the room. Thinking they were playing a game, she followed them with her half-eaten chicken leg. Yuliya gave Eva's plump bottom a light slap and said, "Make sure to cheer him up, okay? You three will be good friends from now on." 0

Eva, who was just over six feet tall, bounced into the room and saw her new friend still crying. After thinking for a moment, she held out her half-eaten chicken leg to Xu Li and said, "Please stop crying! I’ll share my chicken leg with you; it’s really tasty!" 0

Xu Li wiped his tears away and looked at Eva's innocent face. He gently pushed her hand back with the chicken leg. "You eat it." 0

"Alright then," Eva replied cheerfully as she continued eating. 0

Meanwhile, Anna poked Xu Li's cheek with her greasy fingers and teased him, "You’re a boy; why are you so timid? We often play with that toy Popov has; he just wants to scare you." 0

Xu Li immediately sensed something was off. "What toy are you talking about?" 0

"That one!" Anna replied innocently. "Uncle Popov often brings us along to play with Natasha. We even use it to fry fish! The water splashes everywhere; we catch so many fish that we can’t fit them all in a bucket!" 0

"Yeah! Uncle Youan’s house has tanks too!" Eva chimed in. 0

Eva tossed the chicken bone into the trash can and was about to wipe her dirty hands on her clothes when Xu Li grabbed her wrist. He picked up a wet towel from the table and wiped her hands clean. "You shouldn’t wipe your hands on your clothes; otherwise, they’ll get dirty and look bad." 0

"Oh," Eva said, watching Xu Li clean her hands. Her cheeks flushed as she added shyly, "You’re really good-looking, unlike my dad and brother; their faces are all hairy and ugly." 0

Xu Li smiled and wiped Anna's greasy hands again. Their fingers, delicate and fair, suggested that they hardly did any work at all. He stood up, put the towel away, and glanced around the room. 0

In one corner of the room was a large bed, facing a row of wardrobes. A narrow passageway was left in between. On the wall at the foot of the bed, there was a window, and to the right of the door stood a TV cabinet against the wall, which held a nearly new bulky color television. 0

Beside the TV cabinet was a fabric curtain leading to the bathroom. In the southern part of the room, there was a table piled high with snacks and some photographs. As he took his time surveying the room, he slowly made his way to the window and leaned out, only to meet several pairs of bright green eyes staring back at him. 0
