Xu Haigui understood what he meant and sighed, nodding his head. "There's no way around it. Our company has only so many orders; we can't just keep relying on the old ones, can we? A few buyers mentioned lowering prices recently because some big manufacturers have found new suppliers. I'm also feeling the pressure here."
"How about we try beef and lamb?" The manager pulled out his smartphone and displayed some news articles he had seen that morning, sliding the device over to Xu Haigui. "Our working conditions are getting better, but there's a huge gap in meat supply. Most domestic producers are small-scale, and there aren't many large companies. Why don't we consider transforming while we still have some profit from our orders?"
Zhang Gang interjected, "You know you have shares in this company. If the transformation fails, we'll all be in trouble."
Zhang Gang smiled wryly. "Am I not aware? It's precisely because I know that I suggested this. Companies in the West are becoming increasingly unfriendly towards us, and I doubt we'll gain much in terms of technology from them."
"Our company is importing raw materials while also trying to bring in technology. The raw materials part is manageable, but the technology side is much more complicated. Those bastards only offer us soon-to-be-obsolete technology; we won't make much profit while constantly having to bow to them. It might be better to focus solely on raw materials or something else entirely."
Xu Haigui rubbed his face while holding a cigarette. "Let's finish our current orders first. Anyway, the technology transfer agreements will expire in a year or two; we can discuss it with a few others then."
"Alright," Zhang Gang nodded. "What did they say over at San?"
"Calculate how much profit there is. If it's decent, let's try collaborating first. The domestic real estate market is booming, and the timber industry has great prospects; we won't have trouble finding buyers."
"There will definitely be profits; it's just a matter of how much."
Zhang Gang chuckled and continued chatting with Xu Haigui. They spent about an hour discussing matters in the office.
The baby kicked me.
In the bedroom, Eva lay on her side snoring softly while Anna leaned against the headboard, rubbing her round belly. Xu Li was crouched by the bed, grinning widely. "Let's remember this; when that little rascal grows up, I'll help you kick him back."
"No!" Anna glared at Xu Li while hugging her belly indignantly. "You can't bully my baby!"
"Alright, alright, I won't bully him; I was just joking with you." He got up and kissed Anna on the forehead. "Let's get up and tidy ourselves; we have a check-up at the hospital today."
"Okay."
Anna playfully smacked Eva's backside as she lay with her butt in the air. "Get up! We need to go for your check-up!"
Eva waved her hand dismissively while still snoring, prompting Anna to mumble something incomprehensible in a foreign language as she slipped on her slippers. It took quite a while for Xu Li to finally rouse the sleepy Eva, coaxing her out of bed despite her crankiness.
The dining table was filled with a sumptuous breakfast as the sisters happily ate together. Natasha had gained quite a bit of weight and cheerfully brought Xu Li a plate of fried eggs. "There are just over ten days left until your due date; we need to prepare some things in advance."
Good Mom
Xu Li said, "Let's go to the mall when we get back. I don't know much about what we need, so you can just tell me what to buy."
"Alright, sounds good," she replied with a smile.
