The ones waiting at the airport were Elder Brother Ivan and Second Brother Yuri. After exchanging warm embraces, Ivan looked at his sleeping nephew and cheerfully kissed him on the forehead. They picked up their luggage and exited the airport. Natasha gazed at the military green vehicle in front of her and couldn't help but exclaim, "What a beautiful car!"
The spacious body of the vehicle provided ample room as the family chatted and laughed on their way to Ivan's home. Yuliya had prepared food well in advance. Watching the group embrace each other, Xu Li opened the trunk and took out two black fur coats. "Sister Yuliya, Sister Natasha, these are for you. Try them on!"
"Thank you, Misha!" The two sisters-in-law took the coats, kissed him on the cheek, and hurried off to look in the mirror. Several nephews and nieces greeted him in turn, and he grinned as he presented them with gifts he had brought back. One nephew looked at the fruit machine in his hands and gave him a big hug, saying, "Thank you, Uncle!"
The younger ones also came forward with their favorite toys, showering him with kisses. Ivan smiled but said nothing as the family enjoyed a joyful dinner together. Before leaving, Yuri and his wife picked up gifts that Xu Li had prepared for their children and waved goodbye as they headed downstairs.
Once Natasha got into the car, she opened the bag to find that each gift was labeled with a name. The gift for her eldest daughter was also a fruit machine, which made her heart swell with happiness, knowing that Little Sister hadn’t forgotten about Er Ge's children.
Early the next morning, just before getting into the car, Ivan handed over his driver's license and other documents to Xu Li. "Misha, are you sure you can drive?"
"Of course! I wouldn't risk my family's lives just to boast."
Xu Li stuffed a thick stack of Rubles into Ivan's hands, waved goodbye to him and Yuliya, then stepped on the gas and drove off. The money he gave Ivan was reimbursement for connections made on his behalf.
The snowy weather was not friendly to drivers, so he remained focused throughout the journey. Fortunately, the car performed well, allowing him to return to the village safely by afternoon. Along the way, they passed through Bratsk and took a brief rest at Vasily's place.
Woof woof woof!
Da Hei, who had been curled up in its doghouse out of boredom despite Andrei’s daily pampering, barked energetically upon hearing the familiar sounds. Andrei threw on a coat and stepped outside to see what was happening. As he caught sight of the slowly approaching vehicle, he couldn't help but exclaim in delight, "Wow! What a beauty!"
"Dad!"
The first to get out of the car was Eva, who rushed over to give him a big hug. Next came Anna, followed by Natasha. After Xu Li parked the car properly, he shook hands with Andrei. "Dad."
"Now you're a dad too!"
Andrei's joy was evident in his eyes but he still tried to maintain an air of authority as he prepared to lecture his son-in-law. Natasha glanced down at his plastic slippers and smirked slightly. "Aren't you cold, old man?"
"Oh right! Where's my great-grandson?"
Old Russian cheerfully entered the house while Xu Li began unloading bags from the car. Suddenly he heard Da Hei muttering: "So it's that idiot back from eating shit! I thought so."
"Da Hei! You better watch your mouth or I’ll skin you alive!"
Xu Li was also getting angry; being insulted right after returning home wasn't pleasant for anyone.
Da Hei shot him a sideways glance before disinterestedly retreating its head back into its cozy doghouse.
