After Xu Li took off his shirt, Anan looked at the scars crisscrossing his body, causing the hairs on his neck to stand on end. He finally asked dryly, "What was your first thought when that bear fell on you?"
Xu Li chuckled. "At that moment, I felt completely relaxed. With the bear dead, my wife was safe. Then I felt fear and longing—longing for Zhang Ji Niang, who loves me and cares for me, and for my cold exterior but warm hearted father-in-law, as well as my obedient and lovely wife."
Sighing at this point, he picked up his glass and took a drink, as Anan had already waved the white flag of surrender.
"How about I make you a bowl of noodles? You’ve only been drinking and haven’t eaten much."
"No, no," Anan replied.
Stumbling to his feet, Anan leaned on Xu Li as they made their way to the guest room. He slowly sat on the edge of the bed, gazing at his sleeping wife. He couldn’t help but wonder: if he encountered a brown bear in the wild, would he charge in without hesitation to save her like Xu Li did?
With that thought in mind, he lay down and fell asleep.
In the following days, after the children woke up and enjoyed a delicious breakfast, they would ride horses at the ranch or play with hamsters in the yard. They imitated Sister Zhuoya by lying on top of two large hamsters to rest.
Anan was afraid that Xu Li would find it annoying, so he didn’t go live but instead recorded some footage from time to time.
"Are you bored? Let’s play with some local specialties."
After helping a cow give birth and ensuring everything was fine at the ranch, Xu Li returned to the yard. He found Anan and Dasha looking bored in the yard and opened the doors to the opposite warehouse. As the two wooden doors swung open, two brand new painted steel beasts were revealed, leaving the young couple wide-eyed.
Anan hesitated and shook her phone. "Brother Xu, can I record some video? I'm a content creator."
"Sure! All my weapons are legal here; feel free to film."
Xu Li chuckled as he walked inside, selecting weapons and checking them over. "Have you two played before?"
The couple nodded. Dasha excitedly said, "Anan forgot her passport, so she plays with blanks while I use real bullets. Rat-a-tat-tat!"
He even mimicked a shooting motion. Xu Li let them choose their guns while calling over Lao San and Old Liu. "You two haven't handled guns in a while; let's see how your aim is."
The two little guys shrugged nonchalantly. Zhuo Ya chose an export version while Peter opted for a high-precision rifle. The siblings skillfully loaded magazines, checked their weapons and accessories, and donned tactical vests filled with magazines and hanging two small grenades.
Their professional movements and speed made Anan doubt herself as she had just chosen a gun; was she even less capable than these kids?
They all headed to the shooting range behind the yard. First, Zhuo Ya and Peter practiced shooting while Anan filmed them. Once they emptied their magazines, it was finally time for the excited young couple.
Xu Li kissed Zhuo Ya on the forehead. "Zhuo Ya still performs steadily; unlike Old Liu here who can only shoot at fixed targets."
"But this is a sniper rifle, Dad!"
Xiao Lao Liu wanted to struggle a bit, but when Xu Li shot him a glare, he immediately shrank his neck and moved aside, quietly watching the couple practice their shooting.
Xu Li sat on a wooden stump, smoking a cigarette, occasionally praising the two for their accurate marksmanship. Lao San, regardless of the heat, tried his best to snuggle closer to his partner. Seeing this, Old Liu couldn't help but mutter a remark about being a sycophant, which earned him two angry glares in return.
