The little girl almost pressed her face against Xu Weihua's, causing him to lean back slightly. "It's true," he said.
He opened his photo album and pulled out a picture taken during the summer vacation, pointing at a shirtless man with Zhuo Ya sitting on his neck, while Xu Li held two local specialties in each hand. "This is my dad. You see those scars on his face and body? They were from that brown bear."
"Wow, your dad is so strong!" Angelina exclaimed as she looked at the man in the photo. Xu Weihua took the phone back. "That's right! After he killed the brown bear, he realized how weak he was and started hitting the gym every day. By summer, he could lift me up easily."
He chatted proudly with Angelina until Xu Weixia brought out the dishes. "Stop bragging and eat," he said.
"This is so delicious!" Angelina exclaimed after trying some sweet and sour potato shreds. Her eyes lit up, and without needing any prompting from the two brothers, she began to help herself to other dishes: tomato beef stew, sweet and sour pork tenderloin, stir-fried cabbage, and a seaweed egg drop soup—this was dinner for the day.
"Hey, you're going too far, buddy!" Xu Weixia exclaimed as he snatched the last piece of pork tenderloin. "You still have two pieces in your bowl!"
"Greedy," Angelina pouted, focusing on her meal. She quickly set down her fork and small bowl, grabbed a napkin to wipe her mouth, and leaned back in her chair. "Phew, I'm so full." *Burp!*
"That's just the beginning; I can eat much more," Xu Weixia boasted as he sipped his soup. He then patted his older brother's arm. "I've already donated my share for this month; don't forget to buy groceries tomorrow."
"Yeah, I was busy sending Anna home," Xu Weihua replied as he wiped his mouth and started clearing the table.
Angelina curiously looked at Xu Weixia. "Do you guys donate money every month?"
"Yes! Ever since we started donating, our mindset and attitude have changed completely," Xu Weixia grinned. "My brother and I get a living allowance of twenty thousand rubles each month. We don’t need to buy clothes or pay rent; we just buy some groceries to cook our meals and occasionally treat ourselves to snacks or a meal out."
"As time goes by, we end up with extra change in our pockets. We usually save it up together and donate it to those in need. Although it’s not a large amount, it’s our heartfelt contribution."
At this point, he chuckled. "After our first donation, my brother and I felt like heroes! Our parents praised us, and our grandparents called us good kids. Just thinking about their compliments motivated us to save more pocket money until it became a habit."
"So how much do you save up for each donation?" Angelina asked.
"About fifty thousand rubles," he replied as he raised his elbows for Xu Weihua to wipe the dining table. "At first, it wasn’t that much; when we were younger, we spent all our money on toys because we loved playing. Later on, we got into video games, but my dad wouldn’t let me spend money on them. Gradually, as I saved more change, I was able to donate more."
After wiping the table clean, Xu Weihua smiled. "Dad often teaches us that helping others within our means is a kindness; if you can't even take care of yourself but still want to help others, that's foolish!"
The two brothers exchanged a smile. Xu Weihua went to the kitchen to wash the dishes, while Xu Weixia continued chatting with Angelina. Suddenly, as if struck by a thought, he slapped his forehead and leaned in closer to Angelina with a hint of curiosity. "Do you know Yisha from the class next door?"
The Tian Hospital was packed, but thankfully the nurse had notified me in advance, so I didn’t make a wasted trip!
Here comes an extra chapter. Thank you all for the gifts that urged me to update and for your comments. I am immensely grateful!
