"Will this corn really grow?"
During the lunch break, Xu Li lit a cigarette for Zhong Ren, leaning back against the tiller as it hummed away. "If it sprouts, you’ve bought early-season sweet corn. But isn’t it a bit extravagant to feed this kind of corn to cattle?"
"Haha, you can't catch a wolf without letting go of the kid," Zhong Ren chuckled.
Xu Li laughed heartily. "I plan to buy all my beef domestically from now on. If I just go through the motions with breeding, my reputation will be ruined. I still have to put in the effort where it's due."
"Then we won't be able to afford your beef," Zhong Ren teased, laughing as he flicked away the cigarette butt and climbed back onto the tiller, turning it around to continue plowing the vast expanse of land. Xu Li had bought this large tract of land, and with Lekshev helping out, he was saving both money and effort.
For this cornfield, he had asked Anan’s relatives for help and hired over a dozen experienced hands from his hometown at a high price. Each would help him plant corn until it was ready for harvest, and once the corn was harvested, these workers would take their pay and return home to rest, only to come back when needed.
His short video account was currently managed by his wife, and all three of them had stable fan bases. Compared to him, the ugly man, the fan base of his two wives was quite impressive.
Xu Li mounted his Black Horse and galloped freely across his land, not forgetting to capture the scenery around him with his phone. "This vast land is my newly cultivated cornfield. Just buying corn every month is a significant investment; growing it myself is much more cost-effective."
As the tillers worked their way through the field, seeders followed closely behind, scattering seeds that represented hope. Lisa's father, Andrei, came back to the ranch with colleagues to work again.
This time they needed to expand several cattle sheds and also fence off the cornfield to prevent wild boars or other animals from causing damage. A few half-grown Caucasians had also been assigned to guard the cornfield.
Dahua, the female tiger, roamed through the expansive forest with her three cubs. The mother bear that had just come out of hibernation showed no signs of leaving either; she frequently visited the low fence looking for food.
Xu Li thought that continuing like this wasn’t a solution. He decided to convert the frequently fed low fence into a small door for coming and going. Xiong Da and Xiong Er would help familiarize the mother bear with the ranch's boundaries, teaching her where she could go and what areas to avoid.
The little bear cubs showed no interest in these activities; they snuggled in a pile of hay in the feed storage, sleeping soundly. They could only stay there for a short while; once they grew up, they would be driven away to live independently. After all, the ranch wasn’t a charity; it couldn’t just give without expecting something in return.
With two brown bears already at home, as long as they were well cared for, these two big fellows could accompany him into old age. Thus, he couldn’t take in any more brown bears. Moreover, with three tiger cubs gradually growing up and taking on patrol duties in the mountains, they were more suitable than brown bears!
After working late at the ranch, he finally returned home where Anna and Eva were sitting on the sofa playing with the tiger cubs. Dahua had become familiar with the two brown bears, so all three big animals curled up in a corner dozing off.
During dinner, Eva bit her chopsticks and occasionally glanced at her husband. Her hesitant expression prompted him to say irritably, "Stop looking at me like that! If you want to go somewhere or buy something, just decide for yourself; I can’t manage things here at the ranch right now."
That aunt called earlier hoping that the kids could spend some time in Huaxia during summer vacation.
"Hmm?"
He chewed his food while looking at Eva and then Anna before finally saying after a long pause: "Did you both agree?"
"Yeah."
Anna picked up a piece of Xun Yu for him. "Peter is insisting on bringing Lisa and Uncle Andong along. Anan and Dasha are also planning to get some advertisements domestically; that's why I agreed."
"What about Zhuo Ya? Isn’t she coming?"
She didn't like places that were too lively, so she planned to return to the village for the summer and stay there until school started.
